SQL Server Express Install - Unattended Config

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi, hoping someone can help please, I'm installing SQL 2008 Express SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe and as it is for a Citrix envirnoment I need to do this as unattended.  I've read through everything I can on the subject and still don't seem to be able to get it work.  This is where I'm at:

An attended install works fine so I know I must have everything I need.

I should be able create a configuration file in the process, I undertand that I need to use Setup.exe /q /action=install /uimode=normal

But I get an error stating that uimode is not understood, any ideas please?

My only other option is to use the full command line, which is complete horror as I need just about all of the optional components and the syntax is killing me.

Thanks

Marvel

SQL-DMO Install on SQL Server 2005 Express Client

I am installing a Client side SQL 2005 Express that needs SQL-DMO. The Client computer does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed. I have installed all the MDAC and .Net 2.0. The command line I'm using to try and install the SQL-DMO and XML modules is: SQLEXPR_ADV ADDLOCAL=Tools_Legacy,SQLXML I get a message something like 'SQL Server 2005 Version does not support this install option.' How do I get SQL-DMO installed on a SQL Server 2005 Express Client computer?

Unable to install SQL Server 2008 Express R2 after installing .NET 4.0

Hi experts, I intend to redistribute SQL Server 2008 Express R2 in my installer. I've extracted the setup files from SQLEXPR32_x86.exe and pass in the appropriate command line parameters during the setup. Recently, I noticed if I applied the following Windows Update: .NET 4.0 Client Profile, I will hit into the following error when I installed SQL express. .NET Runtime 4.0 Error Reporting EventType clr20r3, P1 setup100.exe, P2 10.50.1600.1, P3 4bb67524, P4 mscorlib, P5 4.0.0.0, P6 4ba1da6f, P7 44f0, P8 32, P9 system.security.security, P10 NIL. .NET Runtime Application: setup100.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.Security.SecurityException Stack: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.DebugBreak() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.Main() Running the setup.exe from a file server will give these errors but if I copied the entire setup files to a local folder and run setup.exe from there, it runs fine. May I know what am I missing? I definitely need to support to install SQL express running from a file server location. Thanks, MK

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 Express due to MSXML 6 sp2

Got an XP Sp3 box - uninstalled SQL server 2008 Express r2.  Now I'm trying to install SQL server 2005 and am getting the ol' MSXML 6 SP2 error which is keeping SQL Server 2005 from installing.  Last time this happend there was the handy Installer Clean Up Utility but now you go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and it's gone.  So what is the solution now?  Everything I've googled says to use the installer cleaner but it doesn't exist now so what now?

SQL Server 2008 Express impossible to install.

As part of ARCserve backup r15, SQL Server 2008 Express is to be installed on a windows 2003 sp2 server (french language). All the prerequistes are present (power shell, .NET 3.5, Windows Installer 4.5...). The install fails with an -2147024893 error. I have not found anything conclusive about this error on the net. To get down on the issue I tried to install sql 2008 Express SP1 manually first. It fails with no error, returning to the main installation screen after installing the support files. The SQLSetup.log shows no apparent error but stop abruptly with the following : "Attempting to launch process d:\23ab1738a0f035434457b033\x86\setup100.exe"... as if this attempt was "suspended in the air". I have already tried to uninstall/install .NET 3.5 SP1, PowerShell, Windows Installer 4.5. No previous version of SQL had never been existed on this server. I even run "caspol.exe /machine -reset". I have tried the installation with SQL 2008 Express in english... I made registry cleanups... It's been one week of investigation and for the first time in my career I'm "dry". Is my case desperate ? Thanks   ******************* I enclosed the summary.txt when it's ARCServe r15 which is installing. I notice that "requested action" is "RemoveNode". I suppose it's related to any cluster. But we have not any cluster on the

Uable to successfully install SQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706)

