Application Hangs with the default font "Segoe UI"

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hello All,

I got a problem after installing VS2010, i have already reinstalled VS2010 but the problem persist and now it occurs on VS2008 too.

In my application (WPF and .NET 3.5 SP1) when i open one of the application screens. The application hangs and stopped to work. I discovered that this is because of a GroupBox that have in text Header a Fontsize=16, if i let the fontsize default the problem dont occurs, i use default font "Segoe UI".

I did some testing and discovered that if I simply create a new application in WPF and .NET 3.5 and add a button on the screen and increase the font size of button to size of 14, 16 or 18, when I give F5 the application will hang. In design mode its works, but when i run the application its presents the problem.

The font dont have any problem because i can use it normally on "Notepad" or "Word" and when i create a new application in WPF and .NET 4 its works perfectly, it just give problems in .NET 3.5. Anyway i already reinstalled the Segoe UI font too.

If i change the font to Segoe UI Symbol or any other and change the size to 14, 16, 18 its works normally, just with the default font Segoe UI and font

Is it possible to change the title bar background and the font style on default template?

Hello,

Is there any way to change the default top link /title bar picture and the fonts of the title without breaking anything in the layout/structure?

I have changed the theme to Obsedian and I would also like to change the picture of the title bar of this theme and also the font/style of the title, top link bar, menus..etc. Is there a way to do this?

Please note: I am using WSS 3.0 and I am not the Administrator of the sharepoint. I am only the site admin of some sites on this sharepoint. I can do some basic customization using SPD.

Basically, what I am trying to do is that I want to set up a sharepoint site, however I want to make it NOT look like a sharepoint site.Well I know this is possible, but for my case it might be just partially possible due to the limitation that I am not the Site collection admin and hence I do not have direct access to the server itself.

What I want is to hide most of the sharepoint links/menus/bars, etc and use my own buttons/hyperlinks etc .. for user to navigate on the sites.

Thanks in advance for your help/advices.

Regards

Rooven

Default Application "does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point"

Hi, When I create a brand new WPF application project in Visual Studio 2010 and immediately try to run it, I get the error WpfApplication1.exe does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point. App.xaml's build action is set to ApplicationDefinition. I think it's not generating App.g.cs. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Oulook.exe hangs when Domain User launches application through Interop windows 2003 sp2

Hello,I have a problem using Interop.Outlook on a win2k3 sp2 server. For windows 2003 version prior to sp1 i could use a specific identity for application pool and i had no problems launching outlook.User was authenticated and delegated correclty. With sp2 the Outlook.exe process is launched by the domain user specified as identity (also visible on Task Manager Processes) but no exception or time out is ever thrown.  The only way that i can make this to work is when i set impersonate=true in web config (without setting userName and password as this would have exactly the same affect with the application pool identity).Are there any permissions that i can set to overcome this?Help would be greatly appreciated. Application hangs (100% cpu) outside debugger, but when debugging it runs ok.

Be prepared, this is a tricky one. One of my customers he is building a proof of concept using my software components. When running outside the debugger, the application will hang, using 100% CPU in the main thread. At this point attaching the debugger is unsuccessful. When running inside the debugger, the application runs fine. (.NET framework 3.5, Windows 7 Ultimate x86, running in VirtualBox (virtual environment)). Using Process Explorer I've tried to find some hints as to what's going on. Showing a callstack in PE at some arbitrary point when the app hangs is shown at the bottom of this post. The one line that caught my eye was this: halacpi.dll!HalClearSoftwareInterrupt+0x355 I googled around a bit, looks like a number of people ran into this, but nobody had found the true cause of/solution to this problem. One that came close was mentioning a patch for .NET framework 1.1, but there seems no information on later framework versions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904705 Some more details from my customer seem to point in the direction of GraphicsPath, which is used quite intensively and I know this class does a fair bit of switching to native land and back (PInvoke, also mentioned in the patch above). We really need to get this one solved, so let me know what to do to get some developer support on this one. Thanks, - Wout ntkrnlpa.exe!KeSetEvent+0x2a1 ntkrnlpa.e

Default FontFamily for application

I want to create at style that will set the fontfamily for my entire application and allow me to change the font family in one place and have the new font show up throughout my application.  I created the following style but my controls like my labels still default to segoe.  How can I create a style that will set my all my controls to the same font family except where I override the style with a local style.

