cannot see Give Group Permissions to this site

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I often need to create sharepoint groups in MOSS 2007. I go to the site, site settings-people and group, and in the new menu- click new group, then in next page, sometime at the bottom of the page the last item:

Give Group Permission to this Site

But sometimes, I cannot see that, the last one is

Membership Requests

Why is that?

I do need it shows the give group permission to this site, so that I can assign rights to group.

In Sharepoint 2007 while creating a group "Give Group Permission to this Site" section is missing

I have a strange anamoly in Sharepoint 2007 but I am guessing I am missing some minor step since I am new to Sharepoint. I am trying to create a new group which I have done before successfully. 1.On the home page of the site,  I click Site Actions, point to Site Settings, and then click People and Groups. 2.On the New menu, I click New Group. 3.Type a name for the group, and then type a brief description of the group's attributes in About Me. 4.I change the owner of the group or click Browse to find an individual's account name. 5.In the Group Settings section, I click the options to specify who can see the members of this group and who can add or remove members. 6.In the Membership Requests section, I click the options (No, No) and no email address entered Here is the problem part: I am supposed to see  the "Give Group Permission to this Site section"  but I see only Create and Cancel buttons.   Can you please help why I do not see  "Give Group Permission to this Site section". Is there another way to assign group permission?

How to get the permissions of a user or group that has "Limited Access" to a site

For a user or group that has "Limited Access" to a site, I'd like to be able to find all of the libraries, documents, etc that that user or group has been given permissions to.  I believe that I could accomplish this by iterating over all of the lists of the site, and then over all of the list items of each list, and checking if, for that list or list item, inheritance is broken and that user or group has been granted access.  However, I am hoping there is a cleaner, quicker alternative in which I don't have to iterate over all of the site content.

If that's not possible, I may be able to accomplish mostly what I need if I could find all of the site content which has unique permissions (and then simply iterate over that content to see if the user or group has been given permissions).

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Site Administrator cannot assign user or group to pictures library or to any library permissions pag

I have number of Mysites and in each mysites i have given same user has site administrator. I observe that in few Mysites, Site administrator user, though got full control permission, cannot assign users or groups to picture library or any library in the library permissions page. We see only few options in tool bar of the library (i.e no UPLOAD menu etc) where as in other mysite for the same user we can do what ever we want to.

Would anybody please let me know what the cause for this behavior?

How to check effective permissions for a user or group for a SQL server object or whole server?

Guys, How do I see effective permissions for a user or group for a SQL server object or whole server? For example, a user is not listed in security/logins, but he is a member of few groups and some of them have assigned permissions on SQL server (again either directly or through membership in other groups) Even when I select an object (a table), check properties/permission – it doesn’t let me select any principal, except those listed on security/logins… Anyway, what is the right way to see effective permissions for a user or group? Sorry for asking such a simple question, I’ve searched but found nothing relevant.

Customized list views and permissions to specific group users

Hi, I have created a custom list with 20 field/columns in wss3.0. I had four user groups(group1, group2,....3.....4) in my site collection with various levels of permissions. I have created four custom views (Group 1 view, Group2 view,...etc)in my list. Each view contains only certain fields out of 20. For example group 1 view contains field 1, 5, 7,10 and 13 of every item in my list.  My requirement is that when a user login, who is a member of group1. he should be able to view only Group1 view fields. He should not able to view other field/columns. I tried creating another field/column called as restricted users and wrote group names in that. In the View edit page I selected " show item when the column 'restricted users' is equl to [Me]. But I did not get it. Kindly help it out any one either programmatically or UI based. Thanks

Changing default permissions for Owners group

When a site is created within SharePoint (and permissions are not inherited from the parent), a default Owners, Members and Visitors group is created.  The default Owners group is assigned "Full Control".  I want this to default to a custom permission level that I have created called "Full Control - Limited".  What changes do I need to make to ensure that all new Owner groups are automatically assigned this custom permission level and NOT "Full Control"? EDIT - I have a console application which sweeps through all of the sites and changes all "Full Control" to "Full Control - Limited" but I really don't want to set a Scheduled Task each night to fix the new groups.

