SharePoint 2010 in place install

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I did an in place upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010.  The install went successfully with only warnings to some missing server side dependencies which were remnants to the 2007 installation.  However the 2007 installation still shows in Programs and Features and all the services remain (albeit disabled) along with the old application pools.  I've seen other posts related to this question, but never a firm answer if it is safe to remove SharePoint 2007 after an in place upgrade if the install succeeded.  Taking a step back, why wouldn't this get cleaned up after a successful install?  Was this due to the warnings about missing server side dependencies?  Was it because I chose to keep custom templates in tact until I had a chance to upgrade to the new visual theme?  My main concern is cleaning up the server and removing errors related to the old installation like DPM backups.  Plus I don't want wasted resources running in the background unnecessary.

Thanks in advance

Cannot install Sharepoint Server 2010 "A previous installation has been detected with a license type

I'm trying to upgrade to Team Foundation Server 2010 and Project Server 2010. After getting TFS 2010 and Project Server 2007 to work with WSS 3.0, I started upgrade to Project Server 2010 which requires update to Sharepoint Server 2010 Enterprise. I installed pre-requisites and run "stsadm -o preupgradecheck" which passed everything. When I tried to run the installation I get Setup Warning "A previous installation has been detected with a license type that does not match the install in progress". I thought that my trial licence for Project Server 2007 stopped this so I completely uninstalled WSS 3.0 and restarted the server but the installation still stops with Upgrade window. Any ideas? HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error after SharePoint 2010 In-place upgrade

Hello We have done an SharePoint 2010 In-Place Upgrade. After the upgrade, we can access the Central Administration page without problems. SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Update - Install sequence - Foundation required or not?

For a SharePoint 2010 Server (not Foundation) environment, is it necessary to install the Foundation Cumulative Update as well as the Server Cumulative Update?  (In the same way that with 2007, you install the WSS update and then the MOSS update) The nearest I have found to an answer is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx where it says 'We recommend that you always install SharePoint Foundation 2010 patches before installing SharePoint Server 2010 patches. This best practice ensures that you will always be successful when installing updates.'   In this regard, should 2010 Foundation be thought of as a pre-req, or underlying component, for 2010 Server?   The same question applies to the use of the Updates folder in the install media - for a Server install, should we be extracting both the Foundation and Server Cumulative Updates there, for a correct slipstreamed install?   Thanks.   Rob

Can you install SharePoint 2010 and User PerformancePoint in a single server enviroment?

Hi I Installed SharePoint 2010 in a single server farm and I configured a Performance Point service aplication. Whenever I run dashboard designer it seems to work but it eventually crashes. I don´t know if I have any configuration errors. I read this Run the Secure Store Service on a separate application server that is not used for any other service. Create the secure store database on a separate application server running SQL Server. Do not use the same SQL Server installation that contains content databases. Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806889.aspx I believe this service is necesary to run connect to data sources does this mean it all cannot be run in the same server.

Cannot install Sharepoint 2010 from powershell

I have been given the task of installing Sharepoint 2010 onto a Windows Server 2008 fresh OS. I am attempting to do this using Powershell as we will likely have to rebuild this machine later so i want the rebuild to be as quick as possible. I have setup the SPModules in powershell and add the path to to the PSModule variable. When i run the following command: PS C:\Windows\system32> Install-SharePoint -SetupExePath "location of software\setup.exe" -ConfigXML "location of software\Files\SetupFarm\config.xml" -PIDKey "my key" i get the error: Property 'Value' cannot be found on this object; make sure it exists and is settable. At D:\SPModule\spmodule.setup\Install-SharePoint.ps1:373 char:52 +             $CurrentConfigXml.Configuration.PIDKEY. <<<< Value = $PIDKey     + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (Value:String) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException     + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PropertyNotFound even though the key is an argument. I then added the key to a copy of the config file and ran following: PS C:\Windows\system32> Install-SharePoint -SetupExePath "location of software\setup.exe" -ConfigXML "location of software\Files\SetupFarm\configpidkey.xml"

