ASP.NET Configuration Help, Security

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am using Visual Studio Express 2010 and SQL Server 2008 Express.

When I use the "Web Site Administration Tool" and click on "Security" I get the message "Unable to connect to SQL Server database."   I then click on "Choose Data Store".  I see "Your application is currently configured to use the provider: AspNetSqlProvider".  I click on "Select a single provider for all site management data".  I then click "Test".

I then get, "Provider Management" "Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."

I have run the aspnet_regsql utility and configured my database and copied it to my app_data folder.  Here are the contents of my web.config file for the site:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

<configuration>

  <connectionStrings>

    <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>

    <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database=AspNetServices;Uid=AspNetServicesUser;Pwd=sitepassword"/>

Weird security configuration error message

I have a windows service that runs on client machines and connects to a WCF service on a server.  This windows service seems to work fine on Windows XP, Vista and 7  machines, but when I try and run it on a Server 2008 R2 machine I get the following error: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for system.serviceModel/bindings: Could not load type 'System.Security.Authentication.ExtendedProtection.Configuration.ExtendedProtectionPolicyElement' from assembly 'System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. The only thing I have found online that is remotely similar is this MS hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2262911 But when I try and apply it, it says that it isn't for my computer. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Setting Auto-Rules in Cube Security Roles configuration

Hello-

Our client's requirements for some Charts are simply:

1. Users with no access to specific Business Units (A Dimension with Parent-Child Hierarchy, refereed as BU from now) shall see the total amount (Revenues for example) of All Top Parent BUs but should not be able to drill down on any of the children BUs of the Top Parent BUs they don't have access to.

2. Users with full access to specific BUs shall be able to see the whole value of All Top  Parent BUs and their children BUs as well.

Example:

1. User with No Access to  BU 'A' shall see the total Value for this BU A, but cannot drill down to A1,A2,Ax.. which are children of A.

2. User with Full Access to  BU 'A' shall see the total Value for this BU A, and can drill down to A1,A2,Ax..

For disabling access to specific BUs with the ability to see their total values, I did the following in the cube security roles configuration (Consider the latter Example #1):

1. In the Dimension Data Page, I chose the radio box Select all members, And checked the box beside the BU A, unchecked all

SharePoint Tutorial - Security

Security in SharePoint is comprised of users, groups and roles.

Users, Groups and Roles

Users
A user account comes from the authentication system. For example, if Active Directory is used to authenticate then the user accounts will come from it.

Groups
There are two types of groups SharePoint uses: domain groups and SharePoint groups.

Asp.net web site security database

Hello all, I'm new to asp.net and I'm currently practising some few stuffs. I'm creating a hotel reservation system using ASP.net Web site in visual studio 2008 and I currently don't have an App_Data in my solution explorer unlike visual web developer.

1. I have planned to make users of the website login before making their reservations.

2. I have also planned to develop the website such that I will be able to know all reservations made by each user.

First and formost, I will like to know how I can access/View the security database?

Secondly, how do I link my custom made reservation database and the security database in order to achieve my second plan above.?

Someone help me.

Thank you.

Good Day all,

Having an issue with an outside user accessing my IIS7 box. I do not have this problem when running the website from my host machine. I found this post: Http://forums.asp.net/t/1371394.aspx. I assure you that this is not a solution because I am not storing any of my files on a network share.

What do you think my approach should be.

I already have read rights to IIS user to my BIN folder.

Thanks for the help.

XBAP Security

We have a small XBAP file upload app that we are having trouble deploying. We were getting security errors when we were pushing this application that we don't get when running in our development environments on our machines. We gave the XBAP app full permissions and still got errors. Then we created a personal certificate and were able to get this to work. But that means we have to load a client side certificate for each and every machine that wants to run this which is ridiculous. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Intranet Users Challenged When Using Windows Integrated Security

We've setup an intranet site using Windows Integrated Security. Its up and running and users can access it. However, they are being challenged with a login dialog for the server when they initially access the site.

Isn't is possible to configure the server so that the users aren't challenged AND are recognized as being already authenticated by Windows? We're trying to go with a seamless experience, whereby all they have to do is login to their machine like normal and then go from there.

Security Question Answer Retrieval

I know there is a method built in for retrieving the encrypted password, but how do I retrieve the encrypted security answer?

What I want to do is have a member profile update screen that the end user can update their password and security question and answer. However, when they get to this page, I want to already be showing the security question (the easy part) and its answer (the not so easy part).

I have updated web.config with passwordFormat=Encrypted and have added a machineKey with the generator (forgot the link, but located on eggheadcafe somewhere).

I haven't done ANYTHING yet, since I already have a user store with hashed information. I wanted to get some functionality done before publishing, wiping the store and recreating users (only a couple developers).

Thanks,
Kerry

ASP.NET Configuration not opening

I recently upgraded to VS 2010 and downgraded to SQL Server 2005. Now when I go Website > ASP.NET Configuration nothing happens.

It's likely this has to do with the fact that when I was installing SQL Server I got the 'ASP.net Version Registration requirement' warning, as well as the 'Failed to find the ASP.net Version Registration requirement with MS IIS'.

Anyone know what I need to get ASP.NET Configuration working?

An endpoint configuration section for contract 'xxx' could not be loaded because more than one end

Hello,

I'm trying to test calling a webservice, I've found several free ones on http://webserviceshare.com, but none of them work for me.  Some of them give example calling code in C# which I've translated to VB.NET, they're typically just two to four lines, I don't think I've translated them incorrectly.

On that I've tried is US Zip Validator.  I added a Service Reference to http://www.webservicemart.com/uszip.asmx?WSDL, called ZipService.

I then call it like so:

            Dim myZipService As ZipService.USZipSoapClient = New ZipService.USZipSoapClient()
            Dim myCity As String = myZipService.ValidateZip("27707")

I get the following error on the first line of code:

"An endpoint configuration section for contract 'ZipService.USZipSoap' could not be loaded because more than one endpoint configuration for that contract was found. Please indicate the preferred endpoint configuration section by name."

A page with information on this web service (including C# source code) is at:
