SharePoint 2010 Date Columns are not Indexing (or searchable)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a 2010 Record Center.  Indexing and search functions seem to be working.  However, searching dates does not produce results.  The date column is marked for indexing.  Crawling is working and I do get other text type results.  I have tried switching the column to Date & Time in the detailed column settings.  With or withouth the time, it does not come up in the results.

There is an interesting twist.  On SOME, the search returns the AllItems.aspx PAGE (not the document or list item itself) that it resides on with the searched date highlighted in the result item description.

Show wiki page library columns on wiki pages- SharePoint 2010

I created a wiki page library in SharePoint 2010 and added a few columns to the library. However, these columns do not show on the actual wiki pages as they did in SharePoint 2007. I looked through the library settings but didn't find anything to turn on this feature. Does anyone know how to do this or if this feature was even included in SharePoint 2010? Thanks.

Indexing files larger than 16 MB in SharePoint 2010

Tonight, I came across an interesting blog post by Fellow MVP, Todd Klidnt in which he explains how to work around the 16 MB limitation for file indexing in SharePoint 2010 using PowerShell. "As with previous versions of SharePoint, SharePoint 2010 will not index the contents of files larger than 16 MB. There are a couple of reasons for this such as network usage pulling large files across and the time it takes to break them apart". Click here to continue to the post.

OneNote 2010 indexing in SharePoint 2007?

Hi,

I've followed the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946336 for enabling OneNote indexing in SharePoint 2007. I've found OneNote 2007 can be indexed (and searched), while OneNote 2010 cannot be indexed. OneNote 2010 content throws the error...

The filtering process could not be initialized. Verify that the file extension is a known type and is correct.

Even though both OneNote 2007 & 2010 use the same ".one" extension.

Is it true that OneNote 2010 cannot be indexed in SharePoint 2007? Is there any workarounds to this issue?

Thanks.

Using Infopath 2010 to customize a SharePoint 2010 list with columns using Managed Metadata

Hello All-

I would like to customize the "new" form on a SharePoint list that has some columns that use managed metadata term sets as options.  Unfortunately, when I do so, I get the message:

"InfoPath cannot generate a form template for the SharePoint list."

The following fields in the SHarePoint list are not supported because of their data type and will not be available in InfoPath Designer:

-MyColumnName (TaxonomyFieldTypeMulti)

This error message seems to be pretty self explanatory, but it boggles my mind that this would be the case.  Can I really not customize my list "new" form in Infopath if I am using columns with managed metadata?  Any workarounds?

SharePoint 2010 SPSiteDataQuery with Lookup additional columns.

Hello

I am trying to use SPSiteDataQuery to collect data across different sites. The query seems to fail when I add Lookup additional data columns. I mean when we create a lookup column, sharepoint 2010 allows us to get data from additional columns from the lookup list. When I try to include these columns SPSiteDataQuery is failing. This is the viewfields that I am using.

"<FieldRef Name='ID' Nullable='True'/><FieldRef Name='Lookup' /><FieldRef Name='Lookup_x003a_Title'/><FieldRef Name='LinkTitle' Nullable='True'/><FieldRef Name='Created' Nullable='True'/><FieldRef Name='Modified' Nullable='True'/><FieldRef Name='ID' Nullable='True'/>"

In here the Lookup_x003a_Title (displayname : Lookup:Title) is the column that bring data from the Title column ofthe lookup list.

Any help is greatly appreciated. The query works fine without Lookup:Title column.

Thanks

Vijay

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.
