Error: The variable System::ErrorDescription contains a string that exceeds the maximum allowed leng

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi,

i get the following error message, when I try to email the error description, by invoking a 'Send Mail Task' in OnError event.

"Error: The variable System::ErrorDescription contains a string that exceeds the maximum allowed length of 4000 characters."

Any idea how to resolve this issue? I am using substring when I build the expression. But still am facing this issue.

BCP Error user api layer: external error: A data length of 40 exceeds the maximum length allowed for

A client using our product that uses SQL Express for its database is getting an error during a BCP OUT command. The error is

CTLIB Message:  - L1/O1/S1/N138/1/0:

: user api layer: external error: A data length of 40 exceeds the maximum length allowed for password data

None of our other client installs get this error so we are assuming it is security related.

Does anyone know where to configure this?

Also, if we change the password to something smaller, we then get a different error saying the server cannot be found even though it is there. We are again assuming this is security related.

I have no idea where to look to figure this out. I was hoping for some sort of SQL error number but none was provided in the error message.

Thanks,

Tony.

Maximum memory for string ? . System.MemoryOutOfException Occurs when reading the Content of the fil

Hi,

I have a C++ code which reads a file [vtk file - its similar to text file only]. and try to store it in string.

here's the code:

String^ ParallelProjectionRenderer::GetVolumeDataAsString(String^ FileName)

{
    vtkSmartPointer<vtkDataSetWriter> sWriter = vtkSmartPointer<vtkDataSetWriter>::New();

    String^ FileName = "D:\\Users\\...";

    char * sptName = static_cast<char *>(Marshal::StringToHGlobalAnsi(FileName).ToPointer());

    sWriter->SetFileName(sptName);

    sWriter->SetFileTypeToASCII();

    sWriter->Write();

    sWriter->Delete();

    String^ result= File::ReadAllText(FileName);   [it breaks here with system.memoryoutofexception when the file size is huge]

    return result;

}

this code executes fine when the file size is less than 8mb.

I wanted to know whats the maximum memory allocated to the string.

As a workaround i skipped reading out in C++ code. and i tried to read the file contents in asp.net C# code and stor

Failing Connection String Environmental Variable, XML Variable, System Variable (SQL Server) Setup

We attempted to implement the Chapter 2 Framework from the Knight, Vermeen, Moss, Hackney book on SSIS 2008: Problem Design Solution. We see a couple of problem areas (at least) in our interpretation of the guidelines from the book.

1. We are attempting to have one connection string per server: dev/prod

2. We have set up environmental variables per server: dev/prod

3. We have set up XML Package Variables per server: dev/prod

4. We have set up System Variables per server in SQL Server: dev/prod

Problem 1:

We've had to manually key in the common connection string to all packages on a server environment in the component properties area (control flow; not data flow--ok there)

Shouldn't the connection property find the connection that we've instantiated and provide us with a pull down to select it?

The components are un-editable after we select the common connection string, but they still run properly in our SQL Server Agent Job.

Problem 2:

The dev server variable overlays the prod server variable information duringprod component editing

We are'nt sure if these problems are related.

Here is our package variable:

\Package.Variables[User::connMedcDwProd].Properties[Value]

Here is our DTSconfig file; we have a few variations of this that we've tried.

string.Split - not all characters allowed as separator

Hi,

I am working on a site where I use the Split function on a string.

To make sure I used a separator character that I do not use anywhere in the data I selected the character '£'.

This worked fine in Firefox and Safari, but in IE8 I get an 'Index out of range' error, so apparently the '£' character is not handled correctly.

I changed the separator to ';', and then it works fine.

Cheers,

Johnny

Business Data Error: System.OverFlowException

I have a Business Data Catalog file I've uploaded to connect to our back end Firebird DBMS through ODBC.

The SharePoint server is MOSS 2007 x64. The web front end server(s) all have an x64 Firebird Engine and ODBC driver with verified connectivity to Firebird.

When I use one of the methods, I can see connections being made to our Firebird server and the query being passed. I know the query returns results (it's a stored procedure with no parameters), but I get the following error "An error occurred while retrieving data from MROTest1. Administrators, see the server log for more information" in IE. If I look in the server logs, I see (12\Hive\Logs)

Hello Guys,         I am getting following exception while web service (ASMX) is returning the response. <!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style> System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.     <!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style>                                                     InnterException (System.IO.Exception): "Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."       I think either the Asp.net web server is closing the connection or the response is too long.   Following is my simple code.    1)   namespace JFA.IndiePay.BusinessAccess { public class VerTexProcessor { public DataSet ProcessVerTexForBatch(DataSet dsInputRequest) { DataSet dsResponse = new DataSet(); //Call vertex web service here. System.Messaging - Error accessing properties of remote private queues - "UnsupportedFormatNameExcep

I'm having some difficulty accessing private queues on a remote machine, but no trouble using remote public queues or private queues on a local machine. Calling: System.Messaging.MessageQueue.GetPrivateQueuesByMachine("machine"); ..succesfully returns the array of private queues on the remote machine.  However, trying to access nearly all of the properties on these MessageQueue objects returns: MessageQueueErrorCode: UnsupportedFormatNameOperation Message:"The specified format name does not support the requested operation. For example, a direct queue format name cannot be deleted." I have no trouble accessing queues created identically on the local machine using GetPrivateQueuesByMachine("."), plus accessing public queues using GetPublicQueuesByMachine("machine") also returns MessageQueue objects that are useable. The FormatName returned appears to be valid, as you would expect from queues retreived via GetPrivateQueuesByMachine().  e.g: FormatName:Direct=OS:machine\\private$\\example ..so I think the error message returned may be somewhat spurious. The permissions on the queues all appear to be set correctly.  I had even attempted allowing "Full Control" to "Everyone" on these queues as an experiment, with the same results. Any ideas for other things I might try? p.s. I am running Windows XP SP2, using .NET 2.

The system immediately crashes and i get the same blue screen. People do you have any ideas of what i could do to fix this??? It's kind of urgent so I would appreciate any quick responses. thank you all again eveve

query string or session variable or neither for this scenario?

Hello,example scenario: user login has a list of associated 'accounts' it has access to... this list of accounts is stored in a database table, say tblAccountAccessControl, something like:login, accountID-----------------------userA, account123userA, account456userA, account798userB, accountABCuserB, accountDEFetc..this info is used throughout the web application and determines the 'domain' of information the particular login has access to. For example there are many other tables that have the 'accountID' field and whenever a page pulls data from the table it only pulls data that the currently logged in user should be allowed to see, based on that tblAccountAccessControl data.the security question:1) do I need to query the database every time I need to get this list of allowed accountID's? I was about to use a plain old query string to pass a particular accountID to another page but quickly caught myself as I realized that would be a major security flaw (the receiving page was going to use that accountID to grab info from the database, and there would be nothing preventing a user from simply typing in a url manually to get data from an accountID they are not supposed to be allowed to view). So I then thought I'll just store the list of accountID's in a session state variable so they will be carried with the user throughout the sessi
