How to get child property inside parent class, with lambda?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi all,

Could you answer me how to do next, please? How to do this with Lambda? Is it possible to delegate some object instance and use its properties and methods in case if this method doesn't know type of delegated object?

class class_a {
    public string getChildData<T> (T dynamicInstance) {
        return dynamicInstance.prop;

class class_b : a {
    public string prop = "prop_b";

class class_c : a {
    public string prop = "prop_c";

var inst_b = new b ();
var inst_c = new c ();

Purpose : to get child property inside parent class?

Thanks, Artem

lifespan of a property inside a static class in IIS

I want to know , how good / bad is it to save configuration values in a static properties?

I am creating an application which reads configuration from an XML file and a DataContext file, instead of sending the CustomConfig class into the configuration.xml each time I tought about using an ReadXml() method on application_start at the global.ascx

the ReadXml() method would save the data in static properties of CustomConfig and whereever I would want to read that particler data I would ask CustomConfig.PROERTY_NAME

My question is ? how smart it is ? how long does IIS would save the data in a static member? (if as long as the application exists then I'm ok as long as I add the ReadXml() in the application_start)

would like to hear your comment..

GridView Parent Child View with JQuery Effects

I was just checked how to add some more cool effects to the GridView control using JQuery. In this post I will display parent-child data in the GridView control with some help of the wonderful JQuery library.

Let's first populate the GridView control.

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

Using a GenericHandler as a WebResource inside a Class Library

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I'm trying to make a control class library. I want to have a GenericHandler as a WebResource so I could call it from the web project that will use that control.

I need this handler will get parameters from the query string and return JSON data acourding to what it get in the QS.

I know how to create JS and images WebResources, so I tried the same on a generic handler I added to the class library project but all it does is return the source of the handler file and not the result.

Is what I'm trying to do possible? If so, what should I do?

How to keep the hover for Parent menu and set the selected menu item css for child menu item?

I'm using cssfriendly control adapter for menu. My asp.net menu control's datasource is a sitemap file I'm using which contains all the urls.

I have the following questions:

  1. Is there a way to keep the parent menu item hovered while hovering over the respective child menu items?
  2. Is there a way to keep the child menu item selected? I am able to set the css for the parent menu, however I was wondering if the same is possible with the child items.

Please help! Smile

Using Dynamic Property inside Html Helper with Razor fires an error

I have the following with Razor:

@Html.GoogleAjax(View.GoogleAjaxKey, new String[,] { { "jquery", "1.4.2" } })

And the I get a strange error:

  'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper<object>' has no applicable method named 'GoogleAjax' but appears to have an extension method by that name. Extension methods cannot be dynamically dispatched. Consider casting the dynamic arguments or calling the extension method without the extension method syntax.

What is strange is that it works fine using:

@Html.GoogleAjax("123", new String[,] { { "jquery", "1.4.2" } })

I tried the following code line:

And the key is displayed just fine so the problem is how I use the value of @View.GoogleAjaxKey into Html.GoogleAjax.

Do I need to change something on my Html Helper? Here it is:

    public static MvcHtmlString GoogleAjax(this HtmlHelper helper, String key, String[,] libraries) {

Two modalpopups as a parent-child

When I  open two modalpopups, one over another, there is unexpected order.

After click on "Open Parent Panel", and click on "Open Child Panel",

Child Panel (newone) is under the Parent.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

What should I do to get it in "normal order"?

The code is:

    <asp:ScriptManager ID="A" runat="Server">

InfoPath and Access - two parent tables and one child table

Hi there,

I'm trying to link an InfoPath form to an Access database, I want to connect the InfoPath form to 3 tables in the Access database but InfoPath will only recognise parent-child relationships in a series (e.g. the "Company" table is the parent to the "Customer" table, which is again parent to the "Orders" table)

I need to have two parent tables and one child table, though (e.g. "Customer" is parent to "Orders", but "Inventory_Item" is also parent to "Orders"). Is there any way to establish this in InfoPath? I'm using Windows XP, InfoPath 2007 and Access 2007.

Cheers, Patrick

How to assign data from 1 DataReader into Parent/Child object??

Hi I have a parent & child table. Parent - User UserID UserName Status 1 Shallin A 2 How A   Child - UserAccess UserID Country Default 1 US 0 1 UK 0 1 MY 1 2 SG 0 2 HK 0 2 MY 1   I also have parent & child object class.       I would like to use 1 C# function and 1 SP to handle the retrieve portion but I have 1 problem. I'm not sure how to assign the value from Reader to the object.   I do something like this but I only get 1 country which is the last country. if (dr.HasRows) {     while (dr.Read())     {         User objUser = new User();         objUser.UserID = dr["User_ID"].ToString().Trim();         objUser.UserName = dr["UserName"].ToString().Trim();         objUser.UserStatus = dr["Status"].ToString().Trim();         UserAccess objUserAccess = new UserAccess();         objUserAccess.Country = dr["Country"].ToString().Trim();         objUserAccess.Default = dr["Default"].ToString().Trim();         objUser.UserAccessCollection = new UserA
