SQL Server 2005: Fuzzy Lookups and Groupings Provide Powerful Data Cleansing Capabilities

SQL Server 2005 offers a completely redesigned SQL Server Integration Services engine, formerly known as Data Transformation Services. It includes many new features such as built-in support for Fuzzy Lookups and Fuzzy Groupings, which help you build powerful data-cleansing solutions. This article provides an overview of fuzzy searching techniques and a dissection of the underlying fuzzy search technology implemented in SQL Server 2005.

Scripting SQL: VBScript Interfaces in SQL Server 2000 Let You Transform Data and Provide Reports to

Application service providers often must send information to clients automatically rather than on-demand. For example, a manufacturer may want to know each day how many of their products were sold by a retail chain. While SQL Server is ideal for maintaining this type of database, you have to write scripts to get the data out in a client-friendly format. Here you will see how you can use Data Transformation Services (DTS), a powerful tool in SQL Server, to automate the retrieval and formatting of data from SQL Server 2000 and make the process of pushing data to your users a lot easier.

format-number issues with the Data View Web Part in SharePoint 2010

I have a number column named @Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue in the data view web part in SharePoint Designer 2010. In the Xpath expression builder - @Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue previews "500,000" If I use the format-number in the Xpath expression builder ==> format-number(@Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue, '$#,##0.00;-$#,##0.00'), it returns NaN. Is there any reason?

Please Provide the result in my Expected Format

Issue in the Format of the Data while retrieving from Cube

Hi,

I have an MDX which returns me certain columns like "Sales Value", "Sales Units" etc. Now I need to find the average price which will be Sales Value/ Sales Units. But when I write this in MDX then sometimes I either get empty space or any gibberish value. I want to know what format type I need to select to fetch the actual value. My value would come something like, 0.00231.

The MDX that I have written is,

populating textboxes via data reader - how do I format the string??

Here is what I have tried:

txtCost.Text = string.Format("{o:c}", dr["Cost"]);

Here is the error I receive.  How can I format the data that is coming from the data reader into currency format???  Also, is there a way to format it into currency without the dollar sign?

How to Format Data inside a Bound Column of Gridview?

Hello,

I have a bound column.

<asp:BoundField DataField="WorkPreference"  HeaderText="WorkPreference"
                    HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left">
                    <HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" />
  </asp:BoundField>

dr["WorkPreference"] = sa.WorkPreference ( This is how I bind the data  to a DataRow)

The example of the data which gets bound to this column is like the following:

Communications and Marketing Officers; Environmental Assessors; Geologists and Geosciences; Geospatial/Spatial Information Officers;

What I want is that the data should be presented to the user like the following:

Communications and Marketing Officers

Environmental Assessors

Geologists and Geosciences

Geospatial/Spatial Information Officers

In short: I basicaly want to put a break where there is a colon and then bind the data to the gridview.

It looks like simple but if you can let me know. Thanks.

Can anyone provide details of or pointers to a framework for data to winforms over the internet?

I know Robin and others deploy winforms apps to client workstations using clickonce which then interact with distant databases for the usual crud stuff. I am interested in evaluating this approach but it does not seem to be a modality that is covered very well...or at least I've not found a lot of sources.

Can anyone share the details of how they handle data interactions for these kinds of applications? Or, are there frameworks out there that have been developed with the winforms - internet - server topology in mind?

There were some MS apps (one was named taskmanager or something like that) that demo'd this kind of approach, but I think they are rather stale at this point or defunct as examples. I know the approach is viable and is used for commercial apps. I would love to find an app with source code that I could study and learn from.

It may be that silverlight with ria services will ripen soon...in theory that's close to what I'm looking for. But it looks pretty raw at this point. I'm pretty new to .net dev and I'm sure I'd learn a lot from building some winforms - internet - server apps in the next year, regardless of what approach I take later.
