Assign permissions on specific list types

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Dear folks,

I am wondering if it is possible, with SharePoint 2010, to restrict the users permissions so that specific groups of users can only create lists/libraries from a specific template: currently, if a contributor clicks on the create button, he/she can create several types of libraries/lists (document library, form library, picture library, calendar, contacts, etc.); is it possible to restrict this range of choices so that I can have specific users be able to create only from specific list/library templates (e.g. a user that can create only document libraries but not pictures libraries, records libraries, etc.)?

Thanks a lot

Customized list views and permissions to specific group users

Hi, I have created a custom list with 20 field/columns in wss3.0. I had four user groups(group1, group2,....3.....4) in my site collection with various levels of permissions. I have created four custom views (Group 1 view, Group2 view,...etc)in my list. Each view contains only certain fields out of 20. For example group 1 view contains field 1, 5, 7,10 and 13 of every item in my list.  My requirement is that when a user login, who is a member of group1. he should be able to view only Group1 view fields. He should not able to view other field/columns. I tried creating another field/column called as restricted users and wrote group names in that. In the View edit page I selected " show item when the column 'restricted users' is equl to [Me]. But I did not get it. Kindly help it out any one either programmatically or UI based. Thanks

BCS : How to assign permissions on external content types so that it has the same permissions as the

Environment : sharepoint 2010 Active directory authentication guys, I been assigned a new role of administrating sharepoint and been juggling with the best way to manage permissions in BCS. here is an overview I gave certain users edit\ execute\ selectable in clients\ set permissions on the BCS MetaData catalog. These users created the external System and external content types and created lists from these content types, all nice and good. But the problem i am facing now is the BCS list is inherirting permissions from the site ( which is how i want it) but whe these users try to access the BCS List they get the error message "Accces denied by BCS", i can fix this issue by assigning Active directory users\groups Execute\ selectable in client permissions on the extenal content type in BCS but i dont want to do it becasue i cannot select the same sharepoint groups that have permission for the BCS list from here, all i can select from here is AD users and groups. In short what i want to do is assign all those sharepoint groups which has access to the BCS list( which inherits it's permissions from the site) access to the external content type and i want to do this without duplicating the same permissions on external content type and the list. What would be the best way to do it. Sounds complicated but i guess this will be a frequent configuration. thanks samee

Ready made List Types provided by SharePoint

SharePoint provides some out of the box List Types. Some of the most used ready made list types that SharePoint provides currently are listed below:

Setting permissions of a specific SharePoint workflow

We have a very simple workflow whereby an document placed in a public library (INBOX) is moved it to a private library (VERIFY) and then deleted. The workflow works correctly when someone who has access to the VERIFY library drops a record into the INBOX library.  However it does not work when the user does not have access to the VERIFY library.

I was told that I need to "set the AD group associated with a specific SharePoint workflow" but cannot find any reference to this in SPD.

How to return back to a specific page in a gridview list?

Hello,  I have a gridview with paging. So for instance, I'm on say the page number 10, and I open the form details on a specific record_id (link). After I update/submit the form, it returns to page number 10. But, if I go to another page, for instance page 5, and submit the form, it returns to page 10. I've tried some things, for instance history.back(), but it returns to the first page I went to, in this case page number 10 (or whatever the first page I go to). Hopefully this code helps to understand what I'm asking: <asp:GridView DataKeyNames="Referral ID" ID="gvList" runat="server" CellPadding="4"     ForeColor="#333333" GridLines="None" OnRowCommand="gvList_RowCommand"     OnRowDataBound="gvList_RowDataBound" OnRowDeleted="gvList_RowDeleted"     OnRowDeleting="gvList_RowDeleting" AllowPaging="True" PageSize="20"     AutoGenerateColumns="False" OnPageIndexChanging="gvList_PageIndexChanging"    OnRowCreated="OnRowCreated" AllowSorting="True" OnSorting="OnSort"> protected void gvList_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e)        {   &nb

User Alert Management for a specific list versus entire SharePoint site?

