Creating a Template

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Created a site I really like for action plan tracking. Want to save as a template to use for each project. When I go to Site Actions - Site Settings I do not have an option in my "Look and Feel" section to "Save site as template" as I am told I should.

Anyone know why this might be missing from my list? Is there another way to save a site as a template?

creating different sub page design template in sharepoint website

I know very little about sharepoint and have outsourced the design of a master page and sub page design for a new website using sharepoint. i received a site master file with all of the necessary images and the home page works just fine. However the file i received for the sub page design template was an ASPX file with the following instructions:

Here I enclosed the inner page layout file. You upload this file by using following instructions. you can change & edit the blue menu section in the master page itself. If I change into modifiable section you need to add the menu in each and every page, otherwise it will show as empty block. Please let me know your comments.

Steps for uploading inner page layout page.

1.Select the Site Actions button and click on Site Settings->Modify All site settings

Dynamically creating Gridview Template - Linkbutton Click not working

I have written some code to dynamically generate template columns for gridview which works well. However, each cell in the gridview has to be a linkbutton, which when clicked does a db update and redirects to a specific url with some parameters in it.

I have attached a click event handler to the linkbutton in the InstantiateIn method but the event does not seem to fire.

Could someone please help? the code is below -

Creating a volume control slider/setting one template property based on another

So, what I want to do, is to make a volume control that looks like a right angle triangle with the 90 degree angle on the bottom right, and then when you click on it, the area to the left of the selected point is shown in a different color.  In other words, I've created a slider with the right background, what I can't do, is work out how to show the selected area by filling in the triangle.  I have worked out how to bind the height of my triangle on the left to the value of the control, but right now, the rate of rise is exactly half of what I need it to be.  I need to know how to change the template for the area to the left of the selection ( which is the repeat button ) so that the background is twice the height that it is right now.  No matter what size I make the slider, the area is always 1/2 the size it needs to be, so I am sure if I could get it to double inside my template, it would work fine. <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"     xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml">       <Style x:Key="SliderButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type RepeatButton}">         <Setter Property="SnapsToDevicePixels" Value="true"/>         <

namespace of fields problem when creating form template from xml?

I created a form template from a predefined xml, where I do not have any namespace. Later I added more fields. The output xml of the form is for the fields from the xml they have not prefix, for those added later, they have prefix my. I already have them all done. How can I make them consistent to have prefix my? Is there any options in InfoPath to turn on or off the prefix my?   thanks,

Custom Email Alert template creating links to DispForm.aspx

I have a requirement to customise the alert template for a standard blog post list. To do this I: 1. Created a copy of alertstemplate.xml 2. Copied the genericList alert template node and customised 3. Registered the new template file against the site collection, iisreset and finally assigned the new Alert template to the list, when alerts are created the custom template is emailed. The problem now arises that the 'View <Post Title>' in the toolbar section now creates a hyperlink to http..../Lists/Posts/Dispform.aspx?ID=xx rather than post.aspx. I have checked using sharepoint designer that the list supporting files has the correct display item form of Lists/Posts/Post.aspx. Additionally if I reset the alert template for the list back to use the Generic list template the same problem still occurs so this leads me to believe it is not the customisations that are the problem. Code used to assign the alert template to the Posts list: var ats = new SPAlertTemplateCollection((SPWebService) site.WebApplication.Parent); var newTemplate = ats[alertName]; if (newTemplate == null) { // We did not find the specified Template. throw new Exception("Failed to find template SPAlertTemplateType.NewsPost in the template collection."); } list.AlertTemplate = newTemplate; list.Update(); Any assistance will be most welcome, thanks in advance. Creating a generic template writer that can handle drop downs and option lists

Saving site as an template, and, creating new site with the saved template.

What is the process to save site as an template and create new site collection using the saved template?

Creating a template from site causes loss of translations

Good day all,

I am using the MUI in Sharepoint 2010 to allow users to choose between English and French on our site. I created a very basic site (just to test my question) on which I created one custom list. I added some columns(bread, cheese, ham chicken), switched the language to french and manually changed the columns to their french equivalents (pain, fromage, jambon, poutlet). Changing the language back and forth causes the column titles to change also accordingly.

However, when I save the site as a template, either with or without the content, only the english versions of the columns are saved into the template. Have anyone run into this before? Any workarounds? I also tried creating the template while in the french version but it didn't make any differnce.

I read a bit about being able to do bulk translations and multilingual term sets, I will try these and post back if I get any results.

Creating a dynamic site using custom template programmatically.

I have sites like

I have created Project1 as Template (Save as Template) and this template is available at http://kashyap Site Gallery > Solutions

http://kashyap/Team has a list called projects. I want to do custom workflow which is run by user manually(It is not problem). I want to create site programmatically  based on the template. I did some code Its

 private void codeCreateSite_ExecuteCode(object sender, EventArgs e)
      SPWeb web = workflowProperties.Web;

      SPListItem lst = workflowProperties.Item;
      string title = lst["Project Title"].ToString();
      string url = Common.UrlString(title);
      string desc = "Project from " + Common.GetFormatedValue(Convert.ToString(lst["Customer"

Creating a Site Column that Looks up an External List causes error when saving site as a template.

I'm not sure what the best practice is here, but I'm having a major issue trying to save sites as templates and I think I narrowed it down as to what the issue is.

When I try to save a site as a template, it creates the solution package, but it doesn't activate it.  When I try to activate it manually, I get the following error:

Feature definition with Id e9431ed5-27b1-4c33-9eeb-81b4ace9d372 failed validation, file 'test1ListInstances\ElementsFields.xml', line 481, character 231: The 'SystemInstance' attribute is not allowed.

I opened up the solution package and looked at the ElementsFields.xml file.  I traced the line to this:

<Field Type="BusinessData" DisplayName="Acme People Name" Required="FALSE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Group="Custom Columns" ID="{55b3bbba-a7e3-4698-9946-648a6b726e9e}" SourceID="{026904fd-f2d0-4e57-a239-c6da838458fa}" StaticName="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" Name="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" SystemInstance="ACME" EntityNamespace="http://????????:28241" EntityName="People" BdcField="FullName" Profile="" HasActions="True" SecondaryFieldBdcNames="0" RelatedF

Creating custom site template from a site that has a subsite - issue

  1. We created a Report Center site (a subsite) inside our site and then saved the site as a custom site template (including content). When we create the site out of this template, the site does not include the Report Center subsite. Can someone explain why?
  2. The report center was created for Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and we had published those KPIs on the parent site. We were hoping the any site created with our custom site template would show the KPIs. But we see only the KPI web part on the new site (created from our custom site template) without any KPI data. The reason is obvious because the data was coming from the Report Center subsite that does not get created by our custom site template. How do we accomplish this task via a custom site template?
