Moving Reporting Service database to a new server.

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a reportserver database on a 2005 instance.  I've moved it and reportservertempdb to a 2008 server.  In the config tool > Database > Change Database,  I'm getting

"The database you have selected is not a report server database.  Please select a SQL Server database that contains report server specific tables and stored procedures and try again."

I have done exactly what is noted in this thread:  http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/f8be967e-2126-4b1d-bcbe-9903d5c6b66a

Thanks for any help.

RDL Rendering (500 Internal Server) Error at Sharepoint Integrated Reporting Service

I have a serious problem that cannot be solved by googling around the keywords below:
sharepoint, moss 2007, reporting service, ssrs 2008, rendering, internal server error, ....

The error is;

"An error occurred during client rendering. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. "

Everything is O.K.;

* When I render the report from the REPORTSERVER (http://localhost/ReportServer)
* When the reports are scheduled to be sent by the reporting service (planned via MOSS 2007)

But if I open (render) the RDL file from the sharepoint REPORTS LIBRARY interface, all of the reports fail with that internal error message above.

It is weird also that parametrized reports are displayed without errors although the parameters are queried from a sql dataset. But I got the error when rendering the report after I've chosen a parameter  and order "apply/report"...

Possible causes how I met that error may be;

After I have installed (then uninstalled) AJAX extensions
After I have re-configured IIS Web Service Extensions list items

Possible solution alternatives I've found;

I've found a solution on MSDN replying a similar issue with an ideal cause of the error but an evreka answer but no sol

Access from Reporting Service database in Sqlserver2005 to Sqlserver2008 R2 database

We are going to upgrade our databases from SQLServer 2005 to SQLServer 2008 R2. Today the databases including Reporting Services are running in SQLServer 2005 9.0.4211 and in a cluster environment. We are planning not to upgrade the Reporting Service database to Sqlserver 2008 R2. The Sqlserver2005 and Sqlserver2008 R2 will be run side-by-side.   My question is: Is it possible to access a database running in Sqlserver 2008 R2 from a Reporting service database that is running in Sqlserver 2005 (9.0.4211)?

Does SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Reporting Service support Shared Datasets?

I have spent a few hours trying to get this to work. I am using Report Builder 3.0 (locally), with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition on a remote web server. I am running Report Builder as an Admin under Win7 64bit. All is OK until I attempt a Save of a newly created shared dataset. The error message is: Failed to save dataset "mydataset.rsd" The feature "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. Details: The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.OperationNotSupportedException: The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. I have researched the web, and the list of features for Express Edition does not list this feature as not being supported, although it does list "Shared component library" as being missing. Could anyone please confirm the situation please. If it is  a bug, is there any fix or workaround?  John Walton

SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 R2 - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

I got the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I call the Reporting Service Web Service.

The code is very simple:

// Initialise the reporting service Web Service

this.RSWebService = new ReportingService2010();

// Pass windos authentication credentials to Web Service

this.RSWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;

// List children

List<CatalogItem> reports = this.RSWebService.ListChildren(folder, false).ToList();

The SQL Server is installed on a different machine (say server A) from the Web server (say server B). We are using Windows Server 2003.

The code work fine for all the scenario below:

i) Run locally (XP) to call the web service on the sql server

ii) Provide the Network Credentials with the username, password, and domain when calling the web service

iii) If the web server and sql server is using same server (i.e. not distributed)

I'm using windows authentication and impersonation. Any idea?

Can't install Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

I just installed a stand-alone SQL Server 2005 reporting services on a 64-bit Server 2008 machine without receiving any errors.  I have not configured reporting services yet, but I'd like to patch it with Service pack 3. However, when I execute Service Pack 3, it won't let me check the box for reporting services.  I've rebooted, etc.  The database is not installed on this server, just reporting services.

I have performed many searches, but I have not seen anyone with a similar problem.  What can I do so that it allows me to check the box during service pack installation?

Issue when migrating Reporting service reports from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008

Hi Friends,

We are migrating reporting service reports from SQL server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 and facing below login issue.

We got a virtual machine with 2003 server and got SQL Server 2008 installed with reporting service.

I was able to publish my 2005 reports using VS 2005 easily.

1) But when I try to run the reports I am getting below errors at my website home page.

The permissions granted to user 'DomainName\MachineName' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

I could not get why there is no user name in above error and how it says machine name does not have permissioin?

There should be at least some user id mentioned as per me.

What could be the reason of above error?

2) Also when I try to run reports using Reports website (i.e. http://server/Reports URL), I get below errro in executing the reports.

"An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'ReportSource'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'."

Here the question is how it is picking up Anonymous logon. I thought it might be using Network Sevice acct to access reports.

What should I be doing to resolve above errors?

3) Also one more point about the s

Moving SharePoint Database to non trusted domain SQL server

Hi,

We have SharePoint and SQL server in a extranet domain. We would like move the SQL server databases for SharePoint to our corporate SQL server (on the corporate domain).

The Corporate domain does not trust the extranet domain, and thus the web farm account cannnot be specified on the corportare SQL instance. If it possible to migrate the databases to a non tusted domain?

I've seen the script to create a new Config database using SQL authentication

psconfig -cmd configdb -create -server <SQL server name> -database <database name> -dbuser <SQL account> -dbpassword <SQL password> -user <AD user account> -password <AD user password>

Can I edit the config of SharePoint to point to the new SQL server, or do I need to create the entire sharepoint enviromnent again and attach the content databases?

I also have a SSP database that's heavily customised for searcvhing and the BDC. Will this need recreating again or can I move the BDC database  to the new server and attach?

Thanks,

Upgrade Publication Database by Moving to New Server

I currently have a published database on SQL Server 2000 that we intend to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 by detaching the database from the 2000 server and attaching it to the 2008 machine.  This database is being replicated via merge replication to about 70 mobile subscribers running MSDE (2000 SP3) who aren't consistently docked and synchronized.

From my understanding of the documentation the only way to move this database and re-setup replication from 2008 down to MSDE is to delete the publication on the current SQL 2000 publisher and re-create it on the new SQL 2008 publisher.  The issue is that our subscribers aren't regularly connected and it would be very difficult to have most of them connected at the same time to push new subscriptions from the 2008 server.  Deleting the SQL 2000 publication would also prevent any subscribers from uploading changes back to the publisher database and all of that user's local work would be lost.

Is there any sort of migration path for merge replication from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 that doesn't require the subscribers to all be connected at the same time and also prevents data loss from the subscriber's DB?
