Updating the site columns failed

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all

When I try to publish an InfoPath form to a site content type I get this message "Updating the site columns failed".
I have not managed to find out why it does that. Any one that has had success with it, or got any smart tips? :)

Error: Updating Site Content Type Failed - InfoPath 07/SharePoint 07

I have been working with InfoPath07 and SharePoint Moss 07 for two years.  I have recieved the Updating Content Type error in the past which I got around by creating new library's. This was over a year ago and happened only a couple times.

Recently, my dept did a database migration.  About 3 weeks prior to the migration I started having troubles with publishing InfoPath.

First issue, it would take about three hours for my form to go through to the form/document library.  Sometimes they would publish, other times I would get Updating Content Type Failed.

Now that our databases have been migrated, I don't have to wait three hours to get my error.  I get my error on (1)existing forms that just needed interface updated (no changes to forms content), (2) existing forms that have no content at all, (3) and brand new forms that have never existed, with no content.

I have tried:

  • Deleting some content (fields)
  • Deleting all content
  • Deleting the entire library and starting fresh (including any content types in Central Admin or workflows associated)
  • Creating a brand new form with no content type

I have been researching and trying to figure this issue out for at least three months. I am still getting this error with every form I publish to update the forms library; howe

I am trying to create a new website project in Visual Studio 2005, the website is an IIS website (ie. http://localhost/website1) and i get the following error message;

Configuring website to ASP.NET 2.0 failed. You may need to manually configure this site for ASP.NET 2.0 in order for your site to run correctly.

then when i try to debug the project i get the following error;

Unable to start debugging on the web server. The server does not support debugging of ASP.net or ATL server applications.

I am running Windows XP professional, with .NET 2.0 installed, and IIS V5.1

How can i get a simple website to debug on my machine?

Anonymous Web Site receives "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized"

I set up a test website on my local box and was able to access sharepoint search using the querySearch web service from SP.  After I got it all working properly I transferred the code to the target website that is set up with anonymous access for all people on the fab floor.  However from this website I keep getting the 401 error.  It can't be SP because the same code worked from my local website "localhost".  Any suggestions?  we don't want to have to have the fab people log in so we can't not have the box anonymous.  I would appreciate any suggestions very much!!!

MySite user profile site creation of My Content page is created as provisioned failed (unprovisioned

I've been trying to troubleshoot our User Profile Sync and have noticed the profile pages weren't getting updated with everything.  Most content was but things like memberships and the content tabs weren't.  I also saw this error in ULS: ProfSynch: Exception attempting to enumerate site 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e for ContentDB 23a6e3ef-6d56-4bde-825e-95c6924e2f91: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ProfileSynchronizationInternalException: ProfSynch: The site with ID 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e cannot be synchronized due to an unprovisioned root web.      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.GetSynchInfoForSite(SqlDataReader dr, SynchInfo info)      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.<get_Elements>d__0.MoveNext() I checked in the MySite database under the webs table and noticed all the My Content sites for all of our users had the flag column with the number 1315 in them - (meaning unprovisioned as the error above states).  Cross checking with the User Sync Profile database under the SiteSynch table I noticed all of the sites have NULL for the value under both the LastSynch and ChangeToken columns (The User Profile Service Application - User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization  timer job takes care of populating that).&

Duplicate Fields during list creation from content types and site columns

I am trying to create a List in Sharepoint 2010 using Site Columns and Content Types. It results in creating duplicate fields in the list for the Site Columns used. Here is the details description of what I was doing.

I have created two site columns

<Field Type="Number" DisplayName="Start Coordinate" Required="TRUE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Indexed="FALSE"
Group="QMS" ID="{A3F2D108-11B5-4B49-9633-338D27227E12}"
Name="StartCoordinate" Overwrite="TRUE" />

<Field Type="Number" DisplayName="End Coordinate" Required="TRUE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Indexed="FALSE"
Group="QMS" ID="{06B927BB-C354-4A0A-AE88-9C14E55EAB27}"
Name="EndCoordinate" Overwrite="TRUE" />

Then added these to a new content type I

Upgrade to 2010 with corrupt site columns

Hope someone can help, have exhausted all googled solutions.

Recently upgraded from Moss 2007- ent to 2010 ent using database attach method, the only outstanding problem is with a custom site column type from codeplex -filtered lookup.

  1. When trying to access the site columns/ mngfields.aspx from the ui/sharepoint designer or  SharePoint manager I get the error- Field type FilteredLookup is not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete this field  -  or some variation
  2. When I try to view the site columns based on the 'filtered lookup type' using power-shell I cannot access them, zero return, yet can view all the other site columns (using names from the 2007 box)

So if the columns are not there where is the reference that is causing the problem and how to fix?.

Have been thru every site and list and deleted the offending columns, but surely this does not have any effect on the site columns mngmt page?

I don't want to remove the type from the 2007 server as this is our working model

MMS & Tags & Site Columns oh my hee hee ha ha ho ho

Feel like I'm missing something big and obvious.

Is it possible (and, advisable) to create a Site Column that is linked to Managed Metadata and then to have that automatically always be a column on all content?

I've been through creating it, and adding it to e.g. a list via Add from Existing Site Column, but that would require that everyone who uses a list remember and then take the time to actually add it.

Can't one make it an automagic field, like Created, Modified By, etc?

Add a field to site columns using Client Object Model

I am having an issue when trying to add a field to the web.AvailableFields.  I am using web.AvailableFields.AddFieldAsXml(...)  but it seem that you need to associate the field with a list.  Is it not possible to add a field to the site collection columns using the client object model?

What I am doing is creating a content type and then adding fields to this content type, if the fields dont exist I what to create them but an having a problem doing so.

Applications-Projects site reports RunDataMacro action failed for macro 'Users.VerifyUsers'.

We are trying to evaluate the applicability of the Applications-> Projects site collection for internal use in our company.  I am able to successfully create the Site Collection.  However when I navigate to the home page I get the following error

RunDataMacro action failed for macro 'Users.VerifyUsers'.

On viewing the EventLog I see the following error

No Excel Calculation Services is available in the farm.[User: SHAREPOINT\system]

However I do have "Exceul Calculation Services" running on a server in the Farm.  Is there any additional step which I need to perform in order to associate the service with the farm?  The server is a standalone server which is not connected to any domain.  I am using the location administrator account.
