Setting CssClass on every node in TreeView element

I would like to set a class for every node that exists on my treeview, so I can change its appearance through CSS only. The TreeNode element is rendered as a table with <td> and <tr> tags. Basically I would like to add "class" attribute to those tags.

So far I wasn't able to do that, because I couldn't find a suitable property on the treenode element. There IS a CssClass property on the whole treeview but that doesn't help me at all. Also I noticed the NodeStyle and SelectedNodeStyle properties on the TreeView element, but that means that I would have to change the appearance programatically, not with CSS.

Anyone got any ideas?

UpdatePanel is not a known element - message when upgrading to 1.0 ajax

It worked on one of my old pages.  I change the web.config, renamed all the <asp.

On some aspx page it doesn't recognize the updatepanel.  It only does on one page.  If I create a new aspx page with a different name - then it works.

Should I just create a new web project ajax - then copy all my code into there?  Or is there a way to get those old pages to recognize the new ajax controls?

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"

get value from xml element

<Field Name="Users_wff_AU" Type="FIELD_TYPE_STRING" MultiValue="True">
<Value No="1">xyz</Value>

Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CurrencyProxy.CurrencyServiceSoap

I created 2 projects in my solution:

  1. Classic asp.net web service (asmx)
  2. Class library project which references service
  3. web site project which references class library project
  4. Windows app project which references service.

Both projects were created in 3.5 framework and in Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2.

I added web service reference to Class library project. When it asked for namespace I typed "CurrencyProxy". Projects build ok, but when I run web app, Class library throws an error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CurrencyProxy.CurrencyServiceSoap' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.

I believe it has something to do with app.config in Class library project. Here is part from app.config:

<binding name="CurrencyServiceSoap" closeTimeout=

Display homepage node along with child nodes

If the first Sitemap node is your homepage/default and all other nodes are supposed to be children / grandchildren of the first sitemap node in a web.sitemap, how do I set up my web.sitemap to enable me to display my cssFriendlyMenu with the homepage node along with the nodes that are 1 level down from it at the same time as in :

Home   Products   Services   About us

...or is it not possible to have the first sitemap node displayed along with the nodes that are 1 level down from it?  Do I need to have a different starting node rather than my homepage node?

'element.className' is null or not an object

I just downloaded the project, compiled it and ran it right out of the box and when I put the mouse pointer over or remove the mouse pointer from either MenuItem in the menu demo, I generate this error:

'element.className' is null or not an object

It points to this javascript method:

updateClassName: function(operation, element, name, value) {
        this[operation + 'String'](
                function() {
                    return element.className;
                function(newValue) {
                    element.className = newValue;

Total newbie question: Calling jQuery in an UpdatePanel?

Please forgive this ignorant question - I've used ASP.NET AJAX a good deal but I'm new to jQuery.  Specifically, is it possible to call or create jQuery events on the fly via an UpdatePanel?  For example, calling a jQuery modal or animating a Label (or <div> contained Literal), etc.

If anyone has any advice or could point me to some easy tutorials on mixing ASP.NET AJAX and jQuery, I'd greatly appreciate it.

[newbie] How to return a data record from a webservice (wsdl)?

vs2010, .NET 4.0

I have a webmethod which I want to return a data record (for example: name, surename, address, age, zip etc)

I wonder how to accomplish this. I think the solution is about creating an object which contains all the records serialized. And then the webmethod returns this serialized object. I'm not 100% sure how to accomplish this, if some of you good provide me with some tips, tutorial or link to an article explaining it, that would be great

Addressing a specific node with CSS Friendly Control Adapters

Hello everybody,

I like the concept of the friendly control adapters, but I'm not sure if I can use them for my purpose.
My whole menu basically consist of one image, which itself contains the images for each menu item (is that understandable?).

Each menu item then displays only a certain part of the image.
I do this by shifting the background-position.

#navigation li#home a{
background-position:0px 0px;

/* Registration */
#navigation li#registration a:link, li#registration a:visited {
background-position:-106px -34px;

#navigation li#registration a:hover, li#registration a:focus {
background-position:-106px 0px;

/* Administration */
#navigation li#administration a:link, li#administration a:visited{
background-position:-212px -34px;

#navigation li#administration a:hover, li#administration a:focus{
background-position:-212px 0px;

I would like to do the same now with CSS Friendly, but I don't see how I can address each individual menu item node.
In static HTML I can give each link an ID (i.e. #administration), but I don't see how to do this with the asp:Menu control and CSS Friendly.

Can someone help me?

Thanks a lot,

(Imperfect) Solution to TreeView Postback / Client-Side Node Selection Issue

I've seen this question posted on all corners of the web... "How do I disable "AutoPostBack" on the ASP.NET 2.0 TreeView control?!"  Unfortunately, most of the answers either don't work, miss the point (don't work right), or boil down to "You can't do it."  I happen to know that this behavior worked perfectly in the IEWebControls TreeView that Microsoft released as an add-on prior to ASP.NET 2.0, however.  So I set out to find a solution for the ASP.NET 2.0 TreeView issue.

In a nutshell, the behavior that I and others are looking for is to have a TreeView rendered in a page that allows the user to expand, contract, and select nodes within the TreeView without causing a PostBack to the server.  This implies two things: (1) the most recently-selected node should be recorded as the currently-selected node [i.e., at PostBack time, the most-recently selected node is actually represented as the SelectedNode]; and (2) the selected node should exhibit the SelectedNodeStyle as specified in the TreeView declaration.

It appears that the TreeView engineers saw only two possible outcomes from selecting a leaf node in a tree: (1) immediately posting back to the server, or (2) immediately navigating to another web page.  They apparently did not consider option (3) just allowing selection in-place on the client, while waiting for a click on so

XmlSerializer - how to define class to not generate attributes in root element?

Hi! I have simple class that I serialize to xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <MyRootElement xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" Area="East">   <Products>     <SalesProduct Taxable="true">       <Name>Sofa</Name>     </SalesProduct>     <Product>       <Name>Television</Name>     </Product>   </Products> </MyRootElement> I don`t want have in xml file attributes xmlns:xsi and xmlns:xsd. How can I define class to not have these two attributes in xml file? I tried use XmlRoot attribute but there is no control for these two attributes. They are always generated. Regards
