"Connect to Outlook" and "Open Schedule" disabled in Ribbon on instance of Project Tasks list

Hi Everyone,
I am creating a custom list template for "Project Tasks", essentially I need a customized version of the OOB Project Tasks list. I've cloned the OOB feature over to my Visual Studio 2010 solution and I am able to successfully deploy my version as expected, with everything fully functional, gantt chart and everything, except one thing. When I provision an instance of the list using the OOB list template, I am able to see everything in the Ribbon enabled. However, when I provision an instance of my custom list template (clone), I see the "Connect to Outlook" button disabled, as well as the "Open Schedule" button disabled - which allows you to open the task list with Microsoft Project (I have all Office 2010 clients installed, including Microsoft Project).

I am guessing there must be some type of setting somewhere that associates the OOB list template to those Ribbon items that I see as disabled. The only thing different between my list template and the OOB list template is the Type ID. Could this be the problem?

Where should I be looking to troubleshoot this issue?

SharePoint 2010 Central Admin--Create/Extend Web Application button on Ribbon are disabled

My Dev Environment is  SharePoint 2010 on WIN 7. I have 2 users

1) Built in Administrator- Member of FARM Administrator

2) Dinesh02\Dd – Also member of FARM Administrator

Now when I Sign-in with my account and use Manage Web Application link, on the Top Ribbon none of Button is enabled. I can not create Web APP nor Extend it.  When I select web application from list, some button are enabled but not all. Also I can see role as Contributor

This does not happen When I sign-in with Built-in\Administrator account.

"This control is currently disabled..." Most Library-->Documents ribbon actions are greyed

This started when I just needed to delete a document, I noticed most of the actions on the ribbon for Library-->Documents were greyed out.  The only thing that is not greyed is Upload document.  I have tried with multiple administrator accounts, installed office client on the server, I have tried from multiple clients and get the same thing.  Windows 7 and Office 2010 are on the clients I have tried.

Is it possible I may have missed an explicit permission that even an administrator account (domain admin + SP site collaction/farm admin) does not have?

Browse Button is disabled

I have created a BDC using Application Definition Editor. The connectivity with the Oracle database worked well when setting it up. I was also able to successfully create the BDC Column

But when I try to add a new record, the Browse Button next to Check Names is disabled. What could be the issue?

Below is the ADF XML. Hope it can help locate a clue

Posting back a disabled button

Folks, I have a control which inherits from LinkButton and I'm trying to make sure that the user cannot cause mayhem by performing multiple postbacks.  That seemed an easy enough challenge, so I have this code [snippet] on the client:

ButtonClicked: function () {
    if (this._DisableOnClick == true) {
        this.get_element().disabled = 1;
        this.get_element().style.cursor = 'wait';
    else {
        alert('Posting back');

The alert is of course only there for debugging.  If the DisableOnClick value is false, then I see the "Posting Back" alert and, when I click ok, the postback occurs - all good.

If the DisableOnClick value is true, then the "button" gets disabled and the cursor turns into an hourglass - again good.  But the postback doesn't happen - not good.  I assume that the ASP client code is trying to help by preventing the postback when it sees that the link is disabled.

So, how can I either:

  • Persuade the LinkButton to postback even though it has just been disabled; or
  • [probably better] Get my client code to execute immediately after the postback code rather than before.

Outlook Unable to connect to MySite's "Social Network"

Running into a really odd issue. I have to farms configred pretty much identically, a production farm and a dev farm. For some reason I'm able to set up a social network connection from outlook to my dev farm without any problems but I get "invalid user name or password" when I try and connect tot he production farm. There's no errors showing in the SPLogs or the event viewer. I've checked everything I can think of but knowing me I'm missing something really small.

Customize Form button now showing up on ribbon

I used SP2010 Beta for 7 months and the Customize Form button was available on the ribbon for lists. Now, I am on the RTM, and cannot figure out how to show this button. Is it a feature? Do you have to have InfoPath 2010 installed locally? (I do have this, but just wondering). Thanks in advance.

