Creating path annotations from .NET code

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am to create a bunch of SSIS packages for a customer who wants to maintain these packages afterwards with Business Intelligence Development Studio. To speed up the development process, I have started generating the packages from .NET code.
When I open my generated packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, one thing is missing: Annotations on paths between data flow components.

For packages created in Business Intelligence Development Studio, output paths for components of type lookup and conditional split are (by default) annotated with "Lookup Match Output" (or "Lookup No Match Output") for lookups, and output name of the condition for conditional splits. This makes it much easier to read and understand the data flow.

I can easily annotate paths for my generated packages if I open them in Business Intelligence Development Studio and change the PathAnnotation property of all paths, but I strongly prefer to do this from my .NET code instead.

My question is: Is it possible to create a path annotation for the non-error output of a data flow component from .NET code? (I should note that error outputs of my generated components are always annotated, not that I am aware of having done anything specific to obtain this).

Creating a user friendly alias for the website path

 Hello mates,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Windows 2003 Server.

To browse to my application one has to type the path :http://serverName/applicationName

I want users to only type  applicationName on the web adress area.I believe there is something to do with alias and CNAME on DNS records that can adress this.

Any help on how to go about doing this will be highly appreciated.

Creating Event Handler in Code behind

Hi, so I have a control that is created in the code behind and generates fine but I can't figure out how to create an event handler for it.  I've found plenty of examples for it in C sharp, but none of them seem to apply to VB.  What I want to do is essentially this:

myDropDownList.SelectedIndexChanged = "Event to do here"

but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

creating a code based on the evaluation

I would like to create a simple program, like a game, but so far without any graphical interface. Only a code, supported with some numbers, so that the user will know whats going on in the background.

I was thinking of creating a racing game (like formula 1 or sometihng similar), with available data (attributes) like:

Driver: age, agility, concentration, experiance, stamina,...

Car: engine, chassis, tyres

Smart Tags: Realize the Potential of Office 2003 by Creating Smart Tags in Managed Code

While you may well be excited about the prospect of building managed smart tags, there is little information available to help you create them using .NET. In this article the author fills in the blanks. Along the way he discusses the Microsoft Office Smart Tag List XML schema, advanced managed smart tags for Office 2003 and Office XP, and deploying these features in an organization.

Creating non-text ToolTips in code

I am trying to create a non-text ToolTip in my code like this (where sp is a StackPanel):                 if (helpText != null)                 {                     ToolTip tt = new ToolTip();                     RichTextBox rtb = new RichTextBox();                     rtb.Document = new FlowDocument(new Paragraph(new Run(helpText)));                     tt.Content = rtb;                     sp.ToolTip = tt;                 } This must be calling the ToString() method of the RichTextBox, because all I get in my ToolTip is "System.Windows.Controls.RichTextBox". Can you please tell me what I am missing? Thank you!

creating sql table from code c#

Hello i want that site manager will create his own tables in the Database in 2 steps!!! the first one is to create table in the database the user can choose the name of the new table by textbox and the table get only one ID column:

SqlConnection newCon = new SqlConnection(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
            newCon.Open();
            String st = "CREATE TABLE DataBaseConn.dbo." + tableName.Text.Trim()
                + "(contactId INTEGER PRIMARY KEY IDENTITY)";
            SqlCommand newCmd = new SqlCommand(st, newCon);
            newCmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
            newCon.Close();
            newCon.Dispose();

in the next step i want the user will add/insert the columns to the table (one column each time) the user will have textbox for the column name, drop down list with few kind of data type (datetime, int, varchar) and after press button the column will add to the table. ANY IDEA?????

Creating a new site partially works, _layouts path not mapped?

Hi,

My first post here, so please point in the direction of the right forum if I've mis-posted or correct me if I've done something wrong!

I have SP2010 Foundation running on Windows 7.  All seems to work fine until I try to create a new site (I'm on the root site -> Site Actions -> New Site).  The site creates ok (I can navigate to the new subsite and, for example, trying a blog site, create posts, view posts and so on), however when I go to Site Actions -> Site Settings, I get a blank screen.  If I attempt to use the URLs of other pages I get the standard error page inviting me to set CustomErrors=Off/RemoteOnly.

Unfortunately, I can't find a web.config to set CustomErrors in (root site is already Off).  Looking in the SP2010 diagnostic log, there's a couple of non-descript errors (searching hasn't helped much alas): Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More information: 0x80070002 (request URL: Request (POST:http://artemis:80/_layouts/newsbweb.aspx) - which makes sense)

I've disabled UAC and run IE as Administrator (as per other forum suggestions, although I don't really understand why running IE as Administrator would help).  I've also tried to create the site using the ServerOM, but I get the same symptoms.

I was wondering if perhaps a path mapping in IIS hasn't happened, but I'm not sure whe

Creating Variables in "Parent" from Custom Activities in Code

Hi,
Using Workflow 4, I've created a series of custom activities (e.g. Create Email, Upload Email To Document Management System etc.) that need to pass data between each other during execution within a "parent" workflow.. I've read that the recommended method to do this is by using variables declared at the correct scope.  This is easy to do in the designer, so in a standard flow diagram or sequence I create my variables manually, then drop in my custom activities as "children" and assign variables to their InArguments/OutArguments as appropriate.

Unfortunately, this is VERY manual and I'd like to do it in code if possible.   I know that I can create an OutArgument to pass the value back to the parent workflow.. but I need to dynamically create the workflow variable to store that value in as well.. I've read in other posts about people wanting to do similar things..

e.g. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wfprerelease/thread/4958777a-77c3-448b-aac5-6933eaf726f5

..some of them have tried using the NativeActivityContext.Property (doesn't work directly between two "siblings", they have to be put in a custom container that sets the needed values on its own context p

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Creating your SharePoint Governance Plan

One of the most common questions that I get from prospects as I'm talking to them about the creation of a governance plan and process is what does it look like. In other words, there are materials available which describe what should be in a governance plan but there isn't a ton of guidance on what the process of creating a governance plan and process are.
