IE9, Site Specific Browsers, and adding your own Jump List Items to Pinned Tabs

Site Specific Browsers aren't a really new idea. In 2005 there was an app called Bubbles I ran for a while that would let you run a website with minimal "browser chrome." Mozilla Prism (né WebRunner) is a Firefox add-in that does a similar thing. Google Chrome includes the idea of Application Shortcuts. The idea of all this is that some web apps are really applications and you think about them as applications. For me, I think of Gmail and Facebook and Twitter and Basecamp as applications not necessarily as browser tabs. The notion of Site-Specific Browsers is definitely arriving. Internet Explorer 9 Beta (IE9) is out now and includes a featured called " Site Pinning " which is a effectively Site Specific Browsers. It's...(read more)

Adding Items to existing list using CAML

Does anyone know how to add list items (not files) to a SharePoint list using CAML?  I know how to do this in code but I was curious if it was possible in CAML. We can add files using the Module element quite easily and so I thought, why not list items?  It is possible to add list items to a new list using the Data element, but I am trying to add items to a list created earlier by another feature.

Adding windows forms controls to the display of list items

Hi,

I'm new to Sharepoint development, and was wondering if I could get some brief pointers to get me going in the right direction.  I'm required to add a button to list items that on submit does some manipulation of the data in the fields inside the item and then sends that data off to an external webservice.  The complexity is sufficient to warrant managed code, i.e. C#.

What I'd like to know is how to approach integrating this code into Sharepoint.  I've read about web parts, but viewing list items doesn't involve web part pages on my installation so I can't include my own.  What other ways are there of doing this?

Cheers all

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to use a drop down list to edit in the standard Edit.aspx with DD?

Hey All,

I'm brand new to Dynamic Data and to ASP.NET.  I've been able to fumble around and get the calendar extender up and running and a few other customization options implemented, but I can't seem to get this drop down list to work - even after reading tons of online info.  The good news is that my web page/application is VERY simple, so hopefully you guys can help me out.  I'm working in VB btw.

I have a list of road projects submitted to me by local governments.  One of the fields is SponsoringAgency, which has a limited number of possible entries (the names of member governments).  Thus, when they submit a new project, or edit an existing one, I want to limit the input into the field "SponsoringAgency." I'm trying to use a dropdownlist because I'm familiar with it from Access, but it may not be the best approach.  Imagine you just setup a brand new, standard DD website, how would you get this to work?

Methods tried and failed (probably because I don't understand them fully):

UIHint - The closest I can get with this is an error saying that since SponsoringAgency isn't a Foreign Key, I'm out of luck.

Creating a SponsoringAgency Table - In my data layer, I created a second table with a list of government names.  I then tried se

FormView Text Field Being Set by A Drop Down List

Hello, I have a FormView which is used to insert a record into a database.  Outside of this formview i have a drop down list, I want to grab the value from that drop down list and set one of the text fields within the formview to it's currently selected value.  I've tried the following code, but the dynamic categorytextbox line is what seems to not be working.

                    <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategory" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSourceCategory" DataTextField="CategoryName"
DataValueField="CategoryID" Width="200px">

Text='<%# Bind("CategoryID") %>' Visible="False" />

        protected void FormView1_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
dynamic varCategory = ddlCategory.SelectedValue;
dynamic categoryTextBox = FormView1.FindControl("CategoryIDText

How to Customize the Add Comment 'Items on this list require content approval...' notification in

WSS 3.0:

If content approval is turned on, the Add Comment section displays a fairly ugly notification. Is there any way I can customize that section through e.g. CSS or SPDesigner?

I'd like to change at least the text, and preferably the yellow exclamation image, and also the background if possible.

Workflow field not being added to list or views when adding a workflow

This problem just started happening in my entire site collection.  Anytime I associate a workflow to any list or doc lib the Workflow column that shows the status and links to the history is not beind added to the list or any views and is nowhere to be found.   Here's exactly what I'm doing:

1.  Go the List settings -> workflow settings -> add a workflow (for this example the OOB approval workflow)

2.  After adding I go to the List, the workflow column doesn't exist.

3.  I go to "modify view", and the workflow column is not listed in the available columns.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
