Sharepoint sequential Purchase Requisition workflow using expense total to determine approvers

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am working on a sequential workflow in VS2008 that needs to determine approvers based on the total expense field entered in the PO form (Infopath 2007).  Right now I have the form set as a browser-based form associated with a document library to kick off the workflow.  The tricky part is the approval logic needs to pull approvers from SQL server 2008 tables and I am struggling with best approach---should this be a separate task form and module that uses the submitted data (classes formed from an init form)?  If so, are there any examples out there using SQL-based queries on HR hierarchy data to work from?

SharePoint 2007 Sequential Workflow in Visual Studio

I've got a problem of creating Sharepoint 2007 Sequential Workflow via Visual Studio 2008.

I have a Visual Studio 2008 on my machine which is not the server machine (Window XP) and a server which has SharePoint Server. I had been assigned task to work on Sharepoint Workflow. So, I have decided to create a project on my Visual Studio 2008, Sharepoint 2007 Sequential Workflow. But, I got the problem down here which blocked me.

"32-bit version of SharePoint Server is not installed. Please install a 32-bit version of SharePoint Server"

and following error in other system:

"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies"

- I am also not allowed to install Visual Studio 2008 on the server.

- I could not install Sharepoint Service 3.0 or SharePoint Server on my machine.

I hope you some body could help me with this matter.

Upgrade Sharepoint 2007 Custom State Machine/Sequential workflow to SharePoint 2010

What's the path for upgrading the SharePoint 2007 Custom State Machine/Sequential workflow to SharePoint 2010 when the current SharePoint 2007 environment is upgraded to SharePoint 2010 by an inplace upgrade?

What's the typical estimate time for upgrading SP2007 custom workflow to SP2010 custom workflow?  My gut says 40 to 80 hrs or even less than that, what’s your thoughts?

FYI...I tried to upgrade the SharePoint custom workflow built using visual studio 2008 in SP2007 environment to visual studio 2010 solution/project in SP2010 environment, I got the error messages to refer the following dll's

Microsoft.SharePoint.dll and Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowActions.dll

Even after referring the new dlls still the workflow design doesn't show up in the canvas...still work on this to fix mean while want to know the experts insights on this.

Changing the Deployment server of a sharepoint sequential workflow

Apologies if i have posted this in the wrong forum. I have a couple of sequential workflows that i have created and deployed to our test sharepoint site and am now ready to put them onto our live server which is on a completely different machine.

How do you change the deploy location of the workflow so that when its deployed its sent to the new server rather than the one set when first creating the workflow.

Assign SharePoint list sum total value to a sharepoint designer workflow variable

I have a similiar question and get answered but the solution is possible but not simple as I thought.   So I like to ask it again

I use SPD to build a workflow and I need to be able to get a SharePoint list column sum total value to assign to one of the workflow variable.

Do anyone have a similar situation and have came up with a solution , please share

Environment is  MOSS 2007 /SP2.

Thanks you so much in advance.

Add additional approvers to running sequential workflow

Hi, Is it possible to add additional approvers to a running workflow instance? I am using Visual Studio 2008. I see out-of-the-box SharePoint approval workflow has functionality to add participants after workflow starts. In SharePoint approval workflow When I add new approver it does not create new workflow instance rather uses the current running workflow instance and creates new tasks for additional approvers. I am looking to achieve same functionality. I have tried EnableWorkFlowModification Activity -> OnWorkflowModified -> CreateTask. However when I debug code through Visual Studio it does not throw any errors but when I look at workflow status I see "An error has occur..".

Please can anyone help me?

Sharepoint Wiki Custom Workflow

Has anyone done custom workflows for a sharepoint Wiki page?

The workflow I'm trying to do is, whenever a new wiki page is created I want a new Discussion page  to be created for that wiki page?

Any Help?

Setting permissions of a specific SharePoint workflow

We have a very simple workflow whereby an document placed in a public library (INBOX) is moved it to a private library (VERIFY) and then deleted. The workflow works correctly when someone who has access to the VERIFY library drops a record into the INBOX library.  However it does not work when the user does not have access to the VERIFY library.

