GoDaddy.Com is a negligent parent, so can somebody help this newbie set up admin/user logins?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I'm becoming increasing frustrated with the lack of support at GoDaddy.Com.  Today they're not even answering their phones!

All I'm trying to do is set up an admin and several user accounts on my site so I and several users can log on. I'm not even trying to do it remotely, but on their SQL server.

1. Using Query Analyzer I created a few users:

INSERT INTO aspnet_Users(ApplicationID,  UserName, LoweredUserName,  LastActivityDate).... That worked.

2. Next, I created a couple of roles:

INSERT INTO aspnet_Roles(ApplicationID, RoleName, LoweredRoleName).... That worked.

3. I then put the users in these roles:

INSERT INTO aspnet_UsersInRoles(UserID, RoleID)....  That, too, worked.

4. But then I tried to put those users, roles, and UsersInRoles into aspnet_Membership according to their own documentation--Activating ASP.NET 2.0 Personal Web Site User Account  http://help.godaddy.com/topic/216/article/885 using  UPDATE aspnet_Membership SET IsApproved = 1 WHERE UserId = 'MyUserId'

Nothing.  Although Query Analyzer tells me the command executed successfully, the aspnet_Membership table shows no entries.

It's my understanding that getting entries into this table is critical for the login procedure. So can somebod

How to determine if current SQL User is admin or owner?

I wish to determine, from my C# application, if the current user has admin or owner rights to the database they are connected to. I beleive I have all the information required: Servername Database name Windows/Database auth username (If database auth) password (if database auth) I'm trying to find a way that using the smo objects (smo.user), but as of yet I cant quite work it out: - How to get the appropriate user - How to determine if that user is an admin/owner. Any tips would be appreciated. If I have posted to the wrong forum, let me know - I couldnt find one that was obviously more appropriate. Thanks.

How to check if a given user is local admin or not

Hi, How to check if a user (may be domain user also) is part of local administrators group or not? Note I am NOT talking about checking of current logged in user. I should send the username & passowrd of any user (may or may not be domain user) & that should flag me whether that user is local admin or not. Please help.

How to let a non admin business user run a replication snapshot job?

According to the msdn library, I would have to give the non admin user (User1) SQLAgentUserRole privileges. But it also says that it has to be a local job and not a multi server job. Is the snapshot agent job a local or multi server job? Considering the snapshot agent is a local job and i make USER1 the owner of that job. He should be able to run the job rite? I need to give USER1 the ability to run sp_start_job to start the snapshot agent ONLY! (and not any other jobs). So what are the steps to do this? I also read that the only way to achieve this is by creating a proxy account? Is there an article somewhere that best describes this?

Dynamically adding User Controls -- newbie question!

I am new to ASP.NET (coming from ColdFusion, thank goodness I'm away from that!).  And I am have THE hardest time understanding how to work with forms in ASP.NET.  Here's what I am doing:Dynamically add User Controls to a PlaceHolder based on some int value (which currently is passed in a HiddenField).Fire an event if the WebControls inside of the User Control change, then handle that event in the Main Page (i.e. save the input to DB)When the user clicks the "Next/Continue" button, the next controls for the next page are loaded.And I guess maybe I just can't seem to get how things work in ASP.NET, because I am really struggling with the general idea of how ASP.NET flows.  Should I be dynamically loading the controls in Page_Init, or Page_Load?  Or should I load the controls when the buttonclick event is fired?Do I have to add the axCtrl.OnDataChange += new EventHandler(HandleAxControlDataChange); line on Page_Load?  Or should I put this in When I first load the UserControl, I need to initialize some WebControls within the UserContorl.  Is there a way to know if I have loaded new user controls into my placeholder?  I can't use Page.IsPostback, because after the first page, every page is a postback from the buttonclick.Any help for this confused newbie would be GREATLY appreciated!!Here's what I have: pu

How to Access Parent Page (.aspx) control (IDs) from its child User Control (.ascx)

I have a parent .aspx page that has a asp:panel control in it, and this parent .aspx is also referencing a user control that I registered in that .aspx. Lets just call it usercontrolA.ascx for this post.The user control has a radiobuttonlist itself.Based on a selection from the radiotbuttonlist in the user control, I want to be able to hide the asp:panel in my .aspx (parent) but unfortunately I cant' get it to work:parentPanel.visible = true;  <<< I trried this in usercontrolA.ascx.csBut the user control doesn't know about the panel in the parent .aspxSo do I need to expose that somehow from the parent so that I can access it from the code behind of the child .ascx?  How?

Need to allow user to view all logins on SQL Server

SQL Server 2005/2008. By default, on SQL Server any user can see only his login or NT Groups, which he belongs to (both through Security\Logins in SSMS and sys.server_princapals DMV). I need to permit one power user to see all SQL Server logins. But only see, not change. Can you help me? P.S. VIEW ANY DEFINITION helps, but this permissions are too much.

How to add colleagues to a user profile without admin priviliges programatically ...