File not found error when trying to open site permissions on a blog site

We have created a simple team site and a block subsite.  When trying to edit the site permissions we see the following error.  Any ideas? When opening a blog site and clicking Site Actions - site permissions we received a new page with the following error: Error File Not Found Troubleshoot issue with Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Correlation ID: 51b54786-f344-4474-b88e-3080c363693 Date and Time: 3/24/2010 3:03:38 PM

A has read only permissions and B has full control permissions. one user is in both the groups. If the document library have permissions to both the groups, which permisssions the user will get. Read only or full control? ThanksBest

New Document Library in a subsite is inheriting permissions from wrong site

I have a site collection (using the out-of-the-box Business Intelligence site template) called "BI Home". A couple weeks ago I created a bunch of subsites (Finance, Regulatory, Marketing, etc.) all using the BI site template, and then created a Document Library called "Reports" in each one of those subsites. Those are all working as expected. Yesterday I needed to create a new subsite (again, a BI site just off the root site collection) called "Operations". I created the subsite, and then created the "Reports" document library underneath it.  When I went to modify the permissions of the new document library (located here: /Operations/Reports), it said it was inheriting permissions from it's parent: "BI Home".  Why would this be?  Shouldn't the parent be "Operations" ?? All my other sites' "Reports" folders are inheriting permission from their respective parent, but any new sites I create seem to have this issue. Thanks in advance for any insight someone may provide! [SharePoint 2010 RTM on Win2k8R2 using SQL 2008R2 RTM on Win2k8R2]

Programmatically(WSS Web Services) Inheriting Parent Site Permissions for Workspaces

I'm able to create meeting work spaces in Sharepoint 2007 using the WSS web services. This issue that I'm running into is that the default is not inheriting permissions from the parent site. I'm looking for a way to configure this option for the work space programmatically through the use of the WSS web services. I've tried changing this in the template that I'm using to create the workspace, but this does not seem to effect the end results.Regards,Timothy H

Set execute permissions for web site at web host

Hi all,    I have just succeeded doing a Publish to server from my local sql db and run the sql script on my web host's sql server 2005 db. (I'm very proud! :-)   )   Now, I get the dreaded The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'MyStoredproc', database 'db12345', schema 'dbo'. error. I can't set the permissions from within Visual Studio, can I? What should I ask the web host to do? a) Should I ask them to globally set execute permission on ...? b) Should I ask them to set execute permissions to ... for only INSERT/DELETE/UPDATE stored procedures? c) Should I ask them nothing, and handle this myself? If so, then how? And, the question remains, should I set execute permissions globally or on a per stored proc basis? And what's the name of the user who needs the property set correctly? The reason why I ask these questionsis that I used to work with winfomrs at a university. There people should have different permissions depending on what group of users they belonged to. In this instace I have no idea!   Muchos gracias in advance, Pettrer, Sweden

Is there a way to obtain where in a sharepoint site a certain security group is used?

There is a sharepoint group that has been set up and is used throughout a single sharepoint occurance with many team sites and lists. It has orginated from AD and sent over to sharepoint with collection. The want to rename the group name. I have used it throughout the site. Is there a way to identify what sites and lists have been secured with this site so I do not have to go manually through site by site? Thanks, Angela

Setting sql permissions for web site visitors

Hi all, I have my SqlServer 2005 database at a web host. I recently figured out how to set permissions for the stored procedures (see this link if you face the same problem: http://forums.asp.net/t/1600637.aspx) . Now I wonder: What permissions should I give the web site's visitors? In a stored procedure's Properties window, I have three availabale users, the db owner (the db name), "guest" and "public". My bet is on public.  As far as permission types go, I hev the following available: Alter, Control, Execute, Take Ownership, and View Definition. My guess is that the one of interest is Execute, correct?   In other words, should I set all stored procedures to Execute for public (not that I seem to have the permission to do that myself - I get an error message when I try to alter them)? If so, could I ask the web host to set them globally for me? Or should I only set stored procedure using UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE to Execute?   Thanks a lot for any replies, Pettrer

Adding a group while inheriting permissions

Hi all, I was wondering if its possible to create a group that only exists within a subsite, while still inheriting permissions, For example, I have a subsite named Child that currently inherits permissions from its parent site Parent.  Is it possible to create an Owners group only within Child that allows people to make changes exclusively to Child while at the same time continuing to inherit permissions from Parent? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Meetings.asmx web service to inherit parent site permissions

I am using the Meetings.asmx web service to create a sub site.  Unfortunately this does not provide a mechanism to inherit parent site permissions, it just creates a sub site with unique permissions which is not what I want.   In order to inherit the parent permissions I am using the Permissions.asmx.  Can someone please provide some sample code on how to do this, I tried various mechanims through the Permissions.asmx but does not seem to be able to get it right.
