Datasheet view, I get this error message: The lists are access DB lists.

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
When I try to edit any of the lists by typing directly in the Datasheet view, I get this error message: The lists are access DB lists.

"An unexpected error has occurred. Changes to your data cannot be saved. For this error, you can retry or discard your changes."

I get this error message when I try to
1. add a new row by typing directly in the Datasheet view,
2. edit an existing row by typing (or selecting from a dropdown menu) directly in the Datasheet view, or
3. delete a row by right clicking on a row and selecting Delete Rows.

The error does not occur when I add new items to a list in the Datasheet view by clicking on one of the dropdown menus at the top of the list (such as New, and selecting New Item; or Actions, and selecting New Row). Using these options works fine for adding new rows, but I see no way now to edit or delete existing rows.

The problem seems to have developed sometime in the past few weeks.
I'm using Internet Explorer 7 with Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

Can not link from MS Access to SP admin lists

We have WSS3. I am a site collection admin. The SP server is at remote location at our vendor.

I can link from MS Access to all the cusom lists - lists created by users.

I can not link from MS Access to the admin lists, for example the Site Hierarchy list. This is https://mysite.com/_layouts/vsubwebs.aspx

I know this is a LIST. It has columns Site URL, Title, etc.

I need Read only access. How can I do it?

Problems with access to external lists in SharePoint 2010

Our environment is SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and SQL server 2008 R2.   We have External lists that access a local database in SharePoint SQL Server. When new lists are added and permissions are given in the SharePoint Central Administration the domain users had to be in the Windows administration group to access the lists.   Recently in the same environment the domain users were removed from Windows Administration user group and could access the external lists.   In another similar test server we found adding the domain users to Windows Administration does not give the new domain users access to External lists.   The inconsistency is the issue. Has anyone seen this issue or provide a possible solution?

Unable to Customize Custom Lists. Sharepoint Error: User cannot be found.

I am not sure what the best way to put/describe my issue . I am unable to customize my custom list. Steps: 1. Login to sharepoint site. 2. Site Actions -> Site Settings 3. Under Site Administration -> Site Libraries and lists 4. Clicked on a custom list.   Error: Error User cannot be found.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 4063bf58-9cb7-4204-8cc4-cc2889abffe3 Date and Time: 9/9/2010 5:51:58 PM   I figured this may be an issue with site permissions, so I have went into site permissions and removed and re-added Administrator into Homeowners group.   Thank you in advance.   Howie

Sharepoint 2010: Get error: You do not have permissions to have lists and pages within My Site.

I am using the administrator login for the sharepoint 2010 farm.  I'm able to access My Site.  However, when I click on My content, I'm getting You do not have permissions to have lists and pages within My Site.   Any ideas?   Thanks.

Error message in opening a view after Replication server restored

Hi, Yesterday Replication was broken as Publisher was down. After it was restored, I tried to open a view in Subscriber and I get the following error message [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] Login failed for user 'Repl admin'   Any suggestions to get around this problem.   Thanks in advance -Jaya

Is it possible for a sharepoint VIEW to aggregate multiple TASK LISTS?

I have a few TASK LISTS, each with identical structure, that can't be combined initially, based on the groups that control the task lists.  ALL Task Lists reside on the same SITE.  I would like to find a way to "UNION JOIN" multiple task lists under a single Tasks List VIEW, if that can be done.  Alternately, is there a WEB PART that can do this?

Is there a way to merge multiple similar-structured task lists within a single site - and if so, how would it be done?

"More" option for Summary view on lists

I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post this question or if it's more of a design question but...

I noticed with 2010 that when lists such as announcements and links get beyond a certain quantity that the Summary view within the webpart shows a "More" link even if the webpart is set to only show say 5 items.

I've checked the XSL stylesheets and can't find any entries that would specify to show the More link once a list grew to a certain point. I've also checked the web part, list, and view settings to no avail. Any suggestions?

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Access Denied Error Message from Custom Webpart

I am new to MOSS so can anyone please help me to solve this problem.

