How to add custom properties to terms in the SharePoint 2010 managed metadata term store?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

There is a "Term.CustomProperties" collection to get the collection of custom property objects for the current Term object from the read-only dictionary.
But where and how to define and set custom properies for terms? This dictionary seems to be read-only by default.

Any help / documentation would be appreciated. / Frank

Sharepoint 2010 - The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Applica

So I've already installed hot fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976394.  Rebooted server and I still get this message.  The account being used is part of local adminstrators group and has full connection permissions for managed metadata service.  Is there anything else I'm missing or needs to be done?

SharePoint Designer 2010: Business data connectivity metadata store is unavailable

Running SharePoint Server 2010 RTM. Fresh install in production not via the wizard but a vanilla install and bringing services up one by one. Just brought up the Business Data Connectivity Service. Other services currently up are Managed Metadata Service and User Profile Service. Two web applications with services deployed to both web applications. The scenario below holds true when connecting to a site on either web application. 1) Open a site, i.e., root portal site, in SharePoint Designer 2010 2) Click External Content Types. Error returned: "The Business Data Connectivity Metadata Store is currently unavailable" is returned. 3) Click Ok then click New | External Content Type. Error returned "THe server was unable to process the request due to an internal error. For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults...". The Business Data Connectivity Service status in Central Administration is Started. Any ideas?

list of employees - custom list or managed metadata term set ?

Hi all, I am working on a intranet site for a small company with 25 employees. They want to create a site for tracking employee training. Most of the items on this site are going to be associated with an employee entity. What is the best way to manage the employee entity ? should I create a custom list called employee or should I create a term set called employee containing the names of all 25 employees ? In a related question is it possible to add a "people picker" field to a custom list ? ( e.g. Training schedule list ) I note that for 'assign to' columns SharePoint provides a dialog which enables you to browse and select users from active directory. Is there a way to add similar lookup functionality to a custom list in SharePoint ? thanks and regards, Counie

SharePoint 2010 Search Service - does not escape forbidden signs in Managed Metadata fields

I´m using SharePoint 2010s Search Service to get items from a list. In the list I have managed metadata field for Item. When I search on Item "Item 1 & 2" I get xml that is incorrect. SharePoint does not escape the &. (The mapping is correct so when I search on an item not containg & it returns correct xml.)

But if I in my description field writes "A description & some more text" then & is escaped.

Anyone seen this before? Is there some way to configure the search service to escape forbidden signs to return none broken xml?

Sharepoint 2010 Missing Managed Metadata Service

According to the following MS article, the Tags feature is linked to the Managed Metadata Service, which is required to use Tags. For some reason I cannot find this feature as described in the article where it specified Managed Metadata Service is located in the Application Management section. What should I check to make sure this feature/service can be enabled?

Custom web part properties are not saved in SharePoint 2010 visual web part

I have created my first visual web part in SP2010.  In 2007 version I didn't use user controls so all of my code was in a single file for the most part.  Now I've separated out the code.  Everything works great and I like this a lot better (more like traditional ASP.NET development) with one exception.  In my bootstrap .cs file (I call it that because it does nothing but load the user control file) I put all of my custom web part properties.  Then in my web part code-behind I reference them thru an instance of the containing class.  I must have something incorrectly configured because none of the changes to the properties at runtime are getting updated in the code.  Here's a filtered view of how I have it wired together:

Sample property in the top level .cs file:

private string m_ImagePath = "sites/myapp/images1/branded_image.png";
   WebDisplayName("Relative path to header image"),
   WebDescription("Relative path to header image"),

Using Infopath 2010 to customize a SharePoint 2010 list with columns using Managed Metadata

Hello All-

I would like to customize the "new" form on a SharePoint list that has some columns that use managed metadata term sets as options.  Unfortunately, when I do so, I get the message:

"InfoPath cannot generate a form template for the SharePoint list."

The following fields in the SHarePoint list are not supported because of their data type and will not be available in InfoPath Designer:

-MyColumnName (TaxonomyFieldTypeMulti)

This error message seems to be pretty self explanatory, but it boggles my mind that this would be the case.  Can I really not customize my list "new" form in Infopath if I am using columns with managed metadata?  Any workarounds?

How to add/append metadata stored within the Sharepoint Term Store to a crawled item

Hi All,

I need someone to explain to me how to add/append metadata stored within the Sharepoint Term Store to a crawled item (i.e., can it only be done via External Content Type?). Bascially i need to know if there is any Out of the box solution for this?

Much appreciated.

Auto-Update Managed Metadata Term Store from External DB or List

Hi all,

I have been able to import terms using the .CSV file within the MMSA Term Store, but is there a way to auto-update the terms from an external list. Example: An external database already has terms and adds terms on a regular basis. Is there a method for updating the Term Store automatically when terms are added in the external source. Perhaps creating a SharePoint List populated with external data and somehow linking this up to the Managed Metadata terms? I know that System keywords are added to the term store when a user tags an item, but is there a way to tie into this functionality for managed metadata?

Sharepoint 2010 Custom Field Types & Field Properties ( Editor Control )

I've been searching this forum and all over the web for a working example of how to implement a Editor Control with a Sharepoint 2010 custom field type.

The only documentation on MSDN mentions the implementation of IFieldEditor. There are no propper examples of how to implement properties on custom field types.

All I could find on MSDN regarding this issue was :

Has anyone done anything simmilar and know of a propper example of how to implement it?

Create custom workflow using Managed Metadata and Sharepoint Designer

Hello all,

We have a very specific question from one of our customers concerning managed metadata and workflows that I can’t seem to figure out. Maybe you could give me a hand. This is the situation:

They want a taxonomy store with managed metadata. The departments of the customer are stored here (in a branched way). When a user adds an document to a document library he or she has to fill in the metadata field for the department so it will be connected to this document. Depending on the department they want to assign an approval task to a different manager.

The Business Data Connectivity Metadata Store is currently unavailable in sharepoint designer 2010

I am getting the following error when runnind SP designer and trying to create new  external content types.

"The Business Data Connectivity Metadata Store is currently unavailable."

checked in ULS Logger, the actual error is "SharePoint Foundation Claims Authentication 8305 Critical An exception occurred when trying to establish endpoint for context: The 'CustomBinding'.'http://tempuri.org/' binding for the 'IWSTrustChannelContract'.'http://tempuri.org/' contract is configured with an authentication mode that requires transport level integrity and confidentiality. However the transport cannot provide integrity and confidentiality.. 5d0b275a-dfa8-4834-ba5a-d8ed7d58abd1"

googled it, found some fix:

1. install the hotfix

2. simply checking the services are running

3. checking for necessary security permissions on the BDC Service Application

4. using the 'disableloop