HTTP 500 After Sharepoint 2010 Install on Win 2008 R2

Environment specifics: Windows 2008 R2 SQL 2008 (Version: 10.0.2746.0) No internet connection so I installed all the prerequisite software. I have two domain accounts: SPAdmin and SPFarm SPAdmin is what I use to install Sharepoint. SPFarm runs the app pool, timer service etc. Domain: Development domain. Scenario: After the SP Setup Wizard, Central admin is inaccessible and gives a HTTP 500 error. I checked the recommended permissions for both accounts and they both appear to be in the correct groups. The only way I can get it to work is to add the SPFarm account as a local admin. So it appears to be a permissions issue. But I can't figure out what the issue is or even where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

SharePoint 2010 in place upgrade "Cannot complete the action"

I currently did an inplace upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Standard in a medium farm deployment with one WFE and a remote SQL server with one site collection.  The upgrade process was marked as finished in CA.  The problem now is with the root site in the site collection is throwing the error "Cannot complete the action".  I've narrowed it down to the "Pages" library in the the root site.  The root site is using site template id = 20 template name = SPS#0, and template title = SharePoint Portal Server Site.  If I hard code the URL in IE address bar I can get everywhere on the root site including the settings page of the "Pages" library.  The error is thrown when I try to access the "Manage Permissions" link of the "Pages" library or when I try to browse to http://<rootsite>/pages/default.aspx. I believe the default.aspx page was customized by the customer when they were on SharePoint 2007 Standard.

Silent Install SharePoint Designer 2010

How do you do a silent install of SharePoint Designer 2010? I tried using SharePointDesigner.exe /passive /norestart but it prompts to accept the license and to pick a full or custom install. I also tried extracting the package and running setup /admin but it fails also with an error that the components are missing to run /admin.

SharePoint 2010 new install falls over when using automatic password renewal.

Guys, I've installed SharePoint Server 2010 today, and it has fallen over heavily once this afternoon and I rebuilt the farm, it has now just happened again. I believe it is falling over when I set the managed credentials up to change the password automatically. To test this feature I scheduled the password change so it would happen in the next 15-30 mins to monitor the behavior. Initially I manually did a 'change password for this account now' with a randomly generated password that SP generates. I did this for the Farm account, I then restarted the Timer Service (which obviously uses this account). The restart of the service was successful. I was then using the 'Manage Service Accounts' console to change ther service for the 'Windows Token Claims Service' to a least priv service account, I then did the same for some other services. I then got the following exception: SharePoint.Administration.SPWindowsServiceCredentialDeploymentJobDefinition... Unfortunately I don't have the entire exception as I no longer can access the farm, but it seemed to suggest there was already an object in the timer service named the same as the job I had potentially created in trying to change the credentials, and said to rename the object first?!?! Others have had a similar exception trying to change the profile import service credentials (I LEFT THIS SERVICE ALONE!!). I then restarted the

Purpose of initial "site" in SharePoint Server 2010 Express Install

I’m installing Search Server 2010 Express using “Farm” mode. After the SharePoint Configuration Wizard completes, and selecting  the SharePoint config wizard, one needs to create a website. What is that site intended for? Is it for the Search Center itself? (If so, then I better select the Enterprise – “Basic Search Center" template. If it is intended for a "normal" top level site, then I will create a new Search site in its own web app). TIA, Barkingdog

SharePoint 2010 in-place upgrade fails

I have tried the in-place upgrade in a test site and its fails. When I remove the SSP the upgrade was succesfull.

In the error log there is a backup device reference 'C:\DATA\slq_Backup\INT_SharedServices_DB_backup.dat'. This file is missing now. Maybe this is a previous config, but I can't remember it. In the SQL Server 2008 I have not found any backup device. We use third partly backup solution. I don't know where the corresponding backup file is configured.

Error log:

How can I install Features into the Sharepoint 2010 Server Standard after the install?

I have installed SharePoint Server 2010 Standard. We are testing the functionality of the new system and what it can do. I got an upgraded copy of the HelpDesk and Knowledge Base Templates (Part of the Fab 40) from http://techsolutions.net/Blog/tabid/65/EntryId/17/Fab-40-Templates-for-MOSS-2010.aspx. They seem to be good, but there is a feature that is in the Server that is not installed that I need to be able to get both of these working.

The feature is: Web Analytics Customize Reports functionality (Display Name: WACustomReports).

I need to be able to get this feature installed and activated so that I can use these 2 templates. Is there someone that can help me with this issue?

NOTE: I have tried to use the command line for SharePoint Power Shell. It is not working. The files that it is looking for are not on the HDD where they should be.
