Tree hierarchy

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a table with a field that points to the key of another record in the table which is its parent, thus creating a hierarchy. Now I want to turn that into a dimension with the hierarchy. How can I accomplish such a thing? Is there any automatic support for that in Visual Studio?

employee hierarchy using trace tree

I am looking to create an employee hierarchy in a trace tree ( any other suggestions most welcome ) and have 2 specific fields in my table ( employee , reports to )

Now a sample data looks like follows

Employee     Reports to

User A           Manager A

Manager A     Senior manager A

User B           Senior Manager A

User C          Manager A

so on and so forth

Now how do I get a trace tree so that when i click on Senior manager A  I get Manager A and User B , and then expand manager A to get user A and User C.

I have been looking around a lot but cannot find a solution.

Help appreciated.

Logical- and Visual Tree

Elements of a WPF user interface are hierarchically related. This relation is called the LogicalTree. The template of one element consists of multiple visual elements. This tree is called the VisualTree. WPF differs between those two trees, because for some problems you only need the logical elements and for other problems you want all elements.

Hierarchy ID: Model Your Data Hierarchies With SQL Server 2008

Here we explain how the new hierarchyID data type in SQL Server 2008 helps solve some of the problems in modeling and querying hierarchical information.

Test Run: The Analytic Hierarchy Process

Most software testing takes place at a relatively low level. Testing an application's individual methods for functional correctness is one example. However, some important testing must take place at a very high level-for example, determining if a current build is significantly better overall than a previous build.

The ASP Column: Tree Controls with XSL

Manipulating the TreeView server-side control is very much like programming any other ASP.NET server-side control. There are a number of properties, methods, and events that are available both programmatically and through the designer. Find out how to take advantage of it.

Custom tree view for navigating wiki pages

I'm creating an information resource on our intranet (WSS 3.0) using the wiki style format.  The only trick is, unlike a standard wiki, where all pages are directly under the parent, I want to be able to create a customizable tree view where some pages are nested underneath each other.  For example, this particular site talks about all of our different IT systems.  I'll have a wiki page for each system, then underneath each of those pages, there will be more pages for things like training, documentation, etc.  Even though all those pages are at the same level, I need to be able to nest them in a navigational tree view on the quick launch bar.  I suppose if there were also a way to nest the wiki pages themselves, I could just use the pre-packaged tree view.  Anyone have any ideas?

Organization Hierarchy - Manger not showing

SharePoint 2007 SP2 on Server 2008 R2

I am doing a custom profile import using AD and a BDC connection.  All the data comes in and populates correctly, including the 'Manager' field which is being populated from the BDC entity. All main fields are being populated from the BDC entity.  Fields are; First name, last name, email, office and cell phone, and manager.

However, when viewing the Organization Hierarchy, the users 'Manager' is not showing up in the Hierarchy. Nothing above the current user is shown in the Hierarchy.  The Manager field is populated with a valid user.  If I display the Manager field in the 'Details' section, I can see the name and click on it to see their profile page as well, so it is all valid and accurate.

Colleagues ( users with the same Manager ) are listed in the Hierarchy, but none of their hierarchy's show the manager either.

I have deleted every profile and then done a full import several times with the same result. Incremental import does ont have any affect either.

Any suggestions or advice on how to get the Manager to display?

Thanks to all!

Decision tree dependency measure

The dependency network viewer executes the stored procedure System.Microsoft.AnalysisServices.System.DataMining.DecisionTreesDepNet.DTGetNodeGraph which yields some integer measure that represents the strength of influence of input variables on the output variable. How this measures are calculated (information gain, chi-square, correlation etc)? It seems as if conditional influences are not taken into account: if A and B are two major factors which impact variable C, but A and B are strongly correlated so that C given A is not dependent on B, dependency algorithm will still depict B as the second major factor. Am I right? So there is no analogy of tests like conditional chi-square, conditional mutual information or partial correlation?   It seems to me that MS Data Mining lacks some kind of Bayesian Networks algorithm wich would illustrate conditional dependencies. That would give a useful insight on how various factors are related to each other and through what kind of chains a change in some input variable transforms to the output.   Thank you.

Running an Expression Tree

Hi, I'm trying to code an ET Runner... I have a generic instance of Expression and want to compile and run it. The Compile method is just inside the LambdaExpression class, but to create a LambdaExpression I have to know the parameters of my expression and I can't know it for a generic Expression instance. Do you know a factory method for LambdaExpression which just accept a Body?

Viewing the Visual Tree in the Debugger

I recently posted an article to CodeProject which discusses a debugger visualizer.  It allows you to view the visual tree while debugging, inspect every property of any element in the tree, as well as view a snapshot image of any element.  I call it Woodstock, because it's like a scaled down version of Snoop.  Here's the article, if you're interested: http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/WoodstockForWPF.asp
