Problems with connecting to a WCF Service

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

I'm going through the learning curve with WPF in VS2010 (.NET 4.0) at the moment. I created a simple WPF Forms project and put a reference to an exisiting WCF service. Everything worked fine. I then created a WPF Browser project and put a reference to the same WCF service in it. I now get this:

Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
The service is normally used in an ASP 4.0 web site with no problem. What do I need to configure to avoid this problem in the WPF browser project?

Problems connecting stored procedure to Crystal Reports

I am working on updating a reporting system that uses Crystal Reports.  All of the 250+ reports were created in CR 8 and I have been opening up the old files in Visual Studio 2005 and updating the database location.  All I have had to do with all connections to views and even a couple of stored procedures is create a new connection to the database and then update the old report's datasource location.  The reason I need to update the location is so that the .NET application will use the correct driver.  Everything has worked fine up until I got to one stored procedure.  The old version of the report works perfectly with the stored procedure, but when I try to run the report using VS 2005 I keep getting errors.

First I connected to the database using the Oracle OLE DB provider, then updated the location of the stored procedure in the report.  It then prompts me for the two parameter values for the stored procedure, both of which I keep as NULL so that the report parameters will be passed to the procedure.  Then I get the following error:

Query Engine Error: 'ADO Error Code: 0x
Source: OraOLEDB
Description: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:

problems with Consuming WCF service in SoapUI

Hi,   Rather new to WCF!! I have created a simple WCF web service in a Console application and successfully tested consuming it in a .Net Console application client. i have used the default binding behaviour stuff in my host as below: Uri baseAddress = new Uri("http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/Service"); ServiceHost selfHost = new ServiceHost(typeof(CalculatorService), baseAddress); try { selfHost.AddServiceEndpoint( typeof(ICalculator), //the contract new WSHttpBinding(), //the binding "CalculatorService"); //the endpoint address ServiceMetadataBehavior smb = new ServiceMetadataBehavior(); smb.HttpGetEnabled = true; selfHost.Description.Behaviors.Add(smb); selfHost.Open(); Console.WriteLine("The service is ready at {0}.", baseAddress); Console.WriteLine("Press <ENTER> to terminate service."); Console.WriteLine(); Console.ReadLine(); // Close the ServiceHostBase to shutdown the service. selfHost.Close(); } catch (CommunicationException ce) { Console.WriteLine("An exception occurred: {0}", ce.Message); selfHost.Abort(); } my problem is that I would like to consume this service in SoapUI. error 1069: The service did not start due to logon problems

The local sql server that was working fine earlier does not start now. I have already created tables and accessed them using stored procedures. I get an error 1069: The service did not start due to logon problems. I have only changed my domain password. I do not remember what authentication I chose for log on. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Indexing Service problems

After days of searching for a solution on the Internet I hope someone can help, Others have had the same problem but there were no real solutions posted. My problem is that the Index Service does not return all the fields in the results of my DataGrid, for example DocTitle and Characterization are empty while Path and Url bring back entries. If I use the Indexing services default query page for that catelog it returns all the correct information. I dont believe its my code because its pretty much the same as all the examples I have found on the net. It does not matter if I use the existing 'Web' catelog or create my own. Hope someone has a suggestion. Dim strQuery As String strQuery = "Select DocTitle,Path, url,Characterization from SCOPE() where write_ > '2000/06/26' and CONTAINS(filename, '.htm')" Dim connString As String = "Provider=MSIDXS;Data Source=web" Dim cn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(connString) Dim cmd As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter(strQuery, cn) Dim testDataSet As New DataSet("results") cmd.Fill(testDataSet) Dim source As New DataView(testDataSet.Tables(0)) DataGrid1.DataSource = source DataGrid1.DataBind()

Problems with using SPSite inside a Web Service (presumably credentials problem)

Greetings. I need to write a web service which will access sharepoint via object model (need to output data from lists, and no, built-in sharepoint web services are useless to me since they totally suck if you dont have an english-language site) In the code of my web service, i use something like this:   Site = new SPSite(SiteLink); Web = Site.AllWebs[""]; And then i use Web.Lists to get my list and work with it. It works, unless i put the webservice on. I mean, when the webservice is launched from Asp.net deveopment server, it works fine. When i made a website in IIS pointing it to my webservice, it now spits this error:   System.IO.FileNotFoundException: ?? ??????? ????? ???-?????????? ?? ?????? http://localhost/sites/test/. ?????????, ????????? ?? ?????? URL-?????. ???? ???? URL-????? ???????????? ??? ????????????? ???????м???, ???м????, ?????м??м? ??м??????????? ??????????? ???????? ????? ????????????? Connecting PPS to Service Analysis Cubes

I am new to PPS so this may be a basic question.  I have created a cube in BIDS and deployed it.  When I go into PPS dashboard designer and create a connection to Analysis Services I enter the name of the server and drop down the Cubes list.  It briefly says loading and then lists nothing. No error messages nothing.

I created another connection to the same server using SQL Server Table and that worked fine, listing all the tables.

I dont know how to ge the cubes to list.  Any ideas?

Problems with UserProfile Application Service not starting.