How to display the edit button etc on the ribbon irrespective of who has checked it out

Is there a way that i can get the edit button etc displayed for all users irrespective of who has checked it out? Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

I have one list with some custom fields and I want to develop a custom page. So, I created an ASPX page and added my custom webpart. This webpart has just a RichTextField, in edit mode, "linked" to one item of the list, like below: SPSite _SPSite = SPContext.Current.Site; SPWeb _SPWebProjects = _SPSite.OpenWeb("/Projects"); SPList _SPListProject = _SPWebProjects.GetList("/Projects/Lists/Project"); int _ID = Convert.ToInt32(this.Page.Request.QueryString["ID"]); RichTextField _RTF = new RichTextField(); _RTF.ID = "RTF"; _RTF.ControlMode = SPControlMode.Edit; _RTF.FieldName = "History"; _RTF.ItemContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); _RTF.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); this.Controls.Add(_RTF);   Then, I "turned on" the edit tab on the ribbon by doing the follow: protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { SPRibbon _CurrentRibbon = SPRibbon.GetCurrent(this.Page); _CurrentRibbon.TrimById("Ribbon.WebPartPage"); _CurrentRibbon.MakeTabAvailable("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.MakeContextualGroupInitiallyVisible("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.Minimized = false; _CurrentRi

"Connect to Outlook" produces peculiar results

SharePoint 2010 (Upgraded from 2007) - Office 2007 or Office 2010 on Windows 7 x64 Until last week this problem did not exist. Go to any Calendar in Sharepoint - click "Connect to Outlook." You get two security warnings and then nothing. Switch to Outlook and no messages and no calendar. Open account settings, browse through the tabs, close account settings: The moment you close the account settings window, the "Would you like to add this calendar..." dialog appear and the calendar is added. Weird. Nothing has changed administratively. Any ideas?Anthony Sheehy - MCP, MCITP

Page Layout and Text Layout Buttons Disabled on Ribbon

I am trying to create a publish site in Sharepoint 2010, and I am using the Ribbon control.  Currently, I am having trouble adding and changing content on my site, due to both the Page Layout and Text Layout buttons being disabled.  I have been trying to figure out what security or feature needs to be active to get these enabled again.  Any help would be appreciated.

Button in Ribbon.ListItem.New doesn't appear when list is added via a webpart

I have added a button to a project task list (id = 150).
Everything works fine when I directly use the list. But when I add the list via a webpart to the site page my new button is not available. It's exactly the same ribbon as in the list view but my new button is not visible. Any suggestions?

Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint 2010 still using .pst files?

The Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint Server 2007 uses a .pst file to store content that is visible in Outlook. This has caused issues in the past with a client's enterprise policy of preventing use of .pst files on desktops. This particular client has an application that periodically checks for .pst files and deletes them, which breaks the Connect to Outlook feature for them.

Does SharePoint 2010 use the same functionality to Connect to Outlook, or something different?

Hide ribbon, Hide site content/recycle button. Caledar overlay. Document publishing. Other questions

I have a 2010 farm operational and working well. I had a few questions.

(1) How to disable ribbons from appearing on the top (for anonymous sites).

(2) When I move the mouse over a tab in the top bar, how do I display a banner. It was easy enough in 2007, but I am not sure in 2010.

(3) I have disabled quick launch. But it still displays all site content and recycle bin. Is there a way to not to show those.

(4) Calendar overlay - Is this to display multiple calendars in one calendar using different colors to differentiate them. But if I had calendars in different site collections, then I guess due to the gallery boundary, I cannot calendars from multiple site collections.

(5) Document publishing - For some reason, this was easier in SPS 2007. I am not able to get it to work in 2010. Basically update a web page dynamically from a word document. Could anyone kindly provide a link. Also, would I be able to update a page in one site collection from a document from another site collection.

(6) Is it possible to move a folder/doc from one document library to another in one site collection (without webdav). Further, can I move a document library from one site collection to another.

Please advise. Sorry if I asked too many questions in the same post. I am newbie and this is my first post.

Outlook - "connect to SharePoint" and possible problem with irish names

Hi all,

I encountered a problem with the calendar page

<start problem>

Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; InfoPath.2; InfoPath.3; MS-RTC LM 8)
Timestamp: Fri, 1 Oct 2010 09:14:18 UTC

Message: Expected '}'
Line: 1075
Char: 499
Code: 0
URI: .......

</end problem>

This results in the ribbon not being displayed i.e. the user doesn't have access to settings/connect to outlook etc. the user also does not have access to "+add item" and therefore cannot add calendar entries.

this error appears when I log in with an Irish user name . you may be familiar that Irish names contain "O' " e.g. O'Brien or O'Neill

when I log in as another user name without apostrophes I don't receive this error.

A possible workaround is to "connect to outlook" in reverse. is it possible to "connect to sharepoint" from Outlook ?

I know it is possible to connect to SharePoint from the backstage in
