List Web Part Issues in Site Template

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I have about 10 list web parts each list with a custom content type and custom columns and a default view set. I am displaying these web parts on the site's default page. Everything looks great. WHEN I save the site as a template and create a NEW site from the template, the list web parts do not automatically grab the default views from the libraries, instead they just pull in the default Title column and thats it. I have to manually modify each web part to grab the default view. Is there a way around this? I don't understand why it cannot grab the default view automatically.

Provision Shared Documents List View Web Part in Site Template

I'm trying to add the Shared Documents "web part" that is part of the default Team Site template to a custom site template.  However, from what I've found this is not really a web part for Shared Documents, but a generic List View web part with Shared as the data source.  Also, I don't see where this is listed in the onet.xml file of the Team Site template (which I believe is the "sts" template, correct?).  Also, you cannot export/download the xml for this webpart from the page and when it is viewed via SP Designer, the way it is defined is not supported in an onet.xml file.

So how do you add this webpart to a site template?

Using a List View web part to display documents from multiple document libraries from different site

Hi there, I am trying to have one web part display documents (or list items) from different document libraries (or different lists) from different site collections. I have achieved this under a single site collection using Data View Web Part (using SPD). I have also achieved displaying a single document library (or a list) from a different site collection by using List View Web Part. but I am not sure how to get my head around displaying documents or list items from different document libraries or lists across site collections. I have thought of using SPSiteDataQuery or ListViewByQuery, but they all seem to focus one site collection at a time. If any of you have done this before, please share your best practice on this one with me. Much appreciated. Clark

The Group Work Site template has the "What's New" web part on it's home page and I have the follow

I can't find that web part as something I can use elsewhere? As in, I can't add that web part on other pages made even on the same site. What would be ideal is to have that web part available to add as needed to other sites/pages of course. As it stands, for me it seems the only place I can use that web part is on the home page of a new "Group Work Site", i hope that I'm wrong. I've tried exporting the web part, but the importing does nothing when trying to import it to other sites, of course other 2010 sites. Please let me know how I may add that web part to my available to use web parts please.

Creating a Site Column that Looks up an External List causes error when saving site as a template.

I'm not sure what the best practice is here, but I'm having a major issue trying to save sites as templates and I think I narrowed it down as to what the issue is.

When I try to save a site as a template, it creates the solution package, but it doesn't activate it.  When I try to activate it manually, I get the following error:

Feature definition with Id e9431ed5-27b1-4c33-9eeb-81b4ace9d372 failed validation, file 'test1ListInstances\ElementsFields.xml', line 481, character 231: The 'SystemInstance' attribute is not allowed.

I opened up the solution package and looked at the ElementsFields.xml file.  I traced the line to this:

<Field Type="BusinessData" DisplayName="Acme People Name" Required="FALSE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Group="Custom Columns" ID="{55b3bbba-a7e3-4698-9946-648a6b726e9e}" SourceID="{026904fd-f2d0-4e57-a239-c6da838458fa}" StaticName="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" Name="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" SystemInstance="ACME" EntityNamespace="http://????????:28241" EntityName="People" BdcField="FullName" Profile="" HasActions="True" SecondaryFieldBdcNames="0" RelatedF

Remove Deleted Template from "New Site" template list

A site template was deleted from the solutions gallery and deleted out of the recycling bin before it was deactivated.

How can I deactivate it now so that it doesn't show up as a template to choose when creating a new site?

SharePoint Web Part to View List in Different SharePoint Site

I am working on SharePoint 2010 instance. I want to be able to view list content in the SharePoint site that this list doesn't belong to. My site does not even share the same site collection as the one containing the list. Is this possible without the custom SharePoint solution coding? Thanks.

save as list template and save as site template problem

Please provide me information for how  to fix this problem.

When to occur this problem in share point.

When  i create save as list template and save as site templates its showing the following error below:
Unknown compression type in a cabinet folder   at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass.SaveWebAsTemplate(String bstrUrl, String bstrTemplateName, String bstrTemplateTitle, String bstrDescription, Boolean bSaveData)

Custom document library list template issues with custom content type

Either I don't know what SharePoint is doing or I don't know what I'm doing (or both, which is more likely).