After repeated attempts, I am unable to install the MSSQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706).  From Live Update, the installation initializes but then reports that it was unable to install.  The first couple of times I received Error Code 0x65B, but that doesn't come up any longer. I have ACT! Database version 2007 (9.0) and it is unable to access the database to open it because it uses the MSSQL??  Also, there used to be an MSSQL icon below in my system tray, but that no longer appears.  When I reboot it will be on briefly, but then goes away.. MS Customer Support has attempted to help (Case ID SRX1135612820) but now tell me that this is beyond their expertise.  They had me try to reload MMSQL 2005 but no change. Please help! Thanks!!  Terry

Purpose of initial "site" in SharePoint Server 2010 Express Install

I’m installing Search Server 2010 Express using “Farm” mode. After the SharePoint Configuration Wizard completes, and selecting  the SharePoint config wizard, one needs to create a website. What is that site intended for? Is it for the Search Center itself? (If so, then I better select the Enterprise – “Basic Search Center" template. If it is intended for a "normal" top level site, then I will create a new Search site in its own web app). TIA, Barkingdog

Can't install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition x64 from Command Line

I can't get R2 Express (x64) installed from the command line... x86 using this same command line works fine, just x64 is broken.

Using this:

/q /ACTION=Install /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD="MyStrongPassword" /INSTANCENAME="SQLEXPRESS" /FEATURES=SQLEngine,Replication,SDK /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE" /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="MyComputerName\MyUserName" /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms=TRUE

Everytime it fails with:

2010-09-19 15:30:48 SQLEngine: : Checking Engine checkpoint 'ConfigureServiceBroker'
2010-09-19 15:30:48 Slp: --SafeSqlCommand: ALTER DATABASE tempdb SET NEW_BROKER ALTER DATABASE msdb SET NEW_BROKER

Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). Install App that uses .NET Framework 4 and SQL Server 2008R2 Express (with Tools) - what .NET Framew

I am a little confused about how to install my application.  Written in C# using VS 2010 and targeted for the .NET 4 Framework.  It also uses a SQL Server 2008 R2 database.

In my installer I install .NET 4 Framework if not already present on the host machine.

For SQL Server 2008 R2 (with Tools) I understood I need Installer 4.5 and Powershell 1.0.  The install of install of 4.5 installer goes ok but requires a reboot.  The install of Powershell says it needs .NET Framework 2 SP2 - even tho' .NET 4 is installed.

I decide to ignore this and carry on so manually install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (with Tools).  It unpacks and complains it needs .NET Framework 3.5 SP1!

My application has to deploy to a disconnected machine installed in the cab of a logging harvester so I can't rely on automatic wwindows updates.

To deploy my app with SQL Server 2008 R2 (with Tools) do I need ...

  • .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and
  • .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and
  • .NET Framework 4

??

Wow??

I had presumed all I would would be .NET Framework 4 since it is "mostly" backwardly compatible.

Install time and complexity is HUGE is I need all three Frameworks.

Can someone please clarify for me?

Thanks

John

Can't install SQL Server Express with Advanced services

I have been trying to install SQL Server Express without success (Windows 7, 64 bit).  All systems are go until I get when I get to the end of the installation process I get the following message:

'' is not a valid login or you do not have permission

and a screen that says that the installation of the Database Engine and SQL Server Replication has failed, along with a pop-up that reads "SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup has stopped working".  It's one of those deadly messages.

Along the way there is a choice for Authentication Mode where I choose the default 'Windows authentication mode'.  'Mixed mode' has a choice for a password.  Also there is a choice to 'Add Current User'.  On one of my installation attempts I clicked this and nothing happened.  On another attempt I chose 'Add' and added 'Local\Adminstrator' (per some post I read).  No worky.

I have also tried installing it as administrator and disabled Windows 7 user account control

Any ideas? Thanks all.

Here is the log file:

Cannot Install SQL Server Management Studio after removing Express edition

I'm trying to upgrade my management studio to the full version, I uninstalled Express edition and started the install for the full version, but I get an error stating "you cannot install this component because it is already installed". I had a word with one of the guys in the office and he said the only way he's ever been able to get round this is by flattening the entire PC and starting again. Obviously I want to avoid that!