It seems that to be able to manage User Alerts, one must have Full Access to the entire SharePoint site - and then use => Site Settings > User Alerts. Ideally, I would like to be able to grant access to users to only be able to manage alerts for a specific list. Is this possible (without having to do any programming) and, if so, how? If such access is only available at the site level, I will simply create a Permission Level that allows one to only "Manage Alerts" Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dave

List View Permissions and Views for Web Parts

My fellow developers and I are going in circles a bit with our new Sharepoint 2010.  This question probably has several different answers.   I have a list of grades and comments that our Team Leaders want to create and save on Sharepoint.  When saved, the user who was graded should be able to see their own grades.  Its a pretty simple requirement and I'm 90% of the way there.   I created a list with the required fields, and two separate views.  The first view filters the list by the user's name so they see on their grades.  The second view shows all grades in a grouped order by the person who assigned the grade.  To make this second view more readable, I added some formatting with Sharepoint Designer 2010.  It looks nice.   Here's where the speed bump occurs.  I create a web parts page for each view.  The page showing only the user grades works as expected.  The other page, however, shows the list in a view that I didn't create.  No matter what view I select from the "Edit Web Part" menu, it always shows this strange view.  If I select the list, it says its current view is "Default".  The second view I created is set as default, but its not the view I see.  If I change the current view from list menu to the second view specifically, it shows up correctly. &n

Display specific table from the start vs selecting from a list.

Hello all, I'm using VS2010, EF 4.0. I want to display a list view from a specific table from the start -instead of the standard default page that list all the tables. Any ideas are welcome.

Item/Document permissions affect Library/List permissions

When I change the permissions on a item/document in a library/list the permissions are also changed on the library/list even though I stopped inheritance.  When I change the permissions on the library/list it also changes permissions on items/documents in that list even if inheritance is removed.

Help with Workflow Task List Permissions

Here's the scenario:  I have a workflow that is assigned (in parallel) to a series of people.  I've limited each person's permissions within the Workflor Task list to strictly edit by creating a custom permissions level.  So now workflow participants are able to Approve the workflow task, but cannot delete the item.  However, now, I wish to limit the tasks a user can approve to only the items that are assigned to them.    I assumed that the (Workflow Task List > List Settings > Advanced Settings >  Item Level Permissions > Edit access: Specify which items users can edit) set to 'Only their own' would do the trick, but that setting doesn't seem to impose any limitation on which task item a user can edit.    Oddly enough, when I set the (Read access:  Specify which items users can read) to 'Only their own' I loose access to every single item in the task list; even the ones that are assigned to me.  What gives?  I thought maybe SharePoint's interpretation of 'their own' possession was linked to who created the item instead of who it's assigned to, but these 2 behaviors don't seem to support that theory at all.    Is this a bug in SharePoint because I'm stumped.   Thanks! -Tracy

How can I get a user list based on a specific profile property.

Hi,I am trying to query a DB and get a list of users based on a specific boolean property stored in the aspnet_profile for that user.I am aware that it wasn't possible a few years ago (http://forums.asp.net/p/988051/1277359.aspx), but was wondering whether that had changed in recent releases, or it was still not possible without trawling through the entire list of users and testing them one by one.  (My DB may become way to big for that.)Thanks in advance for any help.Regards,Ben

Item/Document vs. Libray/List permissions

How to properly configure permissions so users can view, add, edit, and delete list items, but not w

I am trying to figure out how to properly setup security so that it can be configured at the top-level, and then inherited all the way through. Here is what I would like to do: Each user can view, add, edit, and delete list items - but, users cannot modify or delete web part pages. The only way I know how to do this is set Contribute from the top-down, and then go into each Site Pages library and set Read access. The problem is that I have 100 sites, and I was hoping there was a way I could set security at the top, and inherit downward. Rather than having to go into all 100 Site Pages library and set Read access. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.
