Publish and test a WebMatrix web site using a Local Windows Server 2008

I am new to ASP.NET as well as to WebMatrix Beta Razor language.

I am trying to publish and test a Web Site from WebMatrix Beta IDE to a local Virtual Windows Server 2008 IIS Server.

I did install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 at my local Virtual Windows Server 2008 (using Web Matrix Microsoft Web Platform).

Everything works fine till I add a database table to my WebMatrix site.

When I add a database table and Publish to local Virtual Windows Server 2008 IIS Server my WebMatrix IDE

closes unexpectedlly without any error message.

Running my Web Site using WebMatrix IISExpress works fine.

Any help will be very appreciated...

How to find and test templates of a web site?

I am new to web site templates, and I know that templates are the base for the creation of web pages.

I have the task of testing hundreds of web pages from a web site.

If a web site (For example, www.microsoft.com) has 1000 web pages, how can I know what are the different templates used to design these 1000 web pages?

The idea is, the test cycle time can be reduced and the reliability on coverage can be more by testing these templates.

Once I know the templates, how should they be tested?

Can anyone please help me know answer to my question?

I googled to check solution to my question and found that, there are many articles on the net which explains how to create web pages from a template. But, my problem is, how do I know what templates are used to create hundreds of web pages in an existing web site (say, www.microsoft.com)

Also, can you please let me know if there are any links relevant to this so that, i can read through it to understand this better?

How to test a sharepoint site with lower permissions?

I finally got my site ready to go.  When I test it everything works fine with my Site Admin privileges.  So how do I see how well it works for someone with a lower permission level, such as visitor.

My site is part of a larger farm in a large corporate entity.  Users are established by the folks at HQ.  I'm using Sharepoint 2007.

So is there a test mode?  Or is there a way to create a fake user login at the local level?  Or anything else I might consider?

Deleting items simultaneously in two different site library

Hi experts,

I have create a workflow to copy item (documents)  in site A library to site B library, its worked fine when i run the workflow, both library can contains same documents.

But the problem is, i can't set the workflow to deleting both items. I create a delete item workflow but it doesnt work for both, it can only work for 1 library. Is there possibility for me to create a workflow that can delete both item when i run the workflow in designated library, for example, from Site A, i run a workflow to delete a document in Site A, which will delete in Site B too.

I have googled but i can't find the best way, might as well you familiar with the works and can guide me.

Thanks so much!

Deploying Publishing SharePoint site from development to test and production environment.

I have created a Publishing Site in SharePoint 2010, with pages created from custom page layouts, content types and Publish Content areas which I have created using SharePoint Designer 2010.

Also, I created custom Lists, Libraries and workflows in my development environment.

I want to replicate the site in test/production environment.

Can you please suggest me the best way to package all, along with custom site settings from development environment so that I can migrate small changes to test/ production environment later also without creating .wsp as I have access to SharePoint designer 2010 only.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Take a tour of your SharePoint site

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.

Tips to Improve Your ASP.NET Web site performance

ASP.NET has been developed with lots of features which makes developer life easy. Start from ViewState, PostBack, Server Controls , User Controls and etc. All of them can make your web development experience fun and easy, but improper use of them can cause your site performance slowdown. Most of the controls generate overhead to the client and server. Therefore in this article, I I will list out about things you can do and don't to improve your ASP.NET website performance.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 1 of 2

In this first part of the two part series, Steven covers the differences between Site and Application pages in SharePoint 2007, why each may be used in various circumstances, and prepares for the construction of a menu located application page. After a brief introduction he examines the concept of Site Pages and Application Pages separately in detail with supported screenshots.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 2 of 2

As the second article in a two part series, Steven examines the attributes and details of a SharePoint 2007 application page, including the construction and feature deployment of the same page based project. Since this is a WSS level objective, as opposed to MOSS, you will not need MOSS to work with the code included in this project. Windows Server 2003, WSS, and Visual Studio 2005 are all that is needed, with no additional add-ons. He provides a detailed analysis of each step involved in the creation and deployment of the project.

Adding Client-Side Confirmation When Deleting

The JavaScript confirm(string) function displays its string input parameter as the text inside a modal dialog box that comes equipped with two buttons - OK and Cancel (see Figure 1). The confirm(string) function returns a Boolean value depending on what button is clicked (true, if the user clicks OK, and false if they click Cancel).
