Error When a Word Document is displayed in WebBrowser Control

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

We are using a WebBrowser control to display an MS Word document in a form. This was working fine for a long time, and now we tried to install this application in a new server. Now we are facing an issue. When we try to open the word document by using WebBrowserControl.Navigate method, it is asking the Open/Save dialog box, which is typically displayed when we download a file. Then if the user clicks on Open button, we are getting an error "Windows cannot find 'UsersTempFolder\1\Temp\MyDoc.DOCX'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.". Please note that UsersTempFolder\1\Temp\MyDoc.DOCX is NOT the path I have given in Navigate method. Also, if I click Save in open/save dialog box, I can save to a location and open it.

I don't have direct access to this server, but if I can believe the words of support person, every configuration is set same as our old server. Here is the details.

.NET Framework 3.0

MS Office 2003

Internet Explorer 6 SP2.

Could any one please help me to solve this issue? Any help is very much appreciated. Please let me know if you need any other details.

ASP:Upload control . Uploading into a SharePoint Document Library Subfolder and FILE NOT FOUND error

RE: ASP:Upload control . Uploading into a SharePoint Document Library Subfolder and FILE NOT FOUND error Two Issues, apparently unrelated. I have subfolders like this /ApplicantDocuments/20 and /ApplicantDocuments/21 (where 20 and 21 are my subfolders and ApplicantDocuments is my library. 1. The below function is erroring with file not found, but I confirmed I'm sending the fully qualify path (i.e c:\test.txt) to System.IO.FileStream content = System.IO.File.Open(documentFileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open); 2. Even if it worked, looking at the code, I'm not using argument foldername.  I'm passing 20 to the argument. How can I make sure it uploads into subfolder 20 of ApplicantDocuments? Thank you.     Just testing in test environment. Will tighten code once it works.   public void UploadDocumentToSite(string foldername, string documentFileName) {      SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite("https://xxxxxx");      SPWeb web = siteCollection.OpenWeb();      //SPSite.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;      //Web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;      string Lib = "ApplicantDocuments";      SPFolder destFolder = web.GetFolder(Lib);      sendmail(documentFileName+" "+foldername);

InfoPath / ActiveX error when using person selector field in Word template off SharePoint document l

I have created an out-of-the-box document library on a SharePoint 2010 site.  I left Microsoft Word Document selected as the Document Template.  I then added a person or group column and a multiple lines of text column to the document library. I then went into Library Settings --> Advanced Settings and clicked on Edit Template, opening the template in Word.  I created my template and added the two new columns to the document.  I did this using the Quick Parts --> Document Property --> [column name] feature under the Insert tab in Word.  I then saved the template back to SharePoint. Upon opening the template or creating a new document from the template, I get the following dialog box: --------------------------- Microsoft Office InfoPath --------------------------- One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. As a result, the page might not display correctly. --------------------------- OK   --------------------------- I've searched around (I believe fairly extensively) and have not run into anyone else with the same issue.  Some have mentioned a similar error when creating a custom document information panel in InfoPath, and suggested lowered ActiveX security setti

Error trying to upload word .doc document to Sharepoint 3.0 Exception occurred. (Exception from HRES

We have recently moved our shrepoint WSS 3.0 site to a new server running WSS3.0 on Server 2008 R2. Since the migration everything is as it was and working ok execpt we are now unable to upload word .doc files to the site. When we try to attach a .doc file we get :

Error - Exception occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020009 (DISP_E_EXCEPTION))

Other file types ie .pdf .ptxt etc can be uploaded ok but .doc fails. I have checked blocked file types in Central administration but .doc isn't listed.

Any ideas.

Thanks in advance

webbrowser hosting a word document

I have a form on which I have a webbrowser control,  I use the webbrowser control to display word document. I have win 7 64 bits, and IE 8 and Office 2007. I am running into issues. When I ask the web browser control to show the word document. It always shows the word document in a new window. I ran http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927009/ but it didn't work on my system,  On my system, BrowserFlags for Word.Document.12 is set to 0x80000024, but the browser still opens word document in a new window. Is it because I am on win 7?

