Migrate DB + files outside DB into SharePoint using SSIS and scripts

Hello, just wanted to ask a question about SSIS and SharePoint, any input will be greatly appreciated.... did search the forum but could not find anything....

So basically we have a SQL Server DB with the metadata ONLY, WITHOUT the related files(doc/ppt/pdf..etc) which should've been in the DB and they are on a separate web server inside folders. Each row in the DB has a key (column) which matches the related folder's name, so for row with ID #112, there's a folder named ID112 on the web server with the relevant files inside. There could be more than 8+ files for one folder.

Now, I think it is possible but just wanted to double check, would it be possible to use SSIS and some kind of a script to get the metadata inside the SQL DB AND the related files inside those folders, combine & relate them and upload them into SharePoint as a custom list with file attachments? would they display the attachment normally (like the paperclip icon in a sharepoint list...etc) I wonder if anyone has tried this...

Any guidance, thoughts, suggestions for other solutions, inputs will be great!!! Thank you!!

External Code Assemblies, Report Subscriptions, and configuration files

I've got a report that relies on a very small external assembly for data for one of its fields.  That assembly, in turn, relies on some values from System.Configuration for portions of its work. I have the configuration keys and values running fine in the web interface, set up in web.config, but when users set up subscriptions for the report it runs fine but doesn't retrieve the configuration values from web.config (as expected) nor does it retrieve them from rsreportserver.config, where I have tried them in the root of the config file as <add key=... /> entries and also by wrapping them inside an <appSettings /> node.  I have also tried them in an appropriately-name config file in the bin directory.  In all cases the report is fine except the field that relies on the external assembly, where I recieve an error indicating that there's missing information (the config vals are used in a String.Format() call): Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.Format(IFormatProvider provider, String format, Object[] args) at ExternalDBFunctions.ExternalSelectors.GetNotificationStati(String NotificationID) mscorlib When I remove the config values from the web.config, the web interface shows exactly the same error. Where should these configuration values go?

Problem importing text files with binary zeros (0x00) via SSIS(SQL2005). It is all fine when using D

Hi.   There is a "text" file generated by mainframe and it has to be uploaded to SQL Server. I've reproduced the situation with smaller sample. Let the file look like following: A17     123.17  first row          BB29    493.19  second             ZZ3     18947.1 third row is longer And in hex format: 00:  41 31 37 20 20 20 20 20 ? 31 32 33 2E 31 37 20 20  A17     123.17  10:  66 69 72 73 74 20 72 6F ? 77 0D 0A 42 42 32 39 20  first row??BB29 20:  20 00 20 34 39 33 2E 31 ? 39 20 20 73 65 63 6F 6E     493.19  secon30:  64 0D 0A 5A 5A 33 20 20 ? 20 20 20 31 38 39 34 37  d??ZZ3     1894740:  2E 31 20 74 68 69 72 64 ? 20 72 6F 77 00 69 73 20  .1 third row is 50:  6C 6F 6E 67 65 72       ?                          longer          I wrote "text" in quotes because sctrictly it is not pure text file - non-text binary zeros (0x00) happen sometimes instead of spaces (0x20).   The table is: CREATE TABLE eng ( src varchar (512) )   When i upload this file into SQL2000 using DTS or Import wizard, the table contains: select src, substring(src,9,8), len(src) from eng <               src                ><substr>             <len> A17     123.17  first row           123.17                  25BB29                                493.19                  22ZZ3     18947.1 third row           18947.1                 35   As one can see, everything was importe

How to create a SSIS package to import records form SQl Server 2008 tables to text files

I am a newbie to SSIS and would like to create a package to accomplish the task referenced in the above title. Will appreciate any links and pointers in the right direction.   Thanksakoranteng

SSIS Connection Configuration

Hello,   I have a bunch of packages that use different connections. I would like to put all these connections in the a sql config file and use only the needed connections for that package when executing. Right now when I run a package that doesn't use all the connections in the config table I get errors for all the other connections.   I would like to keep all the connections in one table for easy management, is this possible and even if the package does not use all the connections.   THanks, J

SSIS FTP Task works, but the files aren't there

I've created an FTP Task in my SSIS package, and when I run it in BIDS, it turns green and reports success, but when I look at the destintation folder, the file that should have been sent isn't there. I can send the same file to the same destination using the same credentials using WSFTP and it gets there. How can one begin to debug such a thing?

SSIS package - change Web reference's addres from Configuration file?

Greetings. The SSIS packages provide very nice options to configure them from an XML file, which allows to change credentials, database names etc w/o editing the package. This lets me, say, transfer package from one server to another or from test to production w/o any hassle - just changing the xml. Problem is, i need to acces a web service in my package, and built-in SSIS web service task is useless and just SUCKS. It fails to work even with miscrosoft's own sharepoint web service. So, i have to use scripting task. And scripting task uses "web reference" to access web services, which in turn gives no way to change it's url.  So, if i want to test and then move to production, i'll have to edit my package to change the web reference url from "testserver:5123/mywebservice" to "productionserver:81/webservices/mywebservice". And then change it again to test it again. Etc. Is there a solution to this? A way to programmatically change web reference's url from inside scripting task?

