I am very interested in learing ASP.NET However all the tutorials I find use either V WD 2008 or 2005. I have VWD 2010 Express on my WIN7 Pro 64 bit machine. I am currently working through a C# for absolute beginners using VWD 2010 Express with LEARN.NET website. I tried to follow tutorials using 2010 with tutorials teaching with 2008 and 2005 but it is harder to follow for me. as far as ASP.NET is concerned what is my best option? Should I install VWD 2008 on my machine as well? Will that not complicate things?
I realize as a newcomers to the .NET FRAMEWORK that I am most likely makinga mountain out of a mole hill. That is why I am seeking some guidance from the get go rather than getting up to my derriere in alligators berfore requesting assistance.
Thanks in Advance,
MIKE E
Hi,
I am using c# in VS 2010 Express. I have a MDF database that I connect to through "Database Explorer". Database Explorer will not let me SAVE columns that I have modified. As I know in SQL Server 2008 full edition you can change the setting "Prevent saving changes that require table recreation" in Management Console to prevent this. I haven't got Management Console and can't see it in install.
How do I change this setting if I haven't got management console? Is it in Registry or Config File.
Thanks.
John.
A few months ago I upgraded to VS2010 - at the same time I thought it would be good to upgrade to SQL Express 2008 R2.
It turned out that there was some compatibility issues between the two - "...cannot be opened because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported." After much trouble I restored the database and have done most of the stuff I need through VS itself.
Now I need to use SQL itself and am positively scared to death of what it could do to my database again. Can anyone offer any advice - it is a service pack update or something...?
Thanks
John
Setting up a new install who will be using SharePoint Foundation 2010 in Standalone mode. They do not have SQL SERVER 2008 so need to utilize the Standalone option and the latest version of SQL Server 2008 Express R2. They are just getting started with SharePoint and it is unknown how much the technology will be embraced to afford to purchase SQL Server at this point. I wanted to get that explanation out of the way before everyone tells me the best practice of installing in Farm mode only! I realize the best practice but sometimes we have to roll with the punches because getting a client to begin using SharePoint on their current budget is better than never getting the chance to use it at all.
So SharePoint Foundation 2010 is installed with the default SQL Server 2008 R2 Express instance. Is there a procedure for moving the databases to a new drive? What is the default instance name that is created? I'm having a hard time locating that information in the documentation. I've done this before with WSS 3.0 without issue but wondered if there were any documents on moving the newest databases and what the default instance name is. Thank you in advance.

Hi I recently found out that you can only do full text indexing with the advanced series of SQL Express and I managed to download and install it on my machine.
My question is how do I integrate it with Visual studios 2010 so that I can do the full text indexing ?
When I installed SQL Express with advanced series 2008, it created an instance of SQL Server management studio so im wondering if I have to do it there and then move the database into my project or if I can do the full text indexing from inside my project
Anyone's help would be much appreciated
We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.
At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum.
Has anybody had similar experiences? If so, how was it solved?
Cheers,
D
Hallo,
is possible use reporting services in Sharepoint Foundation 2010 if I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services? I tried various settings and configurations, but it not works (I am not able successfully configure Reporting Services Integration in Central Administration).
Now I am not sure that is possible use reporting services in SPF 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services...
Thank you!
Currently, our Sharepoint Foundation 2010 's is installed in same server with SQL 2008 R2 express hosting the databases. We would like to move all the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 database to a new SQL 2008 R2 Standard Server. Can it be done?
In this technet document, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx, it stated "The new database server must be running the same version of Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server as the existing database server." Does it mean that I cannot move the database to SQL 2008 R2 Standard Server?
I have installed SQL CE 4.0 CTP1 to overcome the identity column problem in 3.5, when programming with Entity Framework. I have successfully upgraded my SQL CE 3.5 database to 4.0. But I didn't see the 4.0 data provider in model building wizard/data source adding wizard.
Am I required to install/configure other than installing SQL CE 4.0.
Please help me.
Regards,
Rancho
Is there a spell checker add in that can be used with VS2010 express? I have downloaded a add-in for 2008 that "claims" to work with 2010 but when I installed it on my machine it does not show up in the tools menu and I cannot find the exe to add it via the external tools interface. Is there a add-in for VS2010 paid or free?
Thanks,
is it possible to convert whole visual studio 2008 web site project to visual studio 2010 web site project
my current project references
i have a very annoying iis problem
iis server stops working until app pool is recycled
i am hoping that new visual studio (net framework 4.0) may solve this very annoying unsolveable problem
I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.
I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.
How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it? I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.
Any ideas?
I downloaded report viewer 2010 from here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=a941c6b2-64dd-4d03-9ca7-4017a0d164fd
Now I want to actually use it in a website. How do I do that? Do I have to modify some part of web.config? Specifically, what do I need to change?
Good evening,
just a quick question, are there a lot of developers using the express edition to make web sites, or is it limited to what you can do, and I would be better getting the full edition visual studio 2010. I have been using dreamweaver, but I wanted to try my hand at asp.net, thx for any info you can offer.
I'm trying to embed a flv in my web page and I don't have a clue how to do it.
I downloded and installed ASPNetFlashVideo and the tools do not appear in my toolbox.
So if anyone has a work around it would be greatly appreciated.