I'm using the Rational Guide from Harbar.net, and have the following problem:

UserProfileApplication.SynchronizeMIIS: Failed to configure ILM, will attempt during next rerun. Exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Specified collection 'StringSchemaCollection' cannot be dropped because it is used by object 'MyAD_Domain\spfarm.GetObjectCurrent'.

I found references to simalr errors with Kerberos auth problems, but not one like this.

What did I do wrong, and how do I correct it?

Problems Connecting Excel Services to Oracle Database

I am just beginning to experiment with using Excel Services with BI Dashboards in SharePoint 2010.  I created a Excel Workbook that has a data connection using connection type of OLE DB Query with a connection string of "Provider=MSDAORA.1;User ID=<username>;Data Source=<oracleEnvironment>".  I have the Excel Services Authentication Settings set up for a specific SSS ID <mySSSID>.

This Excel Workbook has been Saved to SharePoint with an entire sheet published.  The Excel Web App is displaying the sheet and the Slicers are functioning just like they do in the Excel client.  When I refresh the data on the client I get prompted for a password and it works fine.  When I refresh on the Web App I have received a variety of errors depending on what I try but nothing has helped me track down what I have missed.

Problems accessing web service without www

I have a Asp.net web service running on www.domain.com/Service.svc that I connect to using jQuery from my asp.net website. Everything works perfect if the user access my website with www.domain.com. But if the user uses only domain.com (without www) I get error:

There was no channel actively listening at 'http://domain.com/Service.svc/get?date=2010-10-09'.
This is often caused by an incorrect address URI. Ensure that the address to which
the message
is sent matches an address on which a service is listening.

In my web.config I use the serviceHostingEnvironment tag to get the service running on my webhost (it doesn't work otherwise). Maybe this is what causes the error? How can I make it possible for my users to access my webservice also when using only domain.com?

Here is my system.serviceModel in web.config (I had some problems setting up the web service so that's why my web.config might be a bit messy:

SQL2005 and SQL2008 installed on the same environment - Application problems connecting to SQL2005 d

We have an environment with SQL 2005 and SQL2008 instances - failover 2 node cluster 64 bit.

We installed a new web application and we cannot connect to the databases on the SQL2005 instance.

We are able to connect to the database using the same credentials used by the web site using a udl file and using SQL Management Studio. However, the web site tells that we do not have authorisation to access the web site.

I wonder whether there is something to do with the fact that we have the two SQL versions on the same environment.

We had a similar problem on another mixed environment. On that particular case the connection failed on a SSIS package. We tried the same package on a SQL2005 and the package ran.

If the mixture of the two versions is affecting new applications to connect to the databases, is there a way around to resolve this problem? Unfortunately, the environments contain live databases.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Error connecting to Web Service in C#

I am trying to access a web service and calling a method to pass my request parameters. I am programmatically setting my credentials, using:

service.Credentials =
new NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain_url");

When in the above code, I pass domain_url, I get this Web Exception in dialogue box while debugging.

Unable to automatically step into the server. Connecting to the server machine "ServerUrl" failed. Invalid access to memory location.

In the message property of the web exception I get "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized."

And when I do not pass domain_url, that is,

service.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password");

It does not

problems with trace.writeline not writing output messages on multiple instance/thread service

I've come across something strange and can't quite figure out what could be going wrong. I have a windows service which processes queue items in a threadpool (default 5 threads).

So, during testing, i "debug, start new instance" and spin up about 4-5 instances of the service, and on average there is about 25 threads going at same time.

My trace code:
Trace.WriteLineIf(traceOutput.TraceVerbose, string.Format("processing Item for {0}", item.id));

this seems to work for a while and writes the trace code to the output window, but after a while, the trace output just stops being output to the window.. has anyone else experienced this before or could know what might be going wrong?

Connection problem when connecting from windows service in Windows 7 embedded

Hi everyone

I'm trying to migrate our applications working with SQL Server 2005 Express from Windows XP to Windows 7, and have following problem. Desktop applications connect to SQL Server fine, but windows service app returns following error when trying to connect: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECCreateCredentials()).]SSL Security error

I tried installing service under localsystem account and under desktop user account with no success.

My connection string looks like Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=password;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=user;Initial Catalog=data;Data Source=servername

I've searched a bit about this error and one recommendation was to try to use SQL Native client, so I tried to change my connection string to

Provider=SQLNCLI;Pwd=password;UID=user;Database=data;Server=servername, this also works when running from desktop but when running from windows service I get another error

SQL Network Interfaces: The requested security package does not exist

This seems to be purely client problem because when I use wrong server name I still get the same errors.

I guess something changed with permissions of services in Windows 7

Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Error in connecting to SQLServer 2005 from Management studio and neither able to start sql service

I had been using SQL server 2005 without any problem but a few days back I started having some problem with my Windows XP Professional sp2 that my pc used to go off after 5-7 mins everytime i started it. So I repaired the OS. Since then, when i opened SQL Server and tried to connect am getting this error---

TITLE: Connect to Server

Cannot connect to POONAM-C586A95C\SQLEXPRESS.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)

I checked the state of sql serverand it is stopped. What should I do to bring it to running state?

I even added sqlservr exe file to the exceptions in the firewall but i dont think that could hav been a problem b'coz it was working perfectly without any changes in the firewall setting.

Why am I getting this error and how can I remove it?

Please help.
