How to setup properties with a SQL Table?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a SQL Table with 2 columns, a type and a value, how can I set something up where the property is the type and the value can be set by the user?  Do I basically just go through every item in the table (only 20 rows) and make a property for each one such as:

Public Shared Property SettingsRow1() As Integer
Return ' call the database here for the info?
        End Get
        Set(ByVal value As Integer)
' call the update query in here?
        End Set
    End Property

Is this the right way to do it? is there a better way? what about performance?

How to setup db diagram to automatically insert username into table?

I have a table setup in the database for users who are basically going to create a classified listing.  How can I setup a diagram that would easily create a table relationship with the Users table, so that it automatically inserts the users username when they submit a new ad?  If so, how?  I've tried adding a UserName row to my table and creating a relationship with the Users table "UserName" row, but it wasn't accepting the relationship when I tried to save the diagram...apparently because the UserName row in the Users table isn't a primary key? Also, one this is setup, what's the best way to provide the user a way to see a list of their ads and have the ability to edit them?

Is there a way to set default style properties for a table or matrix?

We have a company standard we use for fonts, color, background, borders.

Is there a way to set the default font to say 8 pt (vs 10 pt) so that I do not have to change every textbox and column header when adding columns to a table?

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Insert value using Table Value Functions

a real gem in Sql Server 2008. mostly people still using Stored procedure may be they shifted to SQL Server but they are not using TVF right now.

WCF Tip: Using Properties in Service Contracts

you'll notice all of the Service Contracts are implemented with interfaces containing only methods. For the longest time I thought that's all that was supported, until I thought about it a little more. In C# land, properties are simply wrappers around a get method and set method, so why wouldn't we be able to use properties in a service contract? Well the answer is we can.

Using jQuery to Filter Table Rows

The project is using the .net GridView control, so I had limited control over the output HTML code. Still, I think this code can work for most tables. One thing to notice: you should use the class "filterable" on your table or on one of its parents for the code to work.
First, we need a text box:

RadioButton Groups, Table Rows And NamingContainers in asp.net

The RadioButtonList. Very handy for inviting users to select just one item from a list although because of the screen real estate it takes up, used less and less in favour of the DropDownList. In plain HTML, the browser knows to enforce the unique selected value amongst a list of radio buttons because they all have the same value for their name attributes.

RadioButton Groups, Table Rows And NamingContainers

(In which AJAX-enhanced CheckBoxes become more useful than RadioButtons but inheritance saves the day, and a simple RadioButton-derived control establishes the purpose of a control's naming container)

Building a 3-Tier App with Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Azure Table Storage

Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Windows Azure Services Platform makes a 3-tier Cloud application easier to build: Silverlight 3 as presentation tier, .NET RIA services as the business logic and data access tier, and Windows Azure Table as the data storage tier. The sample application in this article demonstrates the architecture with a simple Survey application with all these technologies working together from Windows Azure.

Automatic vs Explicit Properties

If the reason that motivated the change from automatically implemented property to explicitly implemented property was to change the semantics of the property then you should evaluate whether the desired semantics when accessing the property from within the class are identical to or different from the desired semantics when accessing the property from outside the class.

Dependency Properties

When you begin to develop appliations with WPF, you will soon stumble across DependencyProperties. They look quite similar to normal .NET properties, but the concept behind is much more complex and powerful

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

How to setup a Mobile Browser Emulator in Windows Mobile 6:

In the following tutorial, I cover the process of Setting up Windows Mobile 6 for Mobile Browser Emulation using the Microsoft Device Emulator. This enables a user to experience Windows Mobile 6 on a PC via Emulation without even owning a Windows Mobile 6 product. It can be a great way to test drive Windows Mobile 6 before purchasing a product with it installed. In our case, it allowed us to Emulate Windows Mobile Browsing so that we could optimize our sites for the Mobile viewing audience. Installation and Emulation is simple and fairly straight forward.

Import XML File to SQL Table

Here is a brief example of importing an XML file into SQL Server table. This is accomplished by using the BULK option of OPENROWSET to load the file, and then utilizing the XQuery capabilities of SQL Server to parse the XML to normalized table format. This example requires SQL server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.

First, the following XML is saved to XML file C:\Products.xml.

Xml File Methods and Properties

Method and Properties of XmlTextWriter class:
The XmlWriter class is a base class that outputs an XML data structure. It has methods to sequentially write XML elements in a proper hierarchy to create an XML file or other types of output streams. The System.Xml namespace provides support for the XmlWriter. It must be imported to the ASP.NET page with the directive

<%@ Import Namespace="System.Xml" %>

The XmlTextWriter

XmlWriter is an abstract class that is implemented as an extended XMLTextWriter class. The XmlTextWriter writes a sequence of XML nodes one element at a time. Output can be written to an XML file, although other streams of output data can be produced. It can create a new file or overwrite an existing file. Its non-cached writing techniques provides very fast generation of an output stream.
