Validate form input - Japanese

 I've searched for several hours and haven't come up with a reference - or even many discussions - of how to go about validating Japanese names, addresses, etc. When I lived in Japan websites, atm's etc. required such info to be entered with the roman alphabet but I've seen some websites that are allowing Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana. I haven't tested many of them for validation but one that I did test (after looking at the page source and discovering no client-side validation) allowed me to put this in the name field: J*=123*go^ Neat!

Any pointers/references? Thanks

Help with form input and post

I'm trying to teach myself MVC and have been having a few problems trying to handle a form input and post scenario. I am trying to have a section at the top for searching that appears on every page (like there is on sites like amazon).

I've read websites such as: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/12/09/asp-net-mvc-framework-part-4-handling-form-edit-and-post-scenarios.aspx and tried to follow their example form post code in my Site.master file.

The problem I'm having is that it always calls the default controller action, regardless of what I put as the url in the form action (in fact, I can even remove the form tags altogether and it doesn't seem to make a difference -the text box will still call the default controller when I press enter).

In my site master file, I have tried the using the following html markup:

<form action="Home/SearchResults" method="post">
                    <input id="Search" type="text" name="searchText" />
                    <input type="submit" value="Search" />

Enabling/disabling input controls in a form

I am writing a ASP.NET UserControl and I am trying to incorporate JQuery into this.
The control is a simple form with a few input fields (text, checkbox, select, radio).
The first element in the form is a checkbox. Upon clicking this checkbox I want the all the input elements in the form (except the checkbox control itself) to be enable/disable. I tried writing some of this code but my solution was not getting me anywhere.
Below is the ASP.NET form code. I'd appreciate the help with some code or pointers into what I am doing wrong.
 <asp:Panel ID="pnlInputControls" runat="server">
    <table style="width:100%;">
            <td style="width:50%">
                <asp:CheckBox ID="chkBenefitName" runat="server" Checked="true" TextAlign="Right" ClientIDMode="AutoID" style="padding:0 0 0

Form input to output as a link on the display page (need help please)

 I have a form, the form works great and displays the information perfectly on a designated display page I have set up from its database.  One problem, I want to display it as a link to the site instead of how it is now, just plain text. Thus the user would put in the text box the site and hit submit and the site would appear of the display page.  Can anyone please assist me on this, and where to drop the hyperlink control? in the form page? or in the display page?    Below is my form code page:     <p><strong><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">International Access Entry      Form</font></strong></p><p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Please enter information      international contact information below. This if for authorized staff only.</font></p><table width="548" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="10" bgcolor="f0f0f0">  <tr>    <td width="528"><form name="INTL_Form" method="post" action="INTL-results.asp">      <p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> </f

Invalid URL error on InfoPath Form Publish on an External List

I am using SP2010 Enterprise on Windows 7 and SPD 2010 & InfoPath 2010 all on the same machine in test.  I create an External List based on a ECT and Click on the 'Design Forms in InfoPath' icon and 'Item' which drops down from it.  That launches InfoPath Designer 2010 & downloads the form from http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn and sets you up in an edit session.  I can make changes on the form but when I publish via File | Publish | External List (Publish Form To An External List) I get a save prompt for local copy & then an error: The following URL is not valid: http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn  (same URL as it started with during the initial download). I took screen shots of the messages to make sure. Some things I have tried & observations: If I change to an internal Custom List the publish step (to list not external of course) works just fine. I also ran this test launching SPD as Administrator with no difference.  I stopped the System Event Notification service per http://serena-yeoh.blogspot.com/2006/08/infopathformurlnotvalid.html  'net stop sens' with no difference Any ideas are welcome. BTW I notice that this step of launching the InfoPath designer does change the form on the list in Sharepoint albeit slightly -

BDC, external list with many-to-many Association, how to input data

Hi, I have built a BDC with VS2010 and Sharepoint Enterprise as target platform. It is basically a technical evaluation about many-to-many Associations in external content types. Its has 2 entities which are Person and Ticket and should reflect a data model where persons can work on multiple tickets and tickets can also involve multiple persons. For linking those 2 entities I have a link table which can be read via the "Navigators" and be modified via the "Associator/Disassociator". I made the model completely with the VS2010 bdcm designer and as far as I know its good. (Its a "foreign key less" association, the identifiers are UInt32.) Now my question is how do I actually use those manipulators, or at least show data and related data. With 1-to-n relations Sharepoint did render an interface for handling the relation for me, but with a keyless n-to-m relation I dont get any interface for connecting the entities at all. Then I tried to make this via Infopath, but as far as I can tell, you cant use a 2nd datasource there with external List. (And it seems to be supposed to be this way.)

Edit form List for External content type

I've made a list based on an extenal content type and create an InfoPath form just for viewing details on list items (read only)

My problem is that  the page(displayifs.aspx) displaying this form doesn't have a title (it's blank) and I don't know how to change it.

