Opening file causes strange message

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

when I save the file that is returned by Handler and try to open it I get the following message:"The file you trying to open, 'Users.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupt and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"

How to fix this?

Here the code of the handler:

using System.Web;
using System.Web.Services;
using System.IO;
using System.Data;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Text;

namespace WebApplication1
    public class Handler2 : IHttpHandler
        public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
            string query = "SELECT FirstName, LastName, Email, Phone FROM tblUser WHERE IsSubscribed = 1";
            // As QueryDataSql = New QueryDataSql(query)

            DataTable dt = new DataTable();
            GridView gv = new GridView();

            DataRow dr = dt.NewRow();

WSS2.0 opening pdf documents an error message appears: The document could not be saved. The file may

Hi All,. In a WSS2.0 document library, a user is trying to open pdf files. However, an error message is displayed: 'The document could not be saved. The file may be read only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder'. No one else has the file open. When the user saves the file using Save As (as it is apparently Read Only) and then saves the file back to the SharePoint site, all previous versions of the file disappear. The user has noted that this has been happening since today, and she had some other network issues that have been resolved. No other users are experiencing this problem.  Not sure if this problem is related to the network problems the user was facing. I've had the user reboot but this has not resolved it. Any ideas?

Data binding - strange error message

Hi, I am getting an inexplicable error message on attempting to run a simple WPF data binding application based on an example with video downloaded from MSDN. VB / VS 2008 Pro / .NET 3.5 SP1 / XP SP3 The error (ex.Message) is "The specified registry key does not exist" in response to an attempt to define the data context to populate a listbox, but no explicit registry operation is involved at all. The code is: Private taTable1 As New D1DataSetTableAdapters.Table1TableAdapter Private D1Data As New D1DataSet . . . Try     Me.taTable1.Fill(Me.D1Data.Table1)     Me.DataContext = Me.D1Data.Table1        ' this statement generates the exception Catch ex As Exception The error message is giving no obvious clue.  What is going on? P.S. The MSDN sample application uses the following code to sort the listbox items: Me.DataContext = From p In Me.dsProduct.Product Order By p.Name This construct does not work when I try to use it - VS 2008 reports that "'Name' is not a member of 'System.Data.DataRow'".  How may this error be avoided? Opening a PowerPoint presentation fails with error "invalid path or file name".

When you go to a Document Library and try to open the presentation, PowerPoint opens, but then you get the error "The path or file name for "file URL" is invalid.  Please check that the path and file name are correct."I installed MOSS/WSS SP2 about 2 weeks ago, this happened once or twice before then, but I now know of about a half-dozen presentations that won't open.There is a way to get the file to open, if you hit the drop-down next to the file and select Send To and Download a Copy, you can save or open it from there.If you try browsing to if from within PowerPoint, it won't open either, and will also not open in Explorer View.  We have replaced the file, saved as a different name, etc. with no luck.Using both IE 7 and IE 8 and both XP Pro and Vista Business workstations.Any ideas out there?Thanks,Rusty

Opening a MS Word File and setting the save location

I have an ASP intranet site which opens word documents from a shared network drive (link is stored in a DB).  When the user then goes to save the document, it points the user to their default location - say C:\myprofile\my documents.  How can i get it so that the user can just click on save and it saves it in the location it got the file from?  I am using the following code to grab the document:

Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" & docfilename)
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-word"

If i navigate through the network share manually through windows, open the document and click save - it will save it to the right location.

Opening vs2008 solution file in vs2010 - Framework targeting issue

Hey guys,

I am opening a vs2008 .sln file inside vs2010 - the conversion wizard shows up, and it goes through with no errors other than a pop up warning me that this solution needs .Net Framework 3.5 and that it is "not installed on this machine" - I chose to target it to .Net Framework 4.0 and to try to switch it later as an option.

I then bring up Properties - >Application -> Target Framework and in the dropdown, .Net Framework 3.5 is not listed - which is strange since in "Add or Remove Programs" I can see .Net Framework 3.5 is installed on my machine.

How can I get Framework 3.5 to show up in the dropdown so I can target this project to that framework?

Can't say I've ever done this, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Update: I tried Method #1 here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robvi/archive/2004/02/17/75272.aspx) and I cannot see v3.5 - so where did it go? I'm confused why it is not in my registry but shows up in "Add or Remove Programs" list...

Error opening an excel file

I'm getting this error while trying to open an excel file from my application. I tried this http://blog.crowe.co.nz/archive/2006/03/02/589.aspx but it didn't help. Excel itself opens normally, but it does not from my application. here is a screenshot of my code:
        case "xls":
          System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = System.Globalization.CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("ru-RU");
          Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorkbookClass wb = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorkbookClass();
          wb.Application.Visible = true;
          wb.Application.Workbooks.Open(fileName.ToString(), updateLinks, readOnly,
            missing, missing, missing, missing, missing,
