Help on displaying ReportViewer in a separate window

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello, I have a delimma and I wonder if anyone can suggest a solution:

I have a web app using SQL2008 R2 and VS2008, the reports are deployed to the report server, and in the app we have aspx pages where the user can select report criteria to run the reports, and when they are done selecting the criteria they click on the run report button and the report will be displayed in a separate aspx page which contains the reportviewer control. I use Server.Transfer() to display the reportviewer page because I need to use session to store the report criteria that the user selected (can't use URL parameters because the criteria can be quite extensive), and we don't want to cause the parent aspx page to postback.

The above works fine currently, but what our clients don't like is that the report is opened in a full browser window (with all of the address bar, toolbar, favorites, etc.), they really want the report page to open in a window with none of those stuff. One of the complaints is that they often mistakenly click on the printer icon in the browser toolbar instead of the one in the reportviewer control. I know how to open a window using javascript (window.open) and set the properties for the new window, but then I wouldn't be able to use session to pass the reprot criteria. Using Server.Transfer() or Repsonse.Redirect() would not let me customiz

Problem displaying a page using window.showModalDialog when resizing it.

Hi, I have a page that is displayed using window.showModalDialog, when the page is resized the tables, text boxes and everything else that is in the page with the width 100% doesn't resize (fit the page) unless a post back is used. How can I make the page keep everything in proportion when it is resized without the need to post back?

Does the ReportViewer control print button work inside of a modal MSIE window?

I am getting the following two error messages when using the new ReportViewer v10 control after pressing the toolbar print button. I am only seeing this error inside of a modal popup window in MSIE. The print button in a normal popup window doesn't have this error. An error occurred trying to get the current window Error: Could not complete the operation due to error 8007f305. If anyone knows of a quick fix, please let me know. Thank you. VS2010, MSIE 8, SQL Server 2008.

ArgumentNullException when displaying WPF window

We have recently upgrade our code base from .net 3.5 to .net 4.0. On one particular machine we are able to semi-reliably get the following exception in our application: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: d    at MS.Internal.Data.ElementObjectRef.GetObject(DependencyObject d, ObjectRefArgs args)    at MS.Internal.Data.ObjectRef.GetDataObject(DependencyObject d, ObjectRefArgs args)    at System.Windows.Data.BindingExpression.MS.Internal.Data.IDataBindEngineClient.VerifySourceReference(Boolean lastChance)    at MS.Internal.Data.DataBindEngine.Task.Run(Boolean lastChance)    at MS.Internal.Data.DataBindEngine.Run(Object arg)    at System.Windows.Threading.ExceptionWrapper.InternalRealCall(Delegate callback, Object args, Int32 numArgs)    at MS.Internal.Threading.ExceptionFilterHelper.TryCatchWhen(Object source, Delegate method, Object args, Int32 numArgs, Delegate catchHandler) Basically we have a WPF window, with a particular view model as the DataContext. That view model has an observable collection which is then displayed using an ItemsControl. The code below is vastly simplified, for obvious reasons, but I'll try to describe it as clearly as possible. class MyOuterViewModel { public ObservableCollection<InnerViewModel> InnerItems { get; private set ; } pri

ReportViewer displaying report in wrong orientation

Hi, We are developing an ASP.NET web application, and we're using VS2008 and SSRS 2008 R2 with server-side reports. We have a number of reports, some designed to be landscape and some in portrait. We have an aspx page containing the ReportViewer control, but when run, it seems the ReportViewer always displays the report in portrait, even for the landscape reports, but when printing it prints the report in the correct orientation as it's designed. The problem is that when shown in the ReportViewer it shows a different number of pages than when it prints. For example if the report is designed in landscape, the report viewer will say the report has 4 pages (because it displays in portrait), but when printed the report is actually 9 pages (because it's landscape). Our landscape reports are set to landscape, also the paper size and the Interactive size are both set to 11 inch in width and 8.5 inch in height. Is there a way to make sure the ReportViewer display the report in the correct orientation of the report as it's designed (so the page numbers will match when viewed and printed)?

Thank you.

Displaying SharePoint lists in Web Parts

When you create a built-in or custom list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Windows SharePoint Services creates a Web Part, a basic building block of a SharePoint site, to display that list. These Web Parts are called List View Web Parts. Windows SharePoint Services stores List View Web Parts in the site collection Web Part gallery. (The site collection Web Part gallery is the most central gallery of Web Parts for a work group. By default, the gallery name is the name of the site, such as "Our Team Site Web Part Gallery." )

Displaying Row Details Tooltip on GridView using JQuery

Continuing exploring JQuery! I decided to implement a feature to display some kind of details related to a row displayed on GridView. For example when displaying employees details on GridView some information might not fit in the GridView because it will make it huge and wide. These infomration can be diplayed as Tooltip. Or when you want to display a picture and some kind of formated text to be diplayed as tooltip when mouse hover on the image.

Using ASP.NET 3.5's ListView and DataPager Controls: Displaying Data with the ListView

Prior to ASP.NET 3.5, developers who needed to display a set of records could choose between the GridView, DataList, and Repeater controls. The GridView provides rich data features, but has a very boxy layout; the DataList and Repeater allow for a more flexible layout, but lack the "point and click" data features found in the GridView, DetailsView, and FormView controls. The ListView bridges the gap between layout flexibility and built-in data features.

This article, the first in a series of articles on the ListView and DataPager controls, looks at the ListView's many available templates and illustrates how to display data. Read on to learn more!