WebBrowser control error message page handling

I have WebBrowser control on my winform. When I try navigate to some web-site I get standard IE error pages like:

  • "Navigation to the webpage was canceled"
  • "The address is not valid"
  • "Page couldn't be loaded"
  • etc.

I need to handle these errors and return custom error message to user. Is there any way to solve this issue?

I know about NavigateError event from the OLE DWebBrowserEvents2 interface. I implemented it. But when some navigation error occures I need stay at page from which user tried navigate (CanGoBack property returns false if it's first page).

Is it real? How?

Sharepoint Checked Out Word Document Cross Reference Error on Page number Only

I see the same error as RHABALA reported in an earlier thread, after I check out my Word Document from Sharepoint into Word 2010.

When I Control-click on any of my Cross References to Page Number, they fail with the warning prompt, they seem to be incorrectly pointing at the Sharepoint path. But when I Control-click an any Cross References to Paragraph Numbers,  they still work. I've added my Sharepoint Site to the trusted list in Internet Explorer, as recommended in that thread, but no difference, the error persists.

Grateful for your assistance.

Custom Control Design-Time SiteMap Provider Error

Greetings - I was referred here by MSDN forums hope this is the right place -

I have a custom control (:WebControl) that renders web.sitemap in a specific way. While it runs error free and produces the expected result, at Design-Time it complains

Error Creating Control - MyControl The provider 'AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider' specified for the defaultProvider does not exist in the providers collection.

I have discovered that the error is cause by this line of code:

string div = string.Format("<div class='{0}' id='{1}'>{2}</div>", this.CssClass, this.ID.ToString(), EnumerateNodesRecursive(SiteMap.RootNode, level));

or more specifically, by the reference to SiteMap.RootNode - I am not clear what is missing thoough because I have configured the SiteMapProvider in web.config as this:

        <add name="AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider"
             type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

"Type ASP.x is not defined" error for dynamic user control when publishing updateable

I have a user control (ContainerCtrl) which programmatically instantiates another user control (SimpleCtrl) in OnLoad. It builds and runs fine, but when I publish it I get the error "error BC30002: Type 'ASP.SimpleCtrl' is not defined." (If I publish without the "updateable" option there's no error, but I need the site to be updateable.)

I assume this has to do with the particulars of how the assembly(ies) are built for the different compiler options. My question is, how can I get it to work properly for "updateable" publishing?

VS 2008 / .NET 3.5 sp1

The code follows (web.config is the default from Visual Studio).

Many thanks, Dave

<%@ Control Language="VB" ClassName="SimpleCtrl" CodeFile="SimpleCtrl.ascx.vb" Inherits="_SimpleCtrl" %>

    Simple control

Partial Class _SimpleCtrl
    Inherits UserControl

    'Nothing to see here.

End Class

Custom Control Design view error

I have created a custom control from scratch and it works fine as in you can build the project that uses it and it works fine at runtime. Problem is when you go to design view the control shows an error in the place of where the control should be rendered.

Error: '<SomeValue>' Could not be set to '<SomeProperty>'

This shows up on all my custom set properties. These properties are created as basic as possible. I can give the properties values in Source view and run the app just fine. I can even add a Onclick event. If I don't set any custom properties the control will render fine in Design view. It's only when I set a value to a custom property.

Property Code Example:

public string Text
                string ret = "";
                object obj = ViewState["Text"];
                if (obj != null)
                    ret = obj.ToString();
                return ret;
                ViewState["Text"] = value;

I've even removed the Category and Description tags with no difference.

I don't know if what I said makes sens, but I hope it

Advanced Basics: Setting Word Document Properties the Office 2007 Way

The last time I wrote this column (March 2006), I shared an application that allows you to update all the Microsoft® Word documents in a folder and its subfolders. Each time the application finds a document in the specified path, it updates the document properties to match those you specified in the application.

Advanced Basics: Set Word Document Properties Programmatically

At the beginning of another lovely day of writing courseware in mad pursuit of unrealistic deadlines, I received a frantic call from a business partner. He was at the end of a long consulting project and had several hundred Microsoft® Word documents, all of which required their document properties to be set identically, except the Title property of the document, which was to be based on the document file name, minus the .
