SSIS Dynamic Connection Provider

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am working on SSIS 2008. My requirement is that I need to connect to SQL Server or Oracle datbase in lookup, but I will get to know this at runtime whether its SQL Server or Oracle. So one option is to create separate connection for each and use separate lookups. But my question is can I use only one connection and one lookup and achieve this? I short can I can change oledb connection provider at runtime?

Can not get excel connection when calling an SSIS package from ASP

I have an SSIS package importing data from excel. I have coded it and deployed it on the sql 2008 server. I then execute it via a stored procedure with the following: select @cmd = 'C:\"Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /sq "HRIS"' select   @cmd = @cmd + ' /SET \Package.Variables[User::path].Properties[Value];"' + @path + '"' exec   @rtn = master..xp_cmdshell @cmd   This works fine when  i execute it on my local machine. But when I try to call this Stored proc from my asp app (classic asp, not .net) I get the error: Code: 0xC0202009 Source: HRIS Connection manager "SourceConnectionExcel" Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Unspecified error". SSIS Connection Configuration

Hello,   I have a bunch of packages that use different connections. I would like to put all these connections in the a sql config file and use only the needed connections for that package when executing. Right now when I run a package that doesn't use all the connections in the config table I get errors for all the other connections.   I would like to keep all the connections in one table for easy management, is this possible and even if the package does not use all the connections.   THanks, J

SSIS Excel Connection Manager Data Type Conversion Issues with SS Agent Job

Hi All! I have an issue I've been trying to fix but can't seem to figure it out. I was hoping a kind person would point me in the right direction. :o) I have an SSIS package that uses an excel connection manager source, and I want to run this package through a job scheduled in the SQL server agent. The data types for the excel file fields are 2 (DT_WSTR) and 5 (DT_R8). When I run the package directly through the SSIS package (VS solution) all of the data fields are properly imported into the database table. But...when I run this package through the SQL server agent job, ONLY the string (DT_WSTR) fields in each row are being imported, all of the float fields are imported as NULL. I set the data types for these float fields as "float" in the SQL server import table (data type). Even though the excel source float fields are indicating a type of DT_R8 in the excel connection manager and I set the data types in the SQL server table to "float", I also used the data conversion component and set the type to "float" as a fail-safe. I guess I should add to that the data access mode in the excel connection manager is using a custom code to select only those columns that I needed and to trim rows that I didn't need. Here's my code that I have in the excel source editor: select f1, f2, f3, f5, f6, f7, f8 from [mdo$] where f2 <> 'Rep Name'

Hello,Please bear with me as I am no Sql Server guru, but am getting this error that is preventing me from continuing with my development work.  I am the only developer on my team running Sql Server 2005 and it has been working just fine for the last week.  I opened the Management Studio this morning, just like every other morning and got this error:TITLE: Connect to Server------------------------------ Cannot connect to (local). ------------------------------ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) Of course the help page says no help is available.  I have googled myself sick and still have not found a way so resolve this...has anyone else had this error and/or a fix?  I am using XP Pro SP2...any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!Steph

SSIS issue with dynamic excel sheet name

Hi Team, I am creating a Excel file dynamically using a script, excute sql and then the dataflow. I am not able to cretae a excel sheet name without an underscore exisitng file: "team data" even though am giving the table name in excute sql task(which is excel sheet name) as "team data" it is creating the name as "team_data" because of which the package is failing? I am able to achieve this with an underscore, as it is a client requirement to generate wihtout an underscore am posting this question. Is this an issue with Sql server 2005? Thanks, Eshwar

Implementing Transaction in SSIS Package - [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "<

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server. When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good. Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error. [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection. "NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server. Please respond if anyone has any solution. Thanks! Anand

SSIS 2008 - Excel Source using SQL Connection cancels as soon as package runs.

Let me preface this by saying I'm brand-new to SSIS development. I'm using 64-bit SSIS 2008 and I'm trying to read an Excel spreadsheet using OLE DB. I've already run into and corrected the Run64BitRuntime problem.  Now when I invoke the Package it cancels immediately with the following output: SSIS package "Lesson1X.dtsx" starting. Information: 0x4004300A at Data Flow Task, SSIS.Pipeline: Validation phase is beginning. SSIS package "Lesson1X.dtsx" finished: Canceled. The program '[5400] Lesson1X.dtsx: DTS' has exited with code 0 (0x0). When I edit the Excel Source component itself there are no errors and I am able to Preview the results successfully.  If I use Table or View to access the file, the package runs successfully. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Framework 2.0 changes - TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the r

If you connect to a server and open a query in SQL Managment studio (2005) and looses connection and then regain the connection, when you try to run the query it gives me a "TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."
This happens against both 2005 and 2000 servers.
If I re-run the query it works.
However, this happens in our VB.NET app as well for clients with Wireless connections.
So, something has changed in Framework 2.0 regarding this, does anyone know how to tell the client to not throw this error and just try connecting the server instead which will work?

Issue with Connection of Sybase in SSIS and Linked Server in SQL Server

Iam having problem connecting with Sybase from SSIS or Link Server of SQL Server 2008.

I have installed Sybase 12.5.1 OLE DB Driver and have also registered by running command:

 C:\sybase\DataAccess\OLEDB\dll>regsvr32 sybdrvoledb.dll

We are also able to create System DSN from ODBC Administrator in Windows 7. I am also able to import data in the MS Access. Here is the System DSN I created, successfully.

I would really appreciate you can help us out.

Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

This was originally posted in the SSIS Forum, but a member of the IS team suggested it be moved here.  "Most recently I got this error (Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) so does this mean that SQL Server is still trying to use named pipes even if I only have TCP/IP enabled in SQL Server Configuration Manager?"

I'm having the same issue, and here's our scenario:

  1. Installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a machine with WinXP SP2 and enabled remote connections over TCP/IP
  2. Installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a machine with Win2003 SP1 (remote connections over TCP/IP enabled by default)
  3. Attempted to 'Copy Database' from Developer Edition TO Standard Edition using 'Detach and Attach' method and recieved the error on the Win2003 machine: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

Another dynamic SSIS question

I'm seeking just a simple yes or now as to whether this can be done, and if so - a gentle nudge as to what approach to take.

The business problem is that our organization has used SQL Server as the data warehouse after a pretty intense ETL process that runs overnight. We recently acquired a Netezza appliance to interfact with Siebel (or Oracle BI), and I'm trying to create a process by which there nightly copies of the DW database in SQL Server over to Netezza.  All of this is simple to manually, but the requirements call me for me to create a metadata table of tables that are to be included in nightly and intra-day hourly updates.  This metadata table has the name of each table, the key data field for gettin recent transactions from Fact tables for hourly updates.

Based on input from our Netezza advisor, Netezza can handle up to six syncronous packages running at at a time.  For each scheduled task, the package would look at the metadata table for a list of tables, and use sys.all_columns to build up the package details.  Fortunately, the name of the tables and fields are identitcal from SQL Server to Netezza, and I've created a .Net page that allows developers to specify new tables they've created and the corresponding key date field that creates the Netezza DDL language to create the table and make data type translations.

Setting Membership/Profile/Role provider's connection string at runtime...?

How can I set the connection string for the built-in membership, profile and role providers at runtime?

Since each site in our multi-site application uses a separate API to retrieve its specific connection string (via key, for security purposes), I cannot set the connection string to my providers in the web.config file. I need to be able to set the connection strings programmatically at runtime, but I cannot find how to implement this.

I thought many people must have run into this problem, but I can't seem to find anything regarding this. Can anyone here help me with this problem?
