Error reading .config file in Windows Forms app - Access is denied

I'm attempting to read a connection string from a .config file in a Windows Forms app on a test laptop. A previous version of the application worked just fine, but now I get a configuration exception thrown - "Configuration system failed to initialize." The inner exception message says - "An error occurred loading a configuration file: Access is denied". The user I'm logged in as is in the Administrators group and there's no obvious problems with the config file. The same config file works just fine on my dev machine so it's not an issue with ordering of the XML. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.If a response to your question is helpful or answers it please mark it as such!

Access to path denied aspnet account - windows 7

I have seen this error many times in past and what all I used to do was to add aspnet account to the directory and provide it with read and write access.  But this time I am trying to run an application in Windows 7(64 bits) - I had to manually enable the IIS from windows feature in Control Panel.

But I dont see any aspnet account in 'security' tab of any of the directories (in its properties). I even ran aspnet_regiis -i in v2.0.50727 and v4.030319 directories.   How do I get aspnet user account to show up in any folder? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Designer crashes sometimes because application path becomes C:\Windows\system32

Sometimes VS crashes as it seems to execute the WPF designer in its directories or C:\Windows\system32. Sometimes it works fine as we can preview saved settings in the Designer. I have set application path as follows : ConfigFile = Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, "mixer.ser");<br/> When VS crashes I accept to debug it, the exception is : {"Access to the path 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\\Common7\\IDE\\mixer.ser' is denied."}    System.Exception {System.UnauthorizedAccessException} ... or c:\windows\system32 Any ideas on how to fix this ?   Thank you !

Access to path xxx denied when uploading a file using c#

Hi I have a file upload app written in c#. The app runs on IIS on a Windows 2003 Server OS. I want the app to upload the file onto the server (The app and the server are on the same machine). This code has been working fine for a long time running on Windows Server 2000, and Windows XP Professional. Now when I moved onto Windows Server 2003, it stopped working. I have given ASPNET account full access to the folder on the server, and it still gives this error. Is this a bug in 2003, and can anybody assist me? Thanks Shane

Remote access to SQL-Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 denied

Hello, after successful installation of SQLServer 2008 R2 and providing my account as a 'sysadmin' I failed to access the server from a management studio of a SQL-Server 2005 release installation. The TCP/IP access is enabled and the server is configured to allow access from remote connections.  The error message reads a follows: ' A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify ... (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:2)' Accessing the SQL-Server by the management studio from the local host works fine but trying to acces by command line using the '-E' parameter fails. Is there any additional configuration on the operation system level needed to open a SQL-Server 2008 instance to be selected by other members of  domain groups from the non-local host? Thank you for the answer

Access Denied creating a web application in SP Foundation 2010 installed on windows 7 with local acc

Hello,

I've installed SharePoint foundation over windows 7 with a local account using this guide: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112

When I try to create a new web application the ribbon button is disabled. Using the link located in /_admin/createsite.aspx I get an "Access Denied" error message.

I access the SP Administration with the same user used during installation. This user is local admin and member of SQL server roles "securityadmin" and "dbcreator".

Any idea about this error?

Thanks in advance

IIS 7 & W2K8 - Access to path \\remotewinXP\folder\ is denied. No error on IIS 6 & W2K3 hosting. Any

Hi,

Appreciate if someone could point to the right answer on how to overcome this error. By clicking the Button3, the ExportedFilePDF.pdf should be copied to the \\presario remote machine. So far, no security issue on the same configuration in IIS6 + W2K3.

  Protected Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
        Try
            File.Copy("C:\BackOffice\Export\ExportedFilePDF.pdf", "\\presario\FaxServer\Outbox\ExportedFilePDF.pdf", True)
        Catch ex As Exception
            Response.Write("Error copying file | " & ex.ToString)
        End Try

    End Sub

 The browser will generate this error message when the Button3 is clicked.

Error copying file | System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\presario\FaxServer\Outbox\ExportedFilePDF.pdf' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.File.InternalCopy(String sourceFileName, String destFileName, Boolean overwrite) at Test5.Button3_Click(Objec

'Access to the path is denied" when more than one app pool access IBM DB2 Driver

I am experiencing a strange situation where when one application (running in it's own app pool) uses the  IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries .net driver, any onther app pool that attempts to access the same resource gets an 'access to the path is denied' message.  If I recycle the app pool that initially 'worked' and then access using another app pool, the one that worked before does not and the one that didn't does.

this is the line of code referenced in the error:

Dim connection as iDB2Connection = new iDB2Connection(ConfigurationManager.COnnectionStrings("theConnectionStringname").ConnectionString())

it fails on this line in either app in the app pool that fails.

 Error Details:

Type : System.TypeInitializationException, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 Message : The type initializer for 'IBM.Data.DB

Using windows authentication to access SQL when using ASP.NET 4.0 via COM+

I am using SQL Server 2008 under windows authentication, front end is ASP.NET which uses COM+ to access database.

COM+ components are configured to run as domain user.

When looking through the logs (SQL Profiler), I can see the login name as the configured identity instead of windows indentity.

I have got Website running under "Intergrated Windows Authentication" and database is running locally on webserver.

Web configure contains entry for <identity impersonate="true"/>.

My connection string is

connectionString="data source=db01\test01;initial catalog=test; integrated security=SSPI;persist security info=False; Trusted_Connection=Yes"

Any ideas?

Regards

Sandeep

Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.

Migrated from Windows 2000 ASP.NET 1.1 to Windows 2003, ASP.NET 2.0 and had this error. All the forums/MSDN/Blogs says to give Read/Write Access to C:\Windows\Temp folder. Why should we give Full Access to some folder in Production server?? In windows 2000, ASP.NET 2.0 development machine, no files are created when we run crystal reports from aspx pages. Then why in Windows 2003 servers, we need to give rights to temp folder?? It is a simple code

crReportDocument.Load(Server.MapPath("Project.rpt"));

And the code is not storing anything on the disk. Then why should it store the GUID.rpt file in Temp file in Windows 2003 server?? Any alternative is there not to store anything on the disk when Crystal Reports are opened in aspx page??
