I am in a new company now and my machine has SQL Server 2008 installed. The only problem is, from what I am told, none of the machines here have a local instance installed, just connections to external instances such as a development and production environments.
Without having the installation disc, is it possible to install a local instance on my machine without raising any red flags? If so, can you please provide the steps involved? Also would anyone know why a company would not want a local instance installed on
a machine? It makes no sense because live data can still be accessed at external sources. Thanks in advance for any help.
