Best design option for multiple parent / multiple child list?

I made 2 lists.  "User Groups" and "Resource Groups".  In User Groups, I setup a column to do a multi-select lookup to the Resource Groups lists title column.  Obviously as this gets built, groupings will form in the other direction as well... Is there a way to programatically do that, so I don't have to complete a multi-select colum in the Resource Groups list that does a lookup to the User Groups list to get info I logically already have.

I tried to do it with a workflow, but was only able to update 1 item so the multi-select concept was pointless. 

I want to have the multi-select information displayed regardless of which list your looking in.  If you look in a User Groups list item, you can see all the resources the users have access to... if you look at a Resource Group list item, you can see what User Groups have access to it (linked by multi-select lookup), and i'd like to only have to populate the lookup in 1 direction and build the reverse relationships on automatically.

Hope that makes sense.  You'd think you could auto import this info but I can't get Domain Local groups to show up, seems to be a limitation of the WSDL for connecting to AD (forget the correct term for that piece), so I'll add them manually..

Custom List Row association to multiple documents - Design choices?

I want to associate custom list entries to muliple documents. Thinking about options.   1 row will have many docs, but one doc will only have one row. Possible? Trying to keep it simple with minimal development. I was thinking I could have a unique column or the id column in the list act like a key (somehow).. and  add a required column to the document list requiring it to tie back to the list entry.  Then a view could drive listing all the docs for a particular row from a link in the list built in a custom dataview. All the docs could be in the same library. Is the the best approach? Ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Multiple Parent Child Hierarchies in SSAS 2008 R2


I'm trying to create a dimension containing financial accounts in SSAS 2008 R2 where individual accounts can belong to one or more hierarchies.  I also need to be able to specify a unary operator since a leaf level account may be subtracted from one parent but additive to another parent.  For example revenues and expenses may be grouped one way for statutory reporting and a completly different way for management reporting and further belong to some arbitraty groupings that users find necessary.

I can't seem to find a way to have a leaf level member in a dimension more than one time in a Parent child hierarchy, and I can't seem to find any way to include the unary operator in a hierarchy where I use attributes to define the hierarchy.

Are there any work arounds that anyone knows about?  What I found from the help file was that multiple parent child hierarchies which supported in SSAS 2000 are not supported in 2008.  However there is no suggestion for what to do.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to generate this format of xml and having difficulties because of the properties section. I can have unlimited number of properties and "For XML" tells me it can't generate the same node "Properties/@Name". I have tried several methods online, but can't seem to get it to work. Data Binding a DataGrid to a list fetch the same data multiple times

Hi, I'm using DataGrid to show data through data binding. My data are provided in a list. The setup I have is the following: DataGrid "binded" to the default view of my list that implement IList<T> and IList interfaces (MyList<T> : IList<T>, IList, INotifyCollectionChanged)             CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(_myList);             // Set the data context             DataContext = view; T: is here my 'business object' that hold the data, called 'MyRow'. Then the columns of the DataGrid are bound to public properties of 'MyRow' object. MyRow class has a public property of type 'object' (public object data[int index]) and first column of datagrid is bound to myRow.data[0], second column is bound to myRow.data[1] and so on.   When the datagrid is displayed, databinding kick in and my data are showed in the control. The issue I'm having is that data fetching is very repetitive even for the same rows. For example for a datagrid with 20 visible rows, the first row is fetched multiple times even if the datagrid is not resized or moved. I put break point inside my list (MyList<T> into This[T] property (public T this[int index]) and i got multiple hits into the property for the same index. Fetc

Need to link multiple External Content List items to a single document metadata column

I have an external content list - for my purposes, the data isn't any fancier than a list of terms provided by a web service (read only - I don't need update/delete functionality). I want to be able to link any subset of those terms to a single document metadata column (in other words, I need it to work like a normal content list that is defined to allow multiple values in a column) but SharePoint doesn't let me do that on an ECL. I need the content list to be externally driven since more values are going to be added to an outside system over time, but I think it's possible that I may not need a full-fledged ECL list to make this work this way in SharePoint. Just to clarify: I don't need the metadata values in my documents to maintain a PERSISTENT link to the web service (if someone changes an underlying value in the web service DB, it doesn't need to be updated in the document table too). I just want SharePoint to offer up an updated set of source values from the web service if somebody goes in and edits the document metadata. Any ideas for how I can make this work?

Multiple selection in connected list view webpart

Hi all, I have a webpart page with 2 listview webparts connected via  ("Send Row of Data"/"Get filter values from"). This connection permits me to select one row on the first listview (parent) and the second (child) gets filtered by the defined filter column. My question is how can I choose multiple rows on the parent so I can filter the rows of the child with multiple filter values? It seems on can only select one row via the "Select" column... Is there a workaround... Many thanks,  

Cancel multiple WFs at once & global list find & replace

We have a number of products in our company, and a need for an email alert for various reasons for each product. Thus, I have a SP list where each list item has a drop-dead date, plus the manager's name and manager's email address as well as a note as to what needs to be done. When a new item is created, or a list item is changed, a workflow is initiated. Remember, each single product associated with a manager can have dozens of these email alert list items with differing drop-dead dates. The workflow is designed to send alerts out at stated intervals before the drop-dead date. The problem is that the manager in charge of a given product can and does change. What I have to do now is to open each of the items that pertain to that manager, stop the existing workflow, change the manager's name and email address in the item, then save it (thus starting a new workflow). This can get tedious when a single product can have several dozen list items corresponding to several dozen drop-dead dates. I would like to be able to filter the list, kill all the workflows that are connected to each item in the filtered list, change the manager name and email using the Datasheet facility, then save. At that point, X new workflows would start where X is the number of list items in the filtered list. 1. Is that possible (I doubt it) in our native SP 2007? 2. Does anyone

Using a List View web part to display documents from multiple document libraries from different site

Hi there, I am trying to have one web part display documents (or list items) from different document libraries (or different lists) from different site collections. I have achieved this under a single site collection using Data View Web Part (using SPD). I have also achieved displaying a single document library (or a list) from a different site collection by using List View Web Part. but I am not sure how to get my head around displaying documents or list items from different document libraries or lists across site collections. I have thought of using SPSiteDataQuery or ListViewByQuery, but they all seem to focus one site collection at a time. If any of you have done this before, please share your best practice on this one with me. Much appreciated. Clark

list column getting created multiple times.



I am trying to add a list column to a document library. When I am running the application multiple times, the list column is also getting created multiple times. If the list column exist, i dont want to recreate the column, but only assign the value to that list column.

This is the code i have used:
