Make font size relative to container or browser size?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Is there any way to make font size a percentage of the size of either the parent container or the browser window viewport? Having fixed-width fonts inside variable-width containers is causing the layout to break.

Need more font size options in browser edit mode

Is there a way to have a different font size other than the drop down menu of Editing Tools > Format Text of: 8, 10, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 72 pt ?   As a designer, I feel handcuffed with just these options.

Detect Browser Screen Size??

Hi Everyone,  I need to detect the size of the user's screen for mobile devices (especially the BlackBerry). I've read a lot of pages that seem to refer me to the Request.Browser object, but I'm finding that this object doesn't have the correct values. For example, I have a BlackBerry and when I use the Request.Browser to get the screen size, it tells me it is 640x480. Well, I know it's not that big since an image of 300px wide just barely fits. Also, when I run on my desktop browser, it also says my screen is 640x480. I can assure you, it is not 640x480! ha!

  How does anyone reliably get the browser's screen size?? Do I have to revert to some kind of JavaScript? If so, where can I read more about it? Will it be any more reliable? Someone must have an idea about this. Thanks in advance!!

Make WCF use namespace prefixes to decrease message size

Is there a way for a WCF client to use namespace prefixes as much as possible, in the sake of decreasing message size. Here is a sample:  <s:Body u:Id="_3" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">    <ValidateRequest xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationServiceMessages">      <EmailList>        <EmailAddress xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationTypes">michael.logan@vita.virginia.gov</EmailAddress>        <EmailAddress xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationTypes">mike.logan@@vita.com</EmailAddress>        <EmailAddress xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationTypes">mike</EmailAddress>      </EmailList>      <ZipCodeList>        <ZipCode xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationTypes">90210</ZipCode>        <ZipCode xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationTypes">23838</ZipCode>        <ZipCode xmlns="http://www.company.com/xml/xsd/ValidationTypes">abcde</ZipCode>      </ZipCo

DatePicker calendar font size

Due to the fact that we have globally changed the TextBlock size, the DatePicker calendar does not display properly. The month at the top is too big and is getting cut off.   Is there a way to either override the font  size for the DatePicker to have its normal size or to directly set the size through a style? I tried this:   <Style TargetType="{x:Type CalendarItem}">     <Setter Property="TextElement.FontSize" Value="10"/> </Style>   But it didn't work. I could override the entire CalendarItem template but I'd rather not.

Bar-graph style - how to keep columns in relative height of size of "graph"

Hi, I need some input for this and imagined that someone else had seen something like it: I have a box, let's say a grid, where there are some bars in it. These bars could be rectangles in a ItemsControl. The grid has a fixed height and width - but the rectangles' height (and width) are set a from a collection of numbers. These numbers go from 0 to 200 - but in periods the numbers only go from 1 to 10. If I use absolute numbers, the rectangles will be tiny in height or width if the numbers are between 1 and 10 and the Grid is 200 in height and width. How do I make the size of these rectangles relative to the tallest one? I guess I could do some calculations 'behind the scenes' in code, but is that really necessary? Is there no other way? Thanks! --Anders

SSRS BUG? When a FontStyle expression is used in a report, the Browser Text Size setting overrides t

I have created a report that has the same font size for all the sections in the report. Some sections' fields use a FontStyle expression that changes the FontStyle between Normal and Italics conditionally. I run the report through the reportserver interface and the report looks fine. I run the report through the ReportViewer control and the the fields which use the FontStyle formula are overridden by the Browser's Page Text Size. Also, when I look at the inline HTML Style that's generated, the fields with the formula don't have a style, they are blank, while the fields with without a FontStyle expression have an inline HTML Style generated. And this is probably why the browser text size setting can override. This seems like a ReportViewer HTML render bug... Or is there a way around it??

Changing font size for all text in DataView webpart?

I'm in SharePoint designer. Would you know what class I need to change the font tag on to impact the size of font for the entire dataview? I've tried the DataFormwebpart, the webzone, the table. No luck. And when I change the ms-vh or ms-vb it only changes it it on the tr or td selected. I'm also not seeing an option inside the webpart properties. <table border="0" width="100%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" style="font-size: large"> Thanks.