I've a list in MOSS-2007, and a group of people with Read Only Rights so they cannot change any list item. But I want to give them access to edit one column (i-e Comments) in that list.

So I created a custom web part page and put a comments text box in it. At DispForm.aspx page of list there is a link which redirects to Custom page for adding comments and I am passing Item ID in query string.

But the problem is that when anyone adds the comment on custom page an ACCESS DENIED message appears. I've even set "web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true" but didn't work

                SPWeb web = SPContext.Current.Web;
                SPList lstTIX = web.Lists["ListName"];

Sharepoint Foundation - Create and deploy custom edit/view forms for external lists

Firstly, we are using sharepoint foundation so Infopath forms are not an option for us.

We have a Visual Studio sharepoint project which deploys a complete sharepoint site. The site contains a number of external lists and we want to be able to create customised view/edit forms for these lists and add them to our Visual Studio project so they can be deployed as part of the new site. The idea is that we can deploy the solution to a fresh site with a default set of forms which can then be customised for different implementations of the site.

Here's the steps we have been using to try and do this:

1. Deploy the base project (BDC) to the sharepoint site

2. Create external lists based on the BDC content types

3. Use Sharepoint Designer to create new edit/view forms for the lists and set these as the default forms for the list

3. Save the site as a template

4. Import the template into a new Visual Studio project and select the lists we require. This gives us a List Definition, a pages module (with element file), an elements file and a schema file (both for the List Instance).

5. We then add the contents of the imported project to our main solution as follows:

  • Create a new List Definition (including List Instance)
  • Copy the contents of the imported Elements.xml to the Elements file for our List Instance.

Cross Access to Lists

I have lists in my teamsite A. Under the teamsite I have other teamsites (B and C) with lists.

Is it possible to have access from teamsite A to the lists in teamsite B or C ?

Thanx and regards

http://machinename:Portno/_vti_bin/lists.asmx throwing error

Hi All

I am facing with this following error when i access http://machinename:Portno/_vti_bin/lists.asmx. [SharePoint server 2010], all other web services are accessible

The top XML element 'string' from namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/' references distinct types Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapXml.SoapXmlElement and System.String. Use XML attributes to specify another XML name or namespace for the element or types.

Any help please.

error message on clicking a specific view

Hi there,

Please find below the description of my problem:

When I click on a view(eg. Doc Type/Sub Doc Type in our case), I am shown the error message "<!-- #RENDER FAILED -->". Basically what we do is a migration of data(mostly documents) from Webdocs to Sharepoint. So each Business Unit that we migrate has variable item count as 750, 2500, 13000 and so on. There is no problem with Business Units(BU) having, say less than 2000 items in Doc library, but for BUs more than this item count we get this error msg.Is there a workaround for this?. Also I've tried to limit the no. of items shown and other options but in vain.

Silverlight access SharePoint Workspace offline lists

Is it possible to access SharePoint Workspace data from a silverlight out-of-browser application?

We need to have data offline and be able to sync it back later on. Data is stored in external lists and we want to be able to read and write to the external lists offline from a more user friendly GUI such as a Silverlight application. Infopath forms can not do the advanced GUI things we want to do, therefore it is not an option.

Can not access SharePoint Lists from ASP.NET web application

I don't know if this is the right place for this but is related to SharePoint.

using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://server/siteName/"))
       if (site != null)
         using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
           foreach (SPList myList in web.Lists)

Example this code above:

I connected remotelly on the server, and in VS 2010 created a new ASP.NET Web Site. Added a new .aspx page and in code behind in the Page_Load event handler i put the code above. (lbLists is a ListBox on the .aspx page).

When i run this page and try to see the results in browser it doesen't work!!

The same code works perfectly on a windows form application!! What is the reason why it is not working?

It ment to not work? How can i make a web application (ASP.NET) that i can access a SharePoint site programmatically and display the items?

Then i want to deploy this app and run it in browser.