I was told that I need to "set the AD group associated with a specific SharePoint workflow" but cannot find any reference to this in SPD.

Terminating a SharePoint Workflow Programatically

I have a custome workflow coded in VS 2005 and deployed in to GAC and associated to a List in the SharePoint Portel through MS SharePoint Designer.

When an Exception happened in the code, the worklow instance' Status is shown as "Error Occured" and get suspended. since this workflow instance is "hung up" at this list item another instance of the workflow can't run. To run another instance you have to go into the SP Portal --> List and click on the "Error Occured" under the workflow of the item and then you have to terminate the workflow by clicking on the "Terminate this workflow now" link.

I just need to do this function ("Terminating the workflow") in the code in my Catch block where i handle the exception of the workflow activity.

could some one please tell me how to do this? or even point me in the right direction?

i've so far tried varity of:

Workflow "Failed on Start (retrying)" when new item created by BizTalk SharePoint Adapter

We've been using the BizTalk SharePoint Adapter to load various different contents into a MOSS 2007 Document Library. The library has a Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 workflow (sequential workflow created in Designer) which starts automatically when a new item is added to the Document Library. Or, at least, it eventually starts automatically.

For some unknown reason--and this is what we're hoping some of you may have some ideas on--the workflow fails to start on the first try, producing the "Failed to Start (retrying)" message. When the timer job comes back the second time, the workflow starts successfully, but this causes us to loose five minutes of potential work time (not to mention making us look bad to the VPs and CTO because they see the failure message).

In checking the log, I find the following pair of error messages each time the "Failed to Start (retrying)" status occurs:

08/27/2007 13:49:43.24  w3wp.exe (0x0CA0)                        0x1438 Windows SharePoint Services    Workflow Infrastructure        72fs Unexpected RunWorkflow: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: <Error><CompilerError Line="1" Column="1" Text="The root activity type is invalid.&q

Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list

I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

Thank you,

SharePoint 2010 Long Starting if start workflow programatically

In SharePoint 2010, I'm starting workflow #2 programatically from my workflow #1. See code below:

					SPList currentList = web.Lists[new Guid(ListId)];
					SPListItem currentListItem = currentList.GetItemById(ListItem);

					//resolve any lookup parameters
					string workflowId = base.ProcessStringField(WorkflowIdentifier);

					//find workflow association by name
					SPWorkflowAssociation workflowAssoc = currentList.WorkflowAssociations.GetAssociationByName(workflowId, Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture);

					if (workflowAssoc != null)
						//start the workflow
						SPWorkflow workflow = site.WorkflowManager.StartWorkflow(currentListItem, workflowAssoc, workflowAssoc.AssociationData, SPWorkflowRunOptions.Synchronous);

And workflow #2  will hang with Starting status (1-10 minutes), Then the workflow #2 status would be modified  to Completed.

I couldn't find how to start the workflow # 2 immediately and complete immediately without several minutes delay

How can I implement this workflow scenario with SharePoint Designer?

I have a document content type and a library which contains this content type. here is what I want to do:

- when user creates a new document in this library, he will enter some user  names with people picker and then a message including some columns of the content type will be sent to that users. And then, at a certain date (lets say 1 day before a date that is one of the site columns) another email, a reminder will be sent.

I havent been able to find :

1- how can I replace a people picker field on workflow initiation form and how can I make it sent email to the user.

2- How can I make it sent a reminder email 1 day before the date that is stored in one of the columns of the content type(current item)

any help would be welcome,

SharePoint Workflow E-mail Hyperlink has the Spaces Between Two Words Are Removed

I have a very simple Workflow, that includes href link to Infopath form.
If the form name includes spaces, the URL redirects to a The Form has been Closed message, indicating that it cant find that form.
In our scenario, the file name of the document/form in SharePoint when saved is called "Travel Request - <submit date>"  as noted with spaces.
The Hyperlink URL in the email generated by the workflow appears to encode all values in the name after the first two words (after Request).  See below.  after the word Request the spaces are encoded properly.     its replacing the first space with it appears %0d%0a (CR LF)
The URL below is what is displayed when right clicking, and selecting Edit Hyperlink in the email

I can reproduce this in development and production.  Any ideas on how this can be resolved?
