Best Control for Data Entry

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Currently, I'm developing a data entry screen for my company.  I tried using a DataGrid but I'm thinking that the ListView might give me a little more power.  My object collection may or may not come into the original form partially filled out for the data entry clerk, and I want to be able to just have the user tab through the grid (to create new rows or to just switch to the next column/row in the collection).

For data valudation, I have the requirement to validate each row in of itself AND to valudate the row against the the other entries in the collection (To enforce business rules of "duplicates").  I'd also like to possibly pass back "warnings" as well.

Let me touch on the requirements for rows with errors, I'd like them to pulse with either a red "ring" around the row or the background color turn red.  Also, when validating against the whole collection, I'd like all the "duplicates" to throb red as well.

I just started on WPF Friday and have already learned so much, but I don't if I'm using the best control for the job (At least thanks to the Family.Show example, I got the view to be editable!)

All help is greatly appreciated.

GridView control to show master-child or master-slave data, written in c#, asp.net

I previously made a master slave datagrid using Visual Studio 2003 .Net (original article) that would allow users to show data to clients using collapse and expand features. Easily manipulate data with the GridView control in ASP.NET 2.0

Last week, I introduced ASP.NET 2.0's GridView data control and covered the basics of using it. This week, I go a step further by going into the details of working with the data contained in the control. This includes viewing, editing, and deleting data. Thankfully, the GridView control makes it easy to utilize these features. Before diving into these topics, I begin with an examination of the different field types supported by the GridView control.

Sorting Data in a GridView Web Server Control

The GridView control provides built-in sorting functionality without requiring any coding. You can further customize the sort functionality of the GridView control by using custom SortExpression property values for columns as well as by using the Sorting and Sorted events

Hi All,

I am trying to persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control. Here are the details

I have a user control which contains a a listBox and button. On Page_Load of user control I am populating the ListBox control with some values. On Click of button, I am trying to fetch the values which I have selected in ListBox. Though this seems very simple and straight forward I am unable to fetch values.

My Page_Load Function

void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

My Click Function

Protected Void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

       string strValue = listBox.SelectedValue

I have placed brake point at Page_Load and on click function, I am seeing that the moment the breakpoin

Wizard Control textbox data is lost

I'm using a wizard contol with several textbox fields. I have two textbox fields disabled (textbox19 and textbox20)because I don't want the user to change the values that are calculated from the other textboxes (see javascript below). I do this with javascript on the clientside. My problem occurs when the user is in STEP2 and goes back to STEP1 the values in the disabled fields are gone. Is there a way to fix this? I would also like to perform a validation on textbox20 but I haven't been able to do that with the textbox disabled. How can I do validations on a field that is disabled? I've tried enabling the fields and using readonly = true but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions? // Client Side script to do calculations <script type="text/javascript">       function calculateSubTotal() {      var txt6 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox6.ClientID %>');     var txt12 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox12.ClientID %>');     var txt18 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox18.ClientID %>');     var txt14 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox14.ClientID %>');     var txtSubTotal = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox19.Cl
