Policy-Based Management and On Change - Prevent

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I’m working on Policy-Based management feature and I’m keen to implement some of the features. I tried to setup a Policy for a “backup device” facet based on the condition that the name starts with bkd_. I tried to set the evaluation mode to “On Change – Prevent” but unfortunately I could not find the mode at all in the Policy Screen. I also made sure the “Nested Triggers” advanced Option is set to 1.

I went through this  link http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlpbm/archive/2009/04/13/policy-evaluation-modes.aspx and checked for the execution_mode in  msdb..sysp

using policy based management to exclude database access

After reading information on the link http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1492 I was wondering whether its possible to have a policy in place such that database A cannot make reference to objects in database_B, I am guessing that one would have a policy such that the contents of the objects must not be like %database_B.%   Let me know whether there is a better way to do this. Thanks.

Policy based management : what rights do ##MS_PolicyTsqlExecutionLogin## need

Hi, In order to run Policies on scheduled basis, what permissions should I grant to ##MS_PolicyTsqlExecutionLogin## login? Problem is: When I evaluate the policies myself, they dont fail, but when I schedule them, they fail reporting ##MS_PolicyTsqlExecutionLogin## login doesn't have access to <> database. SQL Server 2008 R2 Enhancements to Policy-Based Management

I'm reasearching enhancements which have been made to Policy-Based Management in SQL Server 2008 R2.  I"ve found several articles and posts on PBM in general, but nothing that explicitly describes what enhancements have been implemented in SQL 2008 R2 which are not available in SQL 2008.  Does anyone know of any white papers or articles which discuss this?

Policy based management missing evaluation modes

For some reason, I only get the on demand and on schedule evaluation modes with my instance of SQL server, what is even more suprising is the fact that i am following a step by step guide and the guide seems to have the on change log only evaluation mode.

Is this a bug or something ?

I am using SQL 2008 SP1 developer edition, I get the same issue even on my standard edition.

Bug Tracker: Build a Configurable Web-Based Bug Management Tool Using ADO.NET, XML, and XSLT

One of the most significant features of ADO.NET is its integration with XML. Developers can either use an ADO-like API to access the data or work directly with an XML representation of the data. This article demonstrates how both of these techniques can be used together to create Web applications that take advantage of XML standards such as XSLT. The example presented here is a bug tracking application built using C# and the.NET Framework. The development of the application covers several topics including data access using ADO.NET, the presentation of data using XSLT stylesheets, and the integration of ADO.NET with the .NET XML Framework.

How do you change the datasource for a list based on another? ie a secondary list being a filtered

I'm actually using Sharepoint 2007, but am hoping this forum will help.  We want to be able to create a list based on a filtered view of another list.  I can create a Filtered List in Designer, but evidently this is saved as a query object on the server and not as another list that can be selected when using the basic Sharepoint tools.  In other words, it's only visible when in Designer.  This means that in order to use this for say a lookup column in another list object, I have to modify the datasource tags for the EditForm and NewForm.aspx pages within Designer.  Also, it means that adding a column would constantly require use of Designer.  We need this to be simple as not all those tasked with administrating pages will know how to do this.  I thought it would be easier if I could simply source a secondary list with the filtered list I created in designer.  In other words, make a secondary list source be that of a queried view of a master list.  Then this list could be used with all the simple tools provided.  Is this possible?  If so... how?

Change background colour based on data key change?

Hi there,I have a GridView with an alternating Css style. The GridView has a column called tradeId. What I want to show is an alternating colour based on a change in the tradeId. Is this possible? It will make it easier on the eye to group trades together by colour. Here's the GridView code as it is right now:<asp:GridView             ID="dtlEntryStats"             runat="server"             DataSourceID="sdsEntryStats"             DataKeyNames="tradeId"             AlternatingRowStyle-CssClass="alternating"            GridLines="None"             CssClass="gridView"            AutoGenerateRows="false"             AutoGenerateColumns="false"             AllowPaging="true"           &n

Where is 'Change query type' (Enterprise manager) equivalent in the Management Studio

In sql server 2000 Enterprise manager, there was a ‘Change Query type’ icon and on clicking it, it gave you the option of changing the current query to a

Insert into
Insert From
Create Table

I can’t seem to find this in SQL Server Management Studio, does it exist somewhere or is there an equivalent way of doing it. Any help would be appreciated.

Information Management Policy - Expiration not working

I've defined a new policy for my list.
The policy has expiration enabled.
The expiration date is WarningDate (required list field - date and time) + 0 days and the expiration should trigger the custom workflow, which would send the warning, but is now only setting the status to Warned.
The workflow works fine when executed manually, but never seems to be actually executed by the item expiration.

I've also updated the "information management policy" job to run every 5 minutes, but it didn't help.
What as I missing?

Policy Management ensure a table name is in the index name

I am trying to write some policies to enforce our coding standards.  One of the standards we have is to prefix indexes with IX_<tablename>; the IX_ is easy to do with the index facet.  How do you access the tables name in the condition?
Thanx, Adam

How to create a condition and policy to deny access based on host name

With SQL Server 2008 Enterprise, can I prevent an Active Directory Account Login ( domain\user ) from connecting if its coming from a host_name?

What I really need to do is this:

On SQL1, login mydomain\user1 is only allowed to login from servers APP2, APP3, and APP4.

If mydomain\user1, though it has a login on SQL1 attempts to connection any other hostname besides APP2, APP3 or APP4 I want to deny it access to SQL1.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct condition(s) for a policy that would work?