Button height doesn't increase with larger font size

Hi, I've got a couple buttons in a StackPanel that aren't increasing when I increase the font size. I think it has to do with the VerticalAlignment but I'm not catching what's going on. Here is the xaml: <StackPanel Grid.Row="3" Grid.RowSpan="1" Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Name="stackPanel1" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Width="Auto" Orientation="Horizontal"> <Button Background="#FF7F3F96" BorderBrush="{x:Null}" Content="exit" FontFamily="Myriad Pro" FontSize="12" Foreground="White" Width="Auto" MinWidth="74" Margin="23,8,11,9" /> <Button BorderBrush="{x:Null}" Content="new" FontFamily="Myriad Pro" FontSize="12" Foreground="White" RenderTransformOrigin="-0.243,0.516" Width="Auto" MinWidth="74" Margin="11,8,11,9"> <Button.Background> <SolidColorBrush Color="{DynamicResource Green}" /> </Button.Background> </Button> </StackPanel>

create polyline size relative to image clicked

hi!!

i am creating a path geometry using polyline:

 System.Windows.Point Point1 = new System.Windows.Point(50, 10);
      System.Windows.Point Point2 = new System.Windows.Point(200, 10);
      System.Windows.Point Point3 = new System.Windows.Point(200, 100);
      System.Windows.Point Point4 = new System.Windows.Point(10, 100);
      System.Windows.Point Point5 = new System.Windows.Point(10, 50);
      System.Windows.Point Point6 = new System.Windows.Point(50, 10);
      PointCollection polygonPoints = new PointCollection();
      polygonPoints.Add(Point1);
      polygonPoints.Add(Point2);
      polygonPoints.Add(Point3);
      polygonPoints.Add(Point4);
      polygonPoints.Add(Point5);
      polygonPoints.Add(Point6);
      yellowPolyline.Points = polygonPoints;

this is a rectangle which is clipped from top-left,

actually i want to create dynamically a polyline whose size is relative to the image i click on the canvas

and then apply than clip that image using that polyline,,so that the image looks clipped from top-left

Calendar Caption Font Size

Using the Calendar control, is it possible to set a custom font style and size independent of the rest of the control?

I presently use the following in my page;

<asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1" runat="server" BackColor="#D4CAAF"
            BorderColor="Black" BorderWidth="1px" Font-Names="Segoe UI" Font-Size="9pt"
            ForeColor="Black" Height="140px" NextPrevFormat="ShortMonth" Width="200px"
            SelectionMode="None" BorderStyle="Solid"
            Caption="Calendar of Events" CaptionAlign="Top" ToolTip=" ">
            <SelectedDayStyle BackColor="#DDD5BE" ForeColor="White" />
            <SelectorStyle Font-Bold="False" />
            <TodayDayStyle BackColor="#D4CAAF" Font-Bold="True"
                Font-Names="Segoe UI" Font-Size="14px" />
            <OtherMonthDayStyle ForeColor="#999999" />

Designer Font Size Appears Much Larger Than When Viewed in Actual Website

I have Visual Studio 2010 Pro on both my desktop and laptop and have the preferences/settings the same for each installation.  On my desktop, when I view a webpage I've created in the Designer, the font size in a <p> tag appears consistent with how it looks on the page in the published website.  On the laptop, however, the <p> tag font size appears much larger in the Designer, but correct when published.  With the settings the same on both the desktop installation and the laptop, any ideas what I need to tweak so <p> tag text size appears the same in the Designer as on the published site?  The CSS is identical on both the desktop and laptop installations.

Thanks in advance...

Unable to apply custom font-size for pager controls using pagerstyle of SPGridview

Hi,

  I am using an SPGridView to view my data.

  I turned on pagination for this Gridview.

  For the pager controls I am trying to change the font size and font-style to match with the other text on the page.

 I am trying to set these by applying values for PagerStyle property of SPGridView.

grid1.PagerSettings.Mode =

PagerButtons.NumericFirstLast;

true;

But the changes are not being reflected during run-time.

Can somebody tell me why and how can I bring these changes at run-time.

Thank you

pal

grid1.PagerStyle.Font.Size = 2;

grid1.PagerStyle.Font.Bold =

Reduce ASP.NET Page size and complexity using JQuery

This is my first post on asp.net blog. ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery are two different ajax framework. In this post I will show, how we can enhance gridview using ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery. I also compare the implementation of these frameworks. In next posts i will explain more about JQuery and ASP.NET Ajax and also tell you "How to combine the power of both framework". My Future post will related to ASP.NET and related frameworks.