Hi,I am working on a kind of a social networking site and the use case is as follows.1. User A sends a friendship request to User B.2. User B accepts.3. User A is added as a colleague in User B's Profile.4. User B is added as a colleague in User A's Profile.Step 2-4 are done using User B's login. Step 2 and 3 go fine but in step 4 I get the following error "This operation requires you to be managing your own data or have administrator privileges.". The API being used is UserProfile.Colleagues.Create (...);What is required is obvious but not possible in this scenario. SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges does not help.  Any other way of accomplishing this.Thanks.

newbie question: change login name of dbo user

My database has a user "dbo" which is dbo of all database objects. The login name for this user is e.g. "Login1". Now I need to change the login name for user "dbo" from "Login1" to a new login name "Login2".

It is not possible to change the related login name of the user "dbo" in the user's properties dialog. And it is also not possible to change or remove the dbo relation in the login name's properties dialog (because a dbo user can not be removed).

Is there any possibility to change the login name of an dbo user? How can I do it?

Newbie User Import Question re: One way external trust & Security

There is a business initiative to install a Dev Sharepoint 2007 server in our Trusting Domain. My internal corp network will be Corp.COM. The 3rd party network will be 3rd.COM.  Currently 3rd.COM has a Oneway External Trust pointing inward to Corp.com.  Corp.COM Domain and Forest levels are WIndows 2003. 3rd.com Domain level is Windows 2000 Mixed and the Forest is Windows 2000.

The Dev sharepoint server is located in 3rd.Com domain and the consultant is trying to import Corp.com users by pointing the user profile connection to Corp.com active directory. Needless to say this will fail because there is a one way trust in place so 3rd.com users are allowed to read Corp.Com active directory. Not to mention there are no firewall ports open for this anyway. My questions are...

How can we securely allow this sharepoint server to import in 3rd.com to import users from Corp.com?

Ideally we would like to use a service account from Corp.com to import the accounts. We would also like to either

(A) encrypt the sharepoint servers communication to our Corp.com active directory. because there are Two firewalls between the trust ports would be specifically opened from Sharepoint server <-> Corp.com DC

(b) some how use the existing trust to facilitate this procedures. no additional ports opened on the firewalls.

User login and Admin login on the same site

I have a login page for my users. And I want my admin login to have its own page. Right now I have to login as an admin in the same page as the users.

How can I have 2 login on my site? I get an error if I have authentication forms on both my web.configs.

how do you balance admin and developer roles in managing security/audience and troubleshooting user

We're a 500-person services business, relatively new to SharePoint and recreating many legacy applications in SharePoint.  We have a couple developers and an administrator and have been trying very hard to segregate those roles.  The administrator controls Audiences, SharePoint groups, Distribution Lists, etc.  Developers have read access to Active Directory, but no rights to view or edit SP groups, Global Audiences, or Distribution Lists.   When user issues arise, the developer must always suspect a group membership problem but can't know enough to confirm or deny.

I would love to hear how others handle this.  Do your developers have admin rights? (And what problems does that cause?).  Do you have strict naming conventions to differentiate GA from SP from Dist List?  Do you have 3rd party tools to synchronize groups, so you can have perfect confidence that the Global Audience "Busboys" contains exactly the same users as the Active Directory group "Busboys?"  Is there a way for developers to have read-only access to the various groups so they can troubleshoot membership problems without endangering security?

Calling parent page method from user control

I looked up the  threads about  this. But I couldn't do it...

this is my method in aspx.page:

public  void MesajlariGetir()
        DataSet ds = new DataSet();

        SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection();
        SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("msjlarigetir", con);
        cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
        cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Kime", Session["kullaniciadi"].ToString());
        con.ConnectionString = cnnstr;
        SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd);
        pds.DataSource = ds.Tables[0].AsDataView();
        pds.AllowPaging = true;
        pds.PageSize = 10;
        pds.CurrentPageIndex = CurrentPage;

Active Directory User Shares - Connecting to Share Parent instead of Share

Hi all -

I'm having a bit of an issue. I just started at a job and have a terrible mess to deal with in the wake of my predicessor.

the main problem that i'm looking to fix right now is this:

The staff at my organization have a shared drive that is located at \\fs1\staff$\%username%

Sometimes (maybe 30% of the time) users will log on and they will connect to \\fs1\staff$ and, thus, be able to view everyone's user folders. Now i have restrictions set up so that the users cannot access each others folders, but they can still see them and it is causing a riot amongst the employees.

I would greatly appreciate any insight as to what could be causing this.

I am willing to provide any information that is required (i know i was vague, but I'm not really sure what to include)

thanks all

Workflow doesn't strat automaticaly under non admin user account.

I need an email to be send to specified e-mail when an item is change by any user.

I ticked "Automatically start this workflow whenever an item is changed".

When I make any changes in the field by admin account workflow automatically starts, no problems with it.

But when I make any changes in the field by any other user account workflow doesn't start automatically. I still can start it manually but I need it to start automatically.

Thank you.
