.NET 4 Web Application Startup Time

I was chatting with Jonathan Hawkins and some of the folks on the ASP.NET team about performance and Jonathan mentioned the startup time for large ASP.NET applications is improved on .NET 4. There are some improvements in the CLR and in ASP.NET itself that helped. If you have a giant app, you should do some tests.

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

Visual Studio is a wonderful development environment, whose IntelliSense®, integrated debugging, online help, and code snippets help boost your performance as a developer. But just because you're writing code fast doesn't mean you're writing fast code.

An ASP.NET 4 Web Application Using the SqlTableProfileProvider - Doable or a Time Sink?

Have hundreds of ASP.NET developers been wasting dozens of hours each on something that can't be made to work in ASP.NET? This is too weird! I've scoured the Web in vain looking for an example where someone has implemented the Microsoft SqlTableProfileProvider in an ASP.NET Web application . (The SqlTableProfileProvider  lets you store Profile data in a normal way rather than as difficult-to-manipulate blob data.) There are plenty of implementations using the Web site model, including fellow...(read more)

WCF - First call to Callback instance from Server takes considerable time to make it to the client.

Hello. There's a performance problem we are facing that we are unable to fix using DuplexChannels. The first call made by the client to the server reaches the server instantly. The first call made by the server to the first client using a Callback proxy will take several seconds to reach the client. All subsequent calls to the client (as well as other clients) will reach and execute instantly. The client connects to the Server using a proxy to IServiceProvision, supplies an instance to an implementation of IClientCallback and calls IServiceProvision.Start(). The server instantly processes the call and makes an asynchronous call to IClientCallback.DoWork(), which takes several seconds to enter the client's DoWork() implementation. The remainder of the execution then runs smoothly. Also, the server will experience such a slowdown only for the very first call of the first client that connects to it. Is it normal for the Callback interface to take so much time to warmup, only on the first call to the first client? Below is the full source code. Thanks for any information you may provide. Cheers Mike Shared Class Library using System.ServiceModel; namespace Test { [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://test/IService", CallbackContract = typeof(IClientCallback))] public interface IServiceProvision { [OperationContract] void Start(); [OperationContract] void

Why my application always complain request is time out??

Below is the configuration file, i didn`t do any modification on it. and i got a very weird situation. first my application run in this way, it was a back end library, every few second, it will send a web request to a central server for information update. but when i test it, after my back end library was launch for a while, it always complain timeout. and cannot send any message to the server. so what is wrong with my application?????  is there anything to do with the configuration file? <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="WSHttpBinding_IEAVService" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" transactionFlow="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true" allowCookies="false"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringConten

How to make my application to be minimized directly to the tray icon area ?

I know its a problem . my program most of the time working in the background so most of the time its going to be in the tray icon area. The thing is i can minimize now my application reagulary and it will drop to the left bottom corner and i see only the top of the window of the application so i can resize it. Or i can turn the taskbar property to true and then it will be minimized to the taskbar in the middle . I tried using hid on the taskbar but then i cant resize it from the tray icon cuz its only hiding it in the taskbar not realy moving it to the tray icon . Is there any way or something to make the application move directly to the tray icon area when im pressing the minimize button "-" on my application ? I know there some programs not many but some that when you press the minimize button its going directly to the tray icon. I wonder how they did it.   Thanks for the help .  danieli

how to make this application and/or how you do it?

I have some experience with asp-om. I had the opportunity to work with an application made in the old ASP and now I'm learning asp.net and I would like to make this application in asp.net c #. I currently thinking of what should I do and how to do it...The application is typing basketball statistics and then it passes into the database to calculate the percentages and other statistical information...applications generally goes like this:You choose the 2 clubs that played the game from the drop-down, and some other thing ... you press a next button and the next page is a list of players who are listed in the database under that clubsYou put a check in front of the names of players who have played that game. and for each of the selected player on the next page the asp creates a row where there is a couple of textboxes in which you will enter the statistics for that player. Now I am interested in this:- How to write code that will for every selected player on the next page make a row with these texboxes to put numbers in.I understand that I will need a for each loop, and I will transfer my data between pages using viewstate, but how to set the id for that every texbox and connect them the database for later recording of data.I also interested in how to create for this and for the future when it is not a predefined number, or when a number of created texboxes, chec

Make a T-SQL Query Sleep for a certain amount of time

At times, in test scenarios, you may want to emulate that a transaction or a T-SQL query takes 'x' amount of time. Well that is possible (although not with precision) in SQL Server (2005/2008) using the WAITFOR command.

Client Application Services - Role service cache time out bug

Hi All, For people using Client Application Services with WPF, be aware of this bug. You can configure the "cache time out" for roles to be fetched again from the service. (In the visual studio dialog, Properties -> Services -> Advanced) This means the roles are cached on the client (in a file). If the application asks for roles again, they are not fetched again for "cache time out" time. When you set this value, it goes into your App.config, transformed into seconds. So if you choose 1 minute, the App.config has: cacheTimeout="60".   However, when using the ClientRoleProvider (for instance to do something like clientRoleProvider.GetRolesForUser("SomeUser")), this cacheTimeOut is interpreted in Minutes, not seconds! To prove my point, check ClientRoleProvider.Initialize method:   string temp = config["cacheTimeout"]; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(temp)) _CacheTimeout = int.Parse(temp, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);   Later on, in ClientRoleProvider.GetRolesFromDBUser (what's in a name?), you see: _CacheExpiryDate = cd.RolesCachedDateUtc.AddMinutes(_CacheTimeout);   Testing also shows this behavior. So be aware, and always put the value in minutes in your App.Config!   Regards, Koen

Install-SPSolution : This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be

What we want to achieve: install/deploy a custom site template ONCE so it becomes available to all site colls in several we apps.

We have
1) modified a web site based on a Team Site template
2) saved the web site as a template (template is available in (site coll?) solution gallery)
3) saved the site template as a file
4) added the site template to the farm solution store using add-SPSolution

When we try to deploy the solution to a web app using Install-SPSolution we get the following error message:

"Install-SPSolution : This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be deployed to a particul
ar Web application."

Obviously we are missing something here.

Is the ONLY way to add/install the solution at the site coll level?

How to install SQL-Server 2008 product key after evaluation time is over

Hi all,

in my SQL-Server 2008  installation (from de_sql_server_2008_r2_express_with_advanced_services_edition_november_ctp_x64_455228)the server is not running anymore. Apparently the evaluation time (180 days) is over and we seem not to have put in the product key. At least this is the error message I am getting.

Unfortunately, I can not find the actual tool or application to put in the product key.

Could anybody please help and let me know what I have to do to put the key in.

Thank you very much in advance !