 <Style TargetType="{x:Type Control}">
   <Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="Constantia"/>

How to set the default culture Info for all thread of an application independant from the Windows UI

A classic 'european' topic?

I am working with Windows7Pro in German, and VS2010 in English. I whish I had all exception handling in english.
Thus, I set the explicly the current culture to english:
 var culture = new CultureInfo("en-us");
 Application.CurrentCulture = culture;
        Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = culture;
        Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = culture;

But I do still have some exception in German, because 'by design', .NET Framework considers the Windows UI language as default culture when a new thread in created (e.g. by GUI controls), as I read here http://www.dotnetmonster.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/winform/14177/setting-culture-of-threads

What is the motivation for such a design? It has always been a problem for us in Europe working with multi languages: it is quite difficult to ensure the software is working properly whereever it is rolled out.
Is there a way to define the default culture of all children threads?

The default web application could not be determined. Set the SiteUrl property in feature

I am getting this error when I deploy a BCS feature generated by BCSMetaMan:

The default web application could not be determined. Set the SiteUrl property in feature Feature_Feature1 to the URL of the desired site and retry activation.

Searching the Internet tells me I need to put in a property in my feature file that sets the default site. However, what if I need to be able to deploy this other sites. Is there a way to set the value so it will use whatever site is the solution is being deployed to?

Unable to pass default network credentials from a .NET / SharePoint application to Web Services

Require some help in passing the authentication of a logged-in user to a web services (which is a wsdl file added as web reference to the application) from an ASP.NET application/ SharePoint 2010 portal. When the application calls the web service, the default network credentials need to be passed to the web service to get authenticated to use the data repository. This web service is used for searching a data repository depending on the logged in user's credentials and search query.

We have made necessary changes required in the applications like.

Necessary changes in web.config (like authentication mode to Windows, impersonation is made true). Install client certificates to the trusted location.

Enable IE 8.0 to use Integrated Windows authentication (Internet Explorer -->Tools-->Internet Options -->Advanced--> Security --> Enable Integrated Windows Authentication.

Change Default Sort for Dynamic Data Web Application

Hi,

I just created a dynamic data web application and setup a simple .EDMX file. Next, I created meta-data / partial classes to ensure that my integer identifiers wouldn't show up:

// ...

[ScaffoldColumn(false)]

public object TableId { get; set; }

 // ...

I wanted to now set the up the list pages so they sort using a different attribute ("Name" in this case). Anyone know if this is possible / how to do it?

Thanks!

Kevin

use the default sql services in a console sequential workflow application

Hello all,

I have configured my console workflow application to use the default sql service. However, when I run it in VS2008, it generates a TypeLoadException:

"Can not load type "System.Workflow.Runtime.Hosting from assembly System.Workflow.Runtime, Version=3.0.0000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=xxx"

So, my concern is

  1. How to configure a workflow application to use the default sql service?
  2. Are there any requirements for SQL version? Is there any settings we need to configure in SQL server?

Some tips

  1. my current app.config file looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <configuration>
     <config

Is embedding of fonts in wpf application will save from corrupted font cache?

Hi

Recently I had corrupted font cache. I fixed it by removal of cache file and restarting of Wpf font cache service. Also I updated my outdated driver.

However there're lot's of users on customer side without administrative rights and there're no way to upgrade their pretty old drivers of videocards.

Could you say me what if i embed all fonts application use in application resources - will it help those guys to not relay on Font Cache ?

Web Site/ Web Application templates seem changed; give me default.aspx only with site.master in VWD

Using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express

I was used to creating a web app anytime and I would get a default page for starters and be happy.  But today I find that when I pick either the ASP.NET Web Site or ASP.NET Web Application templates I get site.master and a bunch of site admin files that I don't want.  Alternately when I select the empty versions of those templates, I get almost nothing at all.  An almost empty web.config page and no Default.aspx page.  There is nothing magical about having a default.aspx page in place, but it is an indicator of a change when I can only get a virtually completely empty website or a website with a bunch of bells and whistles I don't want.

Also, for some reason, when I create a new app or website as just noted, in the Solution Explorer I get aspx.designer.cs files showing as well as web.config files for both debug and release.

Somehow some settings and templates must have changed, or am I missing something here?  How can I get my settings/templates to go back to the way they were?
