Passing parameters of type List<> from a web application to the Receive activity of a workflow servi

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

I have a Recieve activity with the following parameters in the Content property.  Using generic parameter names here:

- parameter1 of type Object1 assigned to Parameter1 variable

- parameter2 of type List<Object2> assigned to Parameter2 variable.  Note - default value of Parameter2 variable = New List(Of Object2)()

- parameter3 of type Object3 assigned to Parameter3 variable

In my web application, I create a service reference and create a client as such:

SomeWFServiceClient client = null

 client = new
 List<Object2> listOfObject2 = new
 List<Object2> { new
 Object2 {Id=1, Name="SomeName"
, Type="Customer"
 }, };

client.ProcessSomething(Object1, listOfObject2, Object3);

I have a breakpoint at the Receive activity.  When I look at the values that get assigned to the Receive activity parameters, I see that parameter1 and parameter3 ge

The reason that I would like to consider this functionailty is because my table architecture is complicated and I do not want to modify my master table to accept all of this data where some of the data should be normalized into sub tables.  Has anyone see evidence of the stored-procedure parm approach?  Is this best accomplished through VS 2010 or can I do it through SPD? Thanks

Passing a reference of the workflow to an activity

It there a way to pass in a reference of a workflow into an activity that the workflow is running (as an inargument)  in the Workflow designer?

Workflow Service 4.0 with One Way Receive activity will not get fired when called by a console based client application. This service does get called when there's the default ReceiveRequest coupled with a SendReply activity in the service. However deleting the ReceiveRequest and SendReply Activities and replacing it with a one way Receive Activity causes the Workflow 4.0 Service to not get called. System.ArgumentException : The input workflow type must be an Activity.

Hi everyone! I’m getting this error when starting up the workflow:

System.ArgumentException : The input workflow type must be an Activity.
Parameter name: workflowType

The code I’m using is shown below:

using (var wf = new WorkflowRuntime())

  wf.WorkflowTerminated += (_, __) => signal.Set();

Custom Workflow TaskEditForm(Custom Content Type) not getting displayed in Tasks List.

I have developed a custom sequential workflow. I have also developed a custom content type derived from Workflow Task Content Type.

I have 1 TaskEditForm.aspx in this custom Content Type. The custom Content Type is getting associated with the Tasks List but when I click EditItem option in ECB Menu or Ribbon,the in-built EditForm.aspx gets displayed instead of displaying my custom TaskEditForm.aspx from the custom Content Type.

Can anybody help?

Workflow Constructor Error: Could not create activity of type '{Workflow}'

If I attempt to new-up a custom class in my Workflow constructor:

Workflow Error - Failed on Start (retrying) - Allow this list to receive e-mail? Yes

I have created a simple discussion board list with NO modifications to the fields or views.  I have turned on the option to allow new items to be created via email (Allow this list to receive e-mail? = yes).  In sharepoint designer I have created a simple workflow that sets a workflow variable (type string) to 'true'.  When I manually create a new discussion board item for this list, the workflow completes successfully; however, when I email in a new discussion board item, the item is created, but the workflow fails with the "Failed on Start (retrying)" workflow status.

The workflow is set to only fire when new items are created.

Workflow for External Content Type (Associated List) Gives Error

Hello Community.

Background: I have created an external content type, and then an external list from the content type.  Next I created a custom list with the same metadata fields as the external list.  All this works as it should with no issues.  Finally  created a simple 1 step workflow that is designed to update the external list with the data provided in the custom list.

Problem: When I run the workflow I get the error below:

The workflow could not update the item in the external data source. Make sure the user has permissions to access the external data source and update items. Unknown error

Has anyone seen this before and if so how did you resolve it?

Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on VS workflow designer

Referring to the post below. It seems that the current VS workflow designer only support "Activity" type as a root document. Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on next release of WF?

SQL Tracking Service XAML only (Type, Workflow and Activity db tables)

Ok, we've implemented workflow completely into our system now and I've starting to see the tracking database grow fairly quickly, which was expected

I am now working on a purge routine and or partitioning.

What I have noticed is that the Workflow and Type db tables will constantly grow no matter what.  They are not considered "partitioned" tables.

My main question is the architectural decision around this XAML only approach of tracking versus the code behind\beside approach.  I have a hypothesis I will present below.

In code behind\beside.

Passing Parameters through sub reports

I am trying to use a parameter field where there is a subreport in my main report but i keep getting the error "subreport cannot be shown" when running the report. Any ideas please.

p.s - I have just set the parameters the same in the subreport as the main report.

Passing report parameters by report viewer

I have 4 parameters in which 3 are passed in report and 1 is passed through report viewer. I have made a parameter in SSRS called CandidateId to which I want to pass the value. The code for report viewer is:

 intReportID = Convert.ToInt32(Request.QueryString["ReportID"
 CandId = Convert.ToString(Session["CandidateId"
lblReportName.Text = dtReport.Rows[0]["ReportName"
SSRSReportViewer.ShowCredentialPrompts =false

 SSRSReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = new
SSRSReportViewer.ProcessingMode = Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.

 SSRSReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new

SSRSReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportPath = dtReport.Rows[0]

 Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter[] theparams = new

theparams[0] = new
, CandId);
theparams[0].Visible = false

Attach Workflow to Task List, don't get option to manually start workflow via dropdown on task item

I am running WSS 3.0 with other workflows which are functioning correctly.  I created a new workflow in Visual Studio 2008 and was able to successfully run it in my dev environment.  I attached the workflow to a task list in my dev environment and was able to manually start the workflow by using the drop down workflow option and using the menus to manually start it.  I installed this workflow in our production environment and attached it to the task list (which had a SPD workflow attached to it which stopped working about a month ago).  I made sure that the option to manually start the workflow was checked.  When I tried to manually start the workflow, (hover mouse over title, drop down) there isn’t a workflow option.  The workflow also will not start automatically when a task is changed.

I attached this same workflow to a different task list in production and get the option to start it.

I have tried creating a small workflow in SPD 2007 and attaching it to the task list.  It shows that it is attached, when I look at the workflows that are attached to the task list, but I still don’t get the option to manually start it.

I have checked my security and I have fu

Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list

I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

Thank you,

Workflow field not being added to list or views when adding a workflow

This problem just started happening in my entire site collection.  Anytime I associate a workflow to any list or doc lib the Workflow column that shows the status and links to the history is not beind added to the list or any views and is nowhere to be found.   Here's exactly what I'm doing:

1.  Go the List settings -> workflow settings -> add a workflow (for this example the OOB approval workflow)

2.  After adding I go to the List, the workflow column doesn't exist.

3.  I go to "modify view", and the workflow column is not listed in the available columns.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