WPF: Recreating a paper form as an online application for data input/retrieval: 2 problems

As with many paper forms,

(1) I have a form with some one-character-per-box data entry fields.

How could I implement the same thing using WPF?

(2) I also have some multi-line data entry fields--some of which begin in the middle of a row, but continue at the beginning of the next row.

Any ideas as to how to set my application up so that these rows can be merged into one field?

External List Infopath Form - people picker and dropdown

I am editing external list form in InfoPath. I have two questions

1)      My requirements are to put people picker for say employee name field.

When I try to add this control it ask me to bound it to some field as there is no people field I can’t add this control. How can I achieve this?

need a way to post a form in my .aspx page to an external URL

I'm migrating an old ColdFusion site to ASP.NET. One of the pages has a form that posts to an external URL.

<form action='https://www.innlinkcrs.com/rescreate.asp' method='get'>

I just discovered that you can't do this in an .aspx page. Seems the page will just post to itself if you hit the submit button.

What's the proper technique for achieving this in ASP.NET? There are a couple of hidden fields that pass parameters to the external URL.

Using a sharepoint list to populate a form then capture user input

Hi.  New to this forum but looks like a great resource.  I am using MOSS2007, Infopath 2007 and Nintex workflow 2007.

I have a form that will act as a report for each of the operational sites in my company.  Each site receives freight movements on a daily basis and these are on a schedule; I am trying to record the variances to that schedule.  What I have attempted to do is the following:

  • Create a sharepoint list that contains each of the scheduled arrivals per site.
  • Connect to this list in Infopath as a secodary data source.
  • Drop this in to the form as a repeating table.
  • Filter the list of arrivals by using the conditional formatting control on the section, bound to a drop-list where the user specifies the facility/site.

What I am trying to do is present these arrivals and have the user enter an "actual" arrival time next to each, then store the results on submit.  I therefore need to know two things, 1) how to capture an "actual" value for each row in the repeating table (at the moment this is pulled in as an empty field from the list) and 2) how to store the data on submit so it is there when the form is re-opened.

I hope this makes sense, happy to give you any further information that may be required.

Thanks, Matt

Error creating edit form for external list - Failed to find the default form for PAGETYPE PAGE_NEWFO

For the last few days we have been unable to create custom new/edit forms for External Lists in Sharepoint Designer.  When i try to create a form Sharepoint Designer show the message 'Could not save the list changes to the server'.  The corresponding message in the ULS log file is 'Failed to find the default form for PAGETYPE PAGE_NEWFORM'.  Does this mean i have somehow managed to break the form templates for External Lists?

I saw some other posts about the 'Could not save the list changes to the server' error and followed the suggested steps including removing all versions of the list and related content type, and recreatign htem but this didn't work.

How to associate Custom Form with External List?

I've been trying for several days now to figure out how to programmatically associate a custom form with an external list.  Currently I'm creating an external content type + external list programmatically (in Visual Studio) when my feature activates.  I now want to define some custom forms for viewing/editing the list items in my external list.  I cannot figure out the right approach to make this work.  I can create and associate the custom forms with the external list in SharePoint Designer, so I know its possible, I just can't figure out how to do this in Visual Studio.

In Visual Studio I can provision an aspx file and have it deployed to my list's folder, but when I try to set that aspx file as the list's default display form it tells me the page is not a valid form.  For example...

myList.DefaultDisplayFormUrl = "Lists/LocationsList/MyDisForm.aspx";

...will fail even though that page exists at that url.  It think it fails because the list does not contain an item in its Forms collection with that url.  All my attempts to modify the list's Forms collection have failed.  It appears to be read-only.

Anyone have any ideas?

How To: hide fields on an input form

How can I hide a field in SP 2010.  I used this code in SP 2007 but can't get it to run in the new pop-up forms in SP 2010.

function findacontrol(FieldName, action) {

   var arr = document.getElementsByTagName("!");
   // get all comments
   for (var i=0;i < arr.length; i++ )
      // now match the field name
      if (arr[i].innerHTML.indexOf(FieldName) > 0) {
       if (action == "none") {
     } else {
       return arr[i];

function hideFlds() {

   var control = findacontrol("Request Status", "none");

Input parameter to a Stored Procedure External Content Types and External lists

I am displaing data in form of a External list that gets it data from an External Content Type that gets its data from a stored procedure. This works fine but what I really would like to do is to be able to send an inparameter with the user name down to the store proceder so it only return the rows marked with the users loginname.

Is this possible (out of the box)?

Using a CompareValidator to check input is a valid date

The CompareValidator can do more than just compare two controls. You can also compare it against several of the main .net data types such as Date, Integer, Double and Currency.

To do this you would set Operator="DataTypeCheck" and instead of setting the ControlToCompare or ValueToCompare attributes as you normally would you use the Type="Date" (or any of the data types I have listed above).
