Hi ,

I ran into the following error when trying to install sql server 2008 cluster (node 1) on windows 2008

The resource failed to come online due to the failure of one or more provider resources. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80071736)

Any insight on this issue is greatly appreciated

I am loading sql server 2008 r2 developer edition into Windows Vista Home Basic. Product loads correctly with no error messages; except will not create database engine. And will not create integration services. When I try to open MMC, I will get error "MMC could not initialize the snap-in. Product may not have been installed correctly."

I understand this is a known issue for SQL Server 2008 RD installing on Windows Vista? What is the workaround or fix? Hot fixes available for this issue from support.microsoft.com do not install on my Windows Vista Home Basic machine.

Server 2008 R2 -> Failed to decrypt using provider 'RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider'. Error mess

So I am using the aspnet_regiis.exe tool to encrypt sections of the web.config in my asp.net applications and services.  I have done this for years successfully on Windows Server 2003 (IIS 6).  However I just moved some apps over to Windows Server 2008 R2 (with IIS 7.5) and I am now receiving the following error at runtime:

"Server was unable to process request. ---> Failed to decrypt using provider 'RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider'. Error message from the provider: Bad Data."

Now I am quite familiar with this process and am stumped at what I have missed this time around.  I have done ALL of the following which typically suffices for the process on the server. PLEASE READ ALL AND DO NOT PROVIDE RESPONSES OR LINKS FOR THINGS I HAVE ALREADY DONE Thanks!!  Wink

  1. Imported the keys to the server using aspnet_regiis -pi  Result: Success
  2. Given FULL permission (using -full switch) using aspnet_regiis -pa to ALL of the following accounts  Result: Success

SQL Server 2008 Install failure - Reporting Services Rule Failures

I'm installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.  I'm going through the install and on the "Installation Rules" page I have two failures: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existance Clicking on each of the failures they both say that each file exists "Select a reporting services file-only mode installation" Clicking the "Help" button tells me to "Rename, move, or delete the files" This is the only information I can find on this exact failure.  I'm not technical enough to know exactly where these files are or what they are named.  I cannot proceed any further without correcting this issue.  I'll include some of the shorter summary log files.  I can include other detail log files if that would help. Thank you so much for any help. named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.

SQL server 2008 failover cluster install

Hello all, Looking for the definitive answer with supporting documentation (link). Does a SQL server 2008 cluster have to be installed as or run as a domain service account or can local accounts be used?  I looked for a document that stated yes or no and could not find one. If anyone can provide info it would be much appreciated. Have all ready looked at these 2 links of interest. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Service_SID http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731002(WS.10).aspx Thanks in advance,

SQL Server 2008 Installation / Uninstall failed: Error 1603

Hello! I've been trying to install the SQL Server 2008 CTP 5.0 on a Windows Server 2008. The installation failed and left the shared components installed but the database engine was missing. So I tried to roll back the installation and stumbled upon the problem again. Now I can't install or uninstall any SQL Server (I tried 2005 as well) without these results. This is the file *Sql_Cpu32_1_ComponentUpdateSetup.log === Verbose logging started: 01.01.2001  20:30:03  Build type: SHIP UNICODE 4.00.6001.00  Calling process: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\setup100.exe ===MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:671]: Resetting cached policy valuesMSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:671]: Machine policy value 'Debug' is 0MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:671]: ******* RunEngine:           ******* Product: {8151C56C-5426-481C-96AF-F221FE1A10F2}           ******* Action:            ******* CommandLine: **********MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:687]: Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server.MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:687]: Grabbed execution mutex.MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:04:062]: Cloaking enabled.MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:04:062]: Attempting to enable all disabled privileges before calling Install on ServerMSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:04:125]: Incrementing counter to disable shutdown. SQL server 2008R2 install on a server 2008 R2 failover cluster. Other resources won't failover to o

As the subject says, I've built a fresh install w2k8r2 and sql2k8r2 failover cluster. Sql works fine on the primary node, but when I test a failover it breaks. Specifically, if I were to stop the node1 cluster service (causing the cluster to switch to node2), windows changes the cluster DNS appropriatly and moves the shared storage just fine, but sql server doesn't failover.  Server Name, Disk Drives and Other Resources all go offline. I've verified that the advanced policies of the server name, IP, cluster drives all have both nodes checked as possible owners However, Other resources only lists node1 as a possible owner and there appears to be no way to add node2.  Under the Other resources, SQL Server and SQL Server Agent are listed. I'm sorta stumped, I've been combing the forums and have found similar issues, but nothing seems to explain why the two resources won't failover.

SQL Server 2008 Install Error (February CTP)

When I try installing the SQL Server 2008 Feb CTP on Windows Vista (Ultimate SP1) on VMware Fusion (using setup in the servers folder) I get (after .NET 3.5 has installed) the error

"Setup has encountered the following error:

Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.. "

The hostname in cmd.exe is WIN-FG6V4XSWVPA

Has anyone else had this? Has anyone found a fix?

Setup log is:

Package results:
  Failed: see details below

Execution statistics:
  Exit code:                     0x2435DDA6
Exit message:                  Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.
  Package start time:            03/17/2008 14:53:03
  Package end time:              03/17/2008 14:53:14

Had same issue after (virtual) computer name changed to FUSE and restarted.

SQL Express 2008 R2 failed to install: Exit error code: 17115

I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2, but I keep getting errors.  I've probably tried 10 to 15 times over the last weeks, always trying something different.  Yes, I'm learning to read the logs, the summary.txt provided below.  The last two times I've noticed that the exit code, exit facility code, and error code are the same in this log.  I tried following one post that had these codes and had long/detailed procedure on how to remove SQL manually, especially traces from the registry.  It didn't solve my problem.  I get no errors on removal, everything removes successfully.  So what to do?  Thanks for your help.  --Ralph

SQL 2008 R2 cluster installation failure - Failed to find shared disks

Hi,

The validation tests in the SQL 2008R2 cluster installation (running Windows 2008 R2) fails with the following error. The cluster has one root mount point with multiple mount points :

"The cluster on this computer does not have a shared disk available. To continue, at least one shared disk must be available'.

The "Detail.txt" log has alot of "access is denied" errors and here is just a sample. Any ideas what might be causing this issue?
