Using SQL CE 3.5 in a framework 4.0 environment. Missing file msvcr80.dll

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi, we have an application that use SQL CE 3.5, distributed to several desktop machines via clickonce. The application has the framework 4.0 as prerequisite. To redistribute SQL CE 3.5 we followed the instructions provided at this page : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa983326.aspx in the section "Private File–Based Deployment".

On one client machine, with XP SP3, and only framework 1.1 and framework 4.0 installed, we got an error, because the dll "msvcr80.dll" required by "sqlceme35.dll" was not found.

I remark that .net framework 2.0 and 3.5 are NOT installed on that machine.

Is there any prerequisite that we can add in the Visual Studio project that contains msvcr80.dll and any other dll required by SQL CE 3.5?

Entity Framework in a web environment

I am starting a new project. I can either use the Entity Framework 4.0 or Linq to SQL as my data access layer.   I don't have any experience using either product.  I have read a lot about how Linq to SQL suffers in a disconnected environment like ASP.NET. I was wondering if the Entity Framework suffers from the same problems or if it is works well in a web environment.  I was also wondering if someone could recommend a good tutorial or book on the Entity Framework 4.0. Thanks

Opening vs2008 solution file in vs2010 - Framework targeting issue

Hey guys,

I am opening a vs2008 .sln file inside vs2010 - the conversion wizard shows up, and it goes through with no errors other than a pop up warning me that this solution needs .Net Framework 3.5 and that it is "not installed on this machine" - I chose to target it to .Net Framework 4.0 and to try to switch it later as an option.

I then bring up Properties - >Application -> Target Framework and in the dropdown, .Net Framework 3.5 is not listed - which is strange since in "Add or Remove Programs" I can see .Net Framework 3.5 is installed on my machine.

How can I get Framework 3.5 to show up in the dropdown so I can target this project to that framework?

Can't say I've ever done this, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Update: I tried Method #1 here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robvi/archive/2004/02/17/75272.aspx) and I cannot see v3.5 - so where did it go? I'm confused why it is not in my registry but shows up in "Add or Remove Programs" list...

Cannot move file from one ftp directory to another in .NET Framework 4.0

I'm in the progress of updating my C++ code from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010.  I've come across a problem where the FtpWebRequest class is unable to move a file from one directory to another directory on a ftp server when an absolute FtpWebRequest::RenameTo path is specified.

For example, I want to move the file, file.txt from source to destination as follows:
source: /working/
destination: /data/

An example of the code I use to handle this is below:

    Uri^ target = gcnew Uri( gcnew String("FTP://servername//working/file.txt"));
    FtpWebRequest^ request = dynamic_cast<FtpWebRequest^>(WebRequest::Create( target ));
    request->Credentials = gcnew NetworkCredential( gcnew String("username"), gcnew String("password") );

    request->EnableSsl = (ftpType == ftpTypeFTPS) ? true : false;
    request->KeepAlive = false;
    request->Method = WebRequestMethods::Ftp::Rename;
    request->RenameTo = gcnew String("/data/file.txt");

The problem is that FtpWebRequest treats the FtpWeb

C# reading Java/Php/SOAP service, WSDL generated file missing some namespace information

I'm trying to use a Web Service, which I believe is Java/php/SOAP, using C#.
I can connect and send fine, but the results, which are an array of information,
is null. The return is not instant, and I can get back errors.
I believe the problem is in the WSDL translation. The actual response coming back
does not line up with the WSDL generated code in reguards to namespaces. In
perticular, 'getCategoryTreeResponse' & 'getCategoryTreeResult' do not show up
in the generated file.
I'm quite sure the WSDL file provided is poorly written but I have no control
over it. WSDL.exe only works when I pass a saved copy of the web service's
provided WSDL information due to the way it is called.

I am having trouble with some updates after a repair install of a Windows XP Media Center system. Many of the updates that fail to install are updates to .Net rameworks. I ran rhe net framework verification utility for .Net v 1.0 because it is supposed to be part of the OS. It gave the error in the title. How should I proceed?
