Trouble with URL when creating new site from template

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Last year created I a site that I saved as a template so that I could create a new site for 2011 using the same site structure.  Now I've created the new site for 2011 but I can see I made a naming error in my old site, in that I put the year on a list name and this has now transferred to the new site.

Here is the URL from last year:  /LegWeb/2010/Lists/2010Bills/AllItems.aspx.  I should have named the list  "Bills"  instead of "2010Bills"  because now in my new site the URL looks like a mistake:  /LegWeb/2011/Lists/2010Bills/AllItems.aspx.

What can I do to change that URL now?

Creating a template from site causes loss of translations

Good day all,

I am using the MUI in Sharepoint 2010 to allow users to choose between English and French on our site. I created a very basic site (just to test my question) on which I created one custom list. I added some columns(bread, cheese, ham chicken), switched the language to french and manually changed the columns to their french equivalents (pain, fromage, jambon, poutlet). Changing the language back and forth causes the column titles to change also accordingly.

However, when I save the site as a template, either with or without the content, only the english versions of the columns are saved into the template. Have anyone run into this before? Any workarounds? I also tried creating the template while in the french version but it didn't make any differnce.

I read a bit about being able to do bulk translations and multilingual term sets, I will try these and post back if I get any results.

Creating a dynamic site using custom template programmatically.

I have sites like

I have created Project1 as Template (Save as Template) and this template is available at http://kashyap Site Gallery > Solutions

http://kashyap/Team has a list called projects. I want to do custom workflow which is run by user manually(It is not problem). I want to create site programmatically  based on the template. I did some code Its

 private void codeCreateSite_ExecuteCode(object sender, EventArgs e)
      SPWeb web = workflowProperties.Web;

      SPListItem lst = workflowProperties.Item;
      string title = lst["Project Title"].ToString();
      string url = Common.UrlString(title);
      string desc = "Project from " + Common.GetFormatedValue(Convert.ToString(lst["Customer"

Creating a Site Column that Looks up an External List causes error when saving site as a template.

I'm not sure what the best practice is here, but I'm having a major issue trying to save sites as templates and I think I narrowed it down as to what the issue is.

When I try to save a site as a template, it creates the solution package, but it doesn't activate it.  When I try to activate it manually, I get the following error:

Feature definition with Id e9431ed5-27b1-4c33-9eeb-81b4ace9d372 failed validation, file 'test1ListInstances\ElementsFields.xml', line 481, character 231: The 'SystemInstance' attribute is not allowed.

I opened up the solution package and looked at the ElementsFields.xml file.  I traced the line to this:

<Field Type="BusinessData" DisplayName="Acme People Name" Required="FALSE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Group="Custom Columns" ID="{55b3bbba-a7e3-4698-9946-648a6b726e9e}" SourceID="{026904fd-f2d0-4e57-a239-c6da838458fa}" StaticName="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" Name="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" SystemInstance="ACME" EntityNamespace="http://????????:28241" EntityName="People" BdcField="FullName" Profile="" HasActions="True" SecondaryFieldBdcNames="0" RelatedF

Creating custom site template from a site that has a subsite - issue

  1. We created a Report Center site (a subsite) inside our site and then saved the site as a custom site template (including content). When we create the site out of this template, the site does not include the Report Center subsite. Can someone explain why?
  2. The report center was created for Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and we had published those KPIs on the parent site. We were hoping the any site created with our custom site template would show the KPIs. But we see only the KPI web part on the new site (created from our custom site template) without any KPI data. The reason is obvious because the data was coming from the Report Center subsite that does not get created by our custom site template. How do we accomplish this task via a custom site template?

Error when creating a custom site template

In VS 2010, I created a new SP project to create a custom site template.

Repeating items in calendar break after creating a site based on a template

We have the following issue when using a calendar in a site that is based on a template.

We add a calendar to a blank site. This site we save as a template in the solution gallery.

We then create a new site based on a template. After creating a repeating item in the calendar list, the end date of the repeating item will be the end date of the repetition. So the new appointment is spread across 4 weeks for a repeating appointment that repeats for 4 weeks.

If you connect the calendar to Outlook the appointments are displayed correct.

Does anybody have similar results and can confirm this is a bug?

Error creating site template for publishing site

I am trying to create site template for publishing site in SharePoint 2010.

I have a publishing site and have created site template for the same using _layouts/savetmpl.aspx.

But when I tried to create site from that template in the same site collection it throws error, actually it creates the site but not able to set the home page as /pages/default.aspx. If I edit the url as http://<new site created>/pages/default.aspx the site is working fine.

The onet.aml for the site template is:

workflows when saving site as template with content

I have have a MOSS 2007 site on a production server with custom workflows.  I saved the site as a template with content and used the template to create a sibling site.  I am testing it and the workflows aren't working.  Is this to be expected? I have read that workflow don't work when saving between development and production, but I can't find anything that addresses both sites being on production. Will I need to recreate the custom workflows by hand?

creating different sub page design template in sharepoint website

I know very little about sharepoint and have outsourced the design of a master page and sub page design for a new website using sharepoint. i received a site master file with all of the necessary images and the home page works just fine. However the file i received for the sub page design template was an ASPX file with the following instructions:

Here I enclosed the inner page layout file. You upload this file by using following instructions. you can change & edit the blue menu section in the master page itself. If I change into modifiable section you need to add the menu in each and every page, otherwise it will show as empty block. Please let me know your comments.

Steps for uploading inner page layout page.

1.Select the Site Actions button and click on Site Settings->Modify All site settings

Is there a way to update the template of a site?

I am looking for a best practice for managing and applying site design changes.

For instance, in another platform, I could release a site for testing or production use, so content would be added.  At some later date, a change* to the design would be needed and I would take a copy of the design only, make the change and then apply the updated design to the existing site. Content would be maintained but the new design changes would be applied.

      *A change might mean creating new functionality on an existing element, adding new elements or changing an existing element.

How best should this be done in WSS?

Thank you in advance!

I have written some code to dynamically generate template columns for gridview which works well. However, each cell in the gridview has to be a linkbutton, which when clicked does a db update and redirects to a specific url with some parameters in it.

I have attached a click event handler to the linkbutton in the InstantiateIn method but the event does not seem to fire.

Could someone please help? the code is below -
