Migration from WSS 3.0 & MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010

Hi All,

I am kiran and working on some migration project.

I am stuck with some basic questions,

1. I have got couple of hudred WSS 3.0 sites

2. I have got couple of hundred MOSS 2007 Enterrprise sites

I need to migrate both the above to SharePoint Server 2010 platform.

My Question is,

1. Can I directly migrate WSS 3.0 sites to SharePoint 2010 env? Is there any need to step up to MOSS 2007 and then to SharePoint 2010? Becuase all documentations talk about migrating MOSS 2007 to SS 2010.

Your help is appreiciated.

Also can you link me to some sound help links please?

Help to manage migration from farm WSS 2.0/MOSS 2003 to farm WSS 3.0/ MOSS 2007

we need to move an application (only a site collection/portal site)  hosted in farm using  WSS 2.0(SharePoint Portal Server 2003 integrated with Project Server 2003) to a new farm where is installed WSS 3.0 and SharePoint Portal Server 2007.

We do not care at all about the part managed by Project Server 2003 . We are interested to obtain all lists, items and users information stored in the application (basically all the content part managed by MOSS 2003).

Which is the best strategy to get the job done ?

We have tried these steps to check if our strategy could work but it didn’t:

Moving MOSS 2007 from 2x Dedicated servers to 1x VM - Migration Tutorials?

Greetings all,

We're recently phased out our MOSS 2007 environment (after migrating to MOSS 2010), and need to reclaim the servers from our 2007 install. However, we need to provide access to the old 2007 environment for 9-12 months more.

So, my plan is to migrate the Content DB and FE from their split-environment (two server) solution into a single VM that we can power up when needed.

Knowing that there are a great number of quality tutorials in existence for MOSS 2007, I wonder if someone might recommend tutorials/posts they've found useful for migrating the Content DB and/or FE (this is similar to a disaster-recovery situation in which the FE and DB are rebuilt, no?), beyond the TechNet articles on the matter.

Thanks for your help!

SP2010 inplace upgrade - leaves MOSS 2007 installed

Is it right that MOSS 2007 would remain installed in the Add/Remove programs listing after an in-place upgrade to SharePoint 2010?

I think this is causing issues with my ability to run a command to enable DPM to backup my farm.  (../dpm/bin/configuresharepoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection)

Master Pages in MOSS 2007

'MasterPages' feature in sharepoint 2007 makes the entire customization job easy.In 2003 we used to face lot of issues to get the same look and feel and the standard behaviour for overall site. In 2007, customizing the look and feel for the entire site can be done in a simple way by using 'MasterPage' feature.

Content Types in MOSS 2007

In this article I will try to describe the one of the best feature in Microsoft office Share Point 2007 called Content Types.

Content types are simply collection of contents. Each content in a Content type can have different settings.Basically it is a reusable collection of settings which you want to apply to a particular category of contents.

MOSS 2007 and MySite in Outlook

Looking to get the My Site feature working in Outlook 2007 when you right click someone's name in an email. I've followed this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968115) and I can add/remove various fields but when it comes to the My Site feature it nevers show a link to the users Sharepoint My Site. It's strange because the URL for people's My Site is in AD. It's not like I even get a error message where the My Site option should be - the field never displays...help!

Unable to open pdf from document library MOSS 2007

When I click on a pdf document uploaded in a document library it comes up with a blank page.

I guess it's trying to open pdf on the browser. I turned off "Display PDF in browser " option in Adobe Preferences, but it doesn't help, same issue.

I tried other browsers too, it's the same issue.

I am able to open all other pdf files local to my machine fine.

I am using IE 8 on my machine (Windows 7) and the Sharepoint server is MOSS 2007.

MOSS 2007 License and Pricing

I just need a small help related to MOSS 2007 License and Pricing.

The scenario is that we have the following number of servers and users are 750.

# moss-SQl1 - (DB server 1)
# moss-SQl2 - (Mirrored DB server 2)
# moss-app -    (Application server)
# WFE1 -  (Web front end server 1)
# WFE2 -           (Web front end server 2)
# MOSS-SQLWITNESS –   (witness server for database mirroring)

To my understanding we need to purchase:
MOSS 2007 Server Licenses -- 2 @ 4424$
Enterprise CALs           -- 750 @ 75$ + 94$ for standard CAL

and it amounts to: 2 * 4424 + (75+94) * 750 =   8848 + 126750 = 135598$.

I think this calculation has gone wrong somewhere. Could you please correct me if I assumed anything wrong here.

One more question is: If we purchage one CAL, can this be used by only one user?

Thanks, Chandralekha
