Show users based on ad-security group or OU

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Will it somehow be possible to show members of a AD group ?

We have some superusers, and they all have the ad-group: super_users.

Can i show all members somehow ?

Maybe by a search flag, so it is just a link to a search result ?

Show/Hide fields on InfoPath based on context User Group Membership

I am reading a book on SharePoint 2010 Development by Wrox and although it is a good book, the InfoPath section is limited. I am Googling to see if I can find anywhere where i can perhaps have this type of functionality to hide and show a specific field based on their Group Membership?

Intranet Users Challenged When Using Windows Integrated Security

We've setup an intranet site using Windows Integrated Security. Its up and running and users can access it. However, they are being challenged with a login dialog for the server when they initially access the site.

Isn't is possible to configure the server so that the users aren't challenged AND are recognized as being already authenticated by Windows? We're trying to go with a seamless experience, whereby all they have to do is login to their machine like normal and then go from there.

Attack Surface: Mitigate Security Risks by Minimizing the Code You Expose to Untrusted Users

In this article, Microsoft security expert Michael Howard discusses the cardinal rules of attack surface reduction. His rules - reduce the amount of code executing by default, reduce the volume of code that is accessible to untrusted users by default, and limit the damage if the code is exploited - are explained along with the techniques to apply the rules to your code.

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Authorize It: Use Role-Based Security in Your Middle Tier .NET Apps with Authorization Manager

Authorization Manager in Windows Server 2003 represents a significant improvement in the administration of role-based security, making it more scalable, flexible, and easier to implement. Using Authorization Manager, you can define roles and the tasks those roles can perform. You can nest roles to inherit characteristics from other roles, and you can define application groups. In addition, Authorization Manager lets you use scripts to modify permissions dynamically, and it allows you to wrap your security logic in a security policy that can be stored in Active Directory. Authorization Manager also includes an easy-to-use API for running access checks. The author discusses all of these topics and demonstrates them with a working sample.

Security: Unify the Role-Based Security Models for Enterprise and Application Domains with .NET

Role-based security allows administrators to assign access permissions to users based on the roles they play rather than on their individual identities. These privileges can be used to control access to objects and methods, and are easier to identify and maintain than user-based security. The .NET Framework provides two role-based security models, which are exposed as two namespaces: System.Enterprise-Services and System.Security.Permissions. Presented here is a comparison of the two options and a discussion of when each is the right choice. The author also demonstrates the process involved in setting up access security and discusses role memberships.

Want to create Page URL rewrite based on Users GUID and Display name?

I am using the asp.net membership.

On my site I have a Profile.aspx page.

In the code behind of this page,  i get the logged in UserId (Guid) and pass

this to a method in my DAL. GetUserByUserId()

In my database I have a Table called Member which the method gets the data from

and displays details on the page about  the user.

What I want to happen is when they have logged in and are diverted to Profile.aspx,

the page URL shows www.MyWebSite/Profile/UsersName

for example

is this possible. In my Member table I have FirstName and LastName columns or do I get the

name from the membership table.

even better would be they go straight to www.MyWebsite/JohnSmith.aspx

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

Can't find AD security group while creating Audience rule

Hi guys,

I'm trying to create audience rule : all members of AD group. But when I try to choose a security group I need I can't find in search window. Though I see another groups. So in a whole the problem is I can't see all the AD groups but only some of them. It doesn't depends on on its type (global or local domain).

What could be a reason?

Need help with web.config security - Can't figure out where the security group is located in the ap

   We have sepeartate folder called Managers in one of our web apps. And there was a security build around that folder in a web config file as below

<?xml version="1.0"?>
        <allow roles="AllManagers"/>
        <deny users="*"/>

I couldn't figure out where this group located in the application. Usually all our groups are defined in Active directory but except this group. I am not sure if this is defined on the web server or some where in the app itself. Because in the process of figuring out I have changed it to <allow users="*"/> just to make sure if this is the group we are looking for and YES It is and I have access to it. So I need to find out where this is located and add myself as one of the users to this group.

Can any one help me with this mystery.

Thanks in advance,

Customized list views and permissions to specific group users

Hi, I have created a custom list with 20 field/columns in wss3.0. I had four user groups(group1, group2,....3.....4) in my site collection with various levels of permissions. I have created four custom views (Group 1 view, Group2 view,...etc)in my list. Each view contains only certain fields out of 20. For example group 1 view contains field 1, 5, 7,10 and 13 of every item in my list.  My requirement is that when a user login, who is a member of group1. he should be able to view only Group1 view fields. He should not able to view other field/columns. I tried creating another field/column called as restricted users and wrote group names in that. In the View edit page I selected " show item when the column 'restricted users' is equl to [Me]. But I did not get it. Kindly help it out any one either programmatically or UI based. Thanks

Getting filtered data from Role based SSAS security

Hi everyone,I've got a heap of reports that are based on various SSAS cubes. I have roles defined on these cubes that restrict data via certain dimensions. Question is, will these restrictions filter through to the report...ie, if I have a sales person restricted in the SSAS cube to only see sales against their territory (restricted in the Territory dimension), when they run the report will it filter the result based on their SSAS credentials and only show the data they have access to (even though the SSRS report has no direct filters or parameters applied)?Cheers for any help!!