Use SSIS to read files in SharePoint library

Hi,I'm trying to use SSIS to read data from an Excel file in a SharePoint document library and I am having some problems with it.First I tried to use the Excel file as a source file in an Excel Source task which worked well in BIDS but not on the SQL server. ("CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER")Next I tried to read data from an Excel file on the SQL server file system which worked well on the SQL server.Next I tried to use a File System Task to copy the Excel file to the SQL server file system. This also worked well in BIDS but not on the SQL server. ("The file name \\sharepoint\mylibrary\myfile.xls specified in the connection was not valid.")I have also tried to let the SQL server agent run on a domain account that is set up as a reader on the SharePoint document library without success.Where am I going wrong?

Creating Multiple Excel files Using SSIS

Hello Friends,  I have to create multiple excel files(Per Year eg 2008 , 2009, 2010....) from datatable using SSIS  For that i have to use one template excel file that is already created on some location.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks Thanks

Multiple configuration files.

I have an application that is deployed into multiple machines and each machine requires a number of specific configuration entries. I was hoping to pick the brains of this group for the best way to mange configuration entries (connection strings, app settings, sevice model, etc.) for multiple machines. I was hoping to have a configuration file that changing one entry would change all of the configuration settings that the application sees. Best would be for the application to "auto detect" the "right" configuration entries but I would be happy if I could limit the configuration edits to one entry. Ideas?

Thank you.

Deployment Of SSIS With Config Files

I went through other threads and links on this subject. Still one thing which concerns me is the config files.

My current folder path is C:\Karunakaran\folder1\folder2\

Under folder2 I have the following files

4 dtsx files
1 .database file
1 .dtproj file
1 .dtproj.user file
1 .sln file
1 .suo file

Config folder ( C:\Karunakaran\folder1\folder2\Config\)

Based on some of the threads, when I enabled package configuration, I changed the path from
C:\Karunakaran\folder1\folder2\Config\common.dtsconfig -> common.dtsconfig

Once I did this, when I open the project I get a dozen of warning similar to the one below

Warning loading <package1>.dtsx: Failed to load at least one of the configuration entries for the package. Check configurations entries and previous warnings to see descriptions of which configuration failed.

What am I doing wrong here? If I have to deploy this to another box, what should I do to ensure that nothing breaks once its copied / installed?

SSIS Script task that FTP's files

I could not find the exact details on how to create a SSIS script that would ftp files on these forums, so I am adding my code to help save time for anyone else that might be wanting to do something similar.  Here is the VB code for my script task to FTP files (hope this helps someone):

' Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task

' Write scripts using Microsoft Visual Basic

' The ScriptMain class is the entry point of the Script Task.

Imports System

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Math

Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Public Class ScriptMain

Public Sub Main()

'Create the connection to the ftp server

start SSIS package via script task with package configuration via variables

it is possible to start ssis packages with dtexec and set variables as package configuration like this:

dtexec.exe /SQL "\mart1\import_fact_calls" /SERVER "R08" /SET \package.variables[FullImport].Value;True

Now I'm trying to start a package via script task with this code:

Public Sub Main()
    Dim pkg As New Package
    Dim app As New Application
    Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult

    If Dts.Variables("package").Value <> "" Then
      pkg = app.LoadFromSqlServer(Dts.Variables("package").Value, "R08", "USER", "PASS", Nothing)
      pkgResults = pkg.Execute()
    End If

    Dts.TaskResult = ScriptResults.Success
End Sub

How can I add a package configuration like the one with dtexec to the script code?

I like any ideas, links, docus ... Thanks!

Importing multiple files to multiple tables in SSIS

I have a directory with 200+ txt files to import into SQL tables in a database. Each file name is the exact table name in the database(without the file extension, obviously). I am looping through each file with a for each loop and a variable is mapped and set in the source connection properties for the Expressions -> ConnectionString property, so each name will go into that variable without the file extensions, correct?  Now, I set the variable name to the table name in the destination for the table name under "Data Access Mode", but it is giving an error...do I have to assign variables to each part, (Connection String and Name)? Does anyone have a quick setup for this?

SSIS Random Error, Ragged Right Flat Files

I am having a random error with my package(trying to generate fixed length text file using Ragged Right from one sql server table).

Data looks like for most of the runs(good data):

However, maybe for 1 out of 10-20 runs, some rows appear to be deleted misteriously(log shows everything fine and I am sure there is no other procoess update the file). This can happen anywhere(but just only at 1 place ). SSIS didn't provide any error or warning, it even says it inserted correct number of rows in the log.

Sometimes data generated like this:

DTLA01                                             08320100201N000020.7400C

Have anyone seen this kind of error before. I have tried e