I'm attempting to create a Custom Document Library template with a custom content type association (Custom Document), all using a feature. When I create
a document library based on the installed template, the content type association is there. However, when I click on New Custom Document, the template.dotx does not reflect the Custom Document content type association. The Word document information panel does not show any Custom Document content type properties (like Title and Comments).

Here are the steps I've taken:

1. Create the feature.xml with element manifests of contentType.xml and CustomDocumentLibrary.xml
2. Create the contentType.xml (Custom Document) with an additional field reference for Comments
3. Create the CustomDocumentLibrary.xml for the list template
4. Create a Custom Document Library subfolder that contains the same files that are in the 12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\DocumentLibrary\doclib folder.
5. Edit the schema.xml to use the new content type and field reference
6. Deploy and activate the feature
7. Create a new "Custom Document Library"
8. Go to Custom Document Library Settings and verify the Custom Document content type is being used
9. Click on New Custom D

Using List templates - saved template has no site definition id or feature id - does not appear in S

I have a Record Centre site in SharePoint Server 2010 and have created a number of record libraries. Due to a reorganisation, I need to split my main record library up into about 20 separate libraries, so decided to use the list template as a means to create the new libraries with the same content types, views and workflows.

Used one of my libraries with no content and did Library Settings - Save document library as template and gave a name. Seemed to save OK to the List template gallery.

When I go to Site Actions - More Options the new template does not appear

Have done a fair bit of searching and I think the problem is that the .stp does not seem to have any site definition id and no means to add one.

Have enabled the SharePoint Server Publishing feature at the site level, as suggested by another post, but still has not resolved the problem.

Would value any ideas or insight. Thanks

Issues with views created on a list in a WSS 2.0 Site

There is a custom list with about 30 columns on one of our WSS 2.0 Sharepoint sites. Site owner created about 6 views on this particular list. When we are trying to open one of the views it never loads. The status bar on the bottom just continously says loading but never does. On another view of the same list the view opens, however we are unable to edit the items...the dropdown edit item menu doesnt show up. Both these issues happen only to some users in their team and not all of them....It does happen to me as well inspite of logging in with farm admin rights.  The list however has large number of items (close to 100 or more) and is very frequently used pretty much everyday by their team.

Could this be a browser issue ? All our machines have IE7. Not really sure how to troubleshoot it when it is randomly occurring with some and not with all.

Thank you !

Status List WebPart or KPIListWebPart missing when create sites based in a site template that has it

Hi Everyone,

I have a site collection in SharePoint server 2010, and within this site collection I have a site. This site has KPIListWebPart or Status List WebPart. I have added this WebPart through SPD 2010, because through SharePoint you cannot add this particular WebPart.

The problem is the following:

The site (with the Status List WebPart) has to be a Site Template, in order to allow the users to create sites as needed. In the site, the Status List WebPart works perfectly, but when I create a new site based in the site template, the Status List WebPart is missing.

Any idea why is it happening?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 1 of 2

In this first part of the two part series, Steven covers the differences between Site and Application pages in SharePoint 2007, why each may be used in various circumstances, and prepares for the construction of a menu located application page. After a brief introduction he examines the concept of Site Pages and Application Pages separately in detail with supported screenshots.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 2 of 2

As the second article in a two part series, Steven examines the attributes and details of a SharePoint 2007 application page, including the construction and feature deployment of the same page based project. Since this is a WSS level objective, as opposed to MOSS, you will not need MOSS to work with the code included in this project. Windows Server 2003, WSS, and Visual Studio 2005 are all that is needed, with no additional add-ons. He provides a detailed analysis of each step involved in the creation and deployment of the project.

workflows when saving site as template with content

I have have a MOSS 2007 site on a production server with custom workflows.  I saved the site as a template with content and used the template to create a sibling site.  I am testing it and the workflows aren't working.  Is this to be expected? I have read that workflow don't work when saving between development and production, but I can't find anything that addresses both sites being on production. Will I need to recreate the custom workflows by hand?

Is there a way to update the template of a site?

I am looking for a best practice for managing and applying site design changes.

For instance, in another platform, I could release a site for testing or production use, so content would be added.  At some later date, a change* to the design would be needed and I would take a copy of the design only, make the change and then apply the updated design to the existing site. Content would be maintained but the new design changes would be applied.

*A change might mean creating new functionality on an existing element, adding new elements or changing an existing element.

How best should this be done in WSS?

Thank you in advance!
