Looking for an alt way to access the "edit menu"

I have discovered that personal views do not "stick" when accessing the Properties with through the "Type (icon linked to document) ".  --if user is using a personal view and they access the properties and then go back, the view reverts to the default view.

If accessing Properties through :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  the Personal views remain.

I am trying to deemphasize the document names in the library I am developing.  Is there another way to give the end user access to the "Edit Menu" apart from the :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  ?

Windows 7 64bit Registry access using x86 assembly

Hi guys, I have an assembly that is complied in x86 release mode. The assembly tries to access  a particular registry key in Win7 the key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion  -> ProductID(tried to read this value) As the assembly is in x86 it tries to look for the key in SysWow64 node HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion -> ProductID(tried to read this value) When i went through the registry i found that the string "ProductID" is missing (!) .. (may be because i have trial version of windows 7 x64)? I just wanted to ask , is there a way to read registry key (not in wow6432node ) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion  -> ProductID  in x86 mode? Im using the following  code RegistryKey regkey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion", false); //reads in wow6432Node for x86 assembly string strProductID = string.empty; if (((regkey != null))) { // Get key Value of ProductId. strProductID = (string)regkey.GetValue("ProductId"); if ((string.IsNullOrEmpty(strProductID))) { //try reading another path for "ProductID" } } return strProductID ; PS:When i complie the same assembly as "Any Cpu" , the above code returns corr

"Only their own" allows users to edit, then shows access denied page

I am managing a WSS 3.0 portal.  I have created custom lists where a group has contribute permissions.  Under List Settings|Advanced Settings, when I set Edit Access to "Only their own" or "None", my test users can see the Edit Icon and the Edit Item menu option, and bring up the Edit Form.  When they click "OK", they get the Access Denied page.  My experience in that past is that they should not even been shown the option to edit, and they should get Access Denied if they somehow navigate to the EditForm.aspx page.  I even tested this on a brand new site, with three Links lists, each with different Edit Access Levels (All, None, Only their own).  I added one user with contribute permissions.  He had the same result: He could get all the way to EditForm.aspx, but got "Access Denied" when he submitted his changes.  What can I do to fix this?Christopher W. Using UserName to enable disable access to InfoPath form fields

Hi Everyone, I have created a browser enable form in InfoPath and restrict certain fields depending on the official logged on User Name. Now this works most of the time but my problem has to do with the "case" of User Names for some of the site users. In most cases the User Name is an exact match but for some reason, some user's names are reported by SharePoint (the Welcome at top of screen) with some parts captilized. Example - my hidden filed on the form reports my user name as xrs_master but the Welcome up top says XRS_Master - and the fields act as though I am not the correct user and won't enable. On the other hand there are users who's user name matches the case exactly and all works fine. Why is SharePoint reporting the user name differently? And if this is the reason they don't match, how do I fix it? Any Ideas? Many thanks in advance for help!

How can I disable the LWin and RWin keyboard keys?

I would like to modify my application to prevent the user from launching the start menu while my application is running.  Is there a logical, simple, sensible means of doing this from a Windows Form?  My application is built in Visual Studio 2005 using the C# language.  Thanks for any assistance you can offer on this matter.

SPSearchJobDefinition - Requested registry access is not allowed

Hi   My Sharepoint sever logs a critical error in the event viewer every 5min:   The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Administration.SPSearchJobDefinition (ID 1a440d58-e28d-4e7c-becb-8dcef428bbf7) threw an exception. More information is included below. Requested registry access is not allowed.   I have searched high and low for any answers but to no avail. Everything else on the server seems to be functioning fine after a lot of setup struggles (the server is our TFS server, with reports and sharepoint all on 1 box)   ANY ideas would be helpful and appreciated   Regards   W

SharePoint - Item - Edit Properties - Access Denied Error

I have a SharePoint 2007 EE Site  (with patches up to version 12.0.0.6327) running on Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008.
I ported an existing site from a different domain to this server by backing up/restoring the content database. The site is running fine.

I added a new sub-site and here is where I have the issue. If I create a document library, add a document, and then use the drop-down on the item to pick "edit properties" I bounce to the SP Error: Access Denied screen. My account is a site admin and has full access to the sub-site.
I can view the properties fine.

When I try to upload a document I get the access denied error message if some of the meta data properties are marked "required". The document is still uploaded. I also get the same error when I try to edit an item in a list.

I can view/edit the properties in Data sheet view fine. The libraries on the existing sites work fine. It only seems to be an issue on new sub-sites.

It almost seems like a permission problem generating the property edit forms. There is nothing in the SP log files.

Disable edit after updating status to "completed"

Currently we have a list which items can be edited by two SPgroups.  However, the customer would like to "lock" the individual list item after it is marked as "completed" from one or both of the SPgroups.  The list item should be displayable however not editable.

Any suggestions as to how this can be done ... I have looked at workflows, target audiences, and javascripting, however, my investigation has been fruitless.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit access denied on publishing site - content db upgrade

There was a problem a while back in MOSS that caused users with proper rights to get access denied messages when attempting to edit or create items... something to do with the PermMask field needing the RenderXMLUsingPattern attribute to be set to true.

In a publishing site that was content db upgraded to 2010, I'm seeing the same issue, but PermMask is fine.  The problem seems to be with the "Publishing Site with Workflow" site template, because if I create a new subsite in this collection and give a content management user group any level of rights to it, including full control, the error persists in the new subsite.  However, if I create a vanilla team site in the collection, there's no issue.  The site collection has also been backed up and restored in a test environment to isolate any farm- or server-related issues.  Edit: both environments are also patched to August CU.

Anyone find a way around this without resorting to demolition?

In the logs, I'm seeing the following lines (user actually has 0x7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF):

PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00010000, have 0x00000000
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x4000000000000000, have 0xB008431061

Sharepoint 2010 - Lists not displaying Edit (Link to item) for Users with Edit Only access

Hi

I am using Sharepoint 2010.  I have several lists whose view includes the column "Edit (Link to Item)" in the default view.  I am the site admin so when I view the list the "Edit" column appears with the small "paper and pencil" icon and it works when clicked.

I needed some users to only be able to view and edit existing items (not add or delete).  So I have created a site level permissions that I copied from "Read" and only checked the "Edit Items  -  Edit items in lists, edit documents in document libraries, and customize Web Part Pages in document libraries" under Lists.

This new permission level does allow users to see the edit menu item on the standard "Title" hyperlink dropdown, but in the"Edit" column there isn't an icon or any clickable link to edit in the column.  Only from the menu.  Its as if the icon won't appear if I don't give them Add capability which is what I don't want.

 Thanks for any tips,

VA
