About database attach upgrade method

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm planning an upgrade from MOSS 2007 to Sharepoint 2010 with database attach method and I would like to know what happens with links inside content pages and documents (words, excel, etc...) that points to the own site. Must we change the url host once we have finished to upgrade process in the new farm?. I suspect no, because I have meet some other experience attaching content database between MOSS 2007 farms and the host url has been updated (I don't know why) .

Where can I found information about it? Anyone has any related document?

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

Upgrade 2007-2010 Database Attach

Hi all,

Having read many of the articles abot upgrading 2007-2010, I wanted to see if a simple approach would work.

  1. Ran the pre-upgrade checker
  2. Simply detached the DB in SQL (SQL Manager only), forcing the connections to close
  3. Copied the DB to the new server
  4. Re-attached the original DB to the 2007 server
  5. Attached the copied DB to the 2010 box
  6. Ran the shell command to attach to a web application
  • All seems to work

The content databases in question are quite simple and test units, and we are moving from the staging server to production, is this a valid approach?

Also, before I try wih a 'real' db, is there any harm done in detaching/re-attaching on the original 2007 server?

After DB Content upgrade/attach of a content database, user permissions are not retained

Hello, we are working on an upgrade to Sharepoint 2010 using the new farm and dbattach method for migrating the content dbs.  We have just finished successfully moving/migrating the SSP and user profiles from 2007 to 2010 and have started on the content databases. The sites upgrade and move over okay and accept the visual upgrade okay. But users do not have the permissions they should have. If you look in the People and Groups area, everyone is listed there as they are supposed to be, but they are not able to add documents for example even if they are in the owners group.

Is there something else you have to do to get the permissions to move over correctly to the new farm?

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. cannot attach database from server explorer

Hello all,

In Server Management Studio, I am attempting to attach a database.  After selecting the database in the wizard

I receive an error: This file is in use, Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program.

I don't have SSMS open, and have restarted the computer to make sure the memory is cleared.  Not sure what to try next.  Any ideas?

Detach/Attach database question

I recently restored a database from SQL7 to SQL2005.  When restoring the database I needed to create a c:\data\data folder or else it would not restore the mdf and ldf files. I would like to move these files to a new location.  Copied the the two files to a new folder, C:\database.  Using the sql studio manager, preformed a task to detach the database, then attach the database with the new location. This seemed to work, I am able to access my application that uses this database.  However, any changes I make to the program, are not writing changes back to the mdf file.  When I open the program, these changes are still in place, but the mdf file should be updated, correct?  When the database files were stored in the c:\data\data folder, any little change I made to the program changed the modified time for the mdf file. Is there something missing or where could these changes be written to?
