Size specified for a binding was too small, resulting in one or more

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have changed my source data warehouse by increasing some column widths.  Now when I try to deploy the cube I get:

Warning 1 Errors in the back-end database access module. The size specified for a binding was too small, resulting in one or more column values being truncated.

How do I fix this?  I have tried going into the DSV and making sure things were right.  I have gone into the dimensions and can't find anything to change.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

Maybe you can help.  The cube will not process, but all dimensions do process successfully.

I have performed the following to resolve this issue with no luck, and frankly this is a ridiculous generic error with no indication what the issue is.

I have tried bids helper and it made one correction to a dimension/attribute length.

I have refreshed the DSV to no avail.

I have then reprocessed all dimensions (60+) without error. then processing the cube fails.

I have then deleted the partitions and rebuilt them and their aggregations, no luck.

Binding too small error

"Errors in the back-end database access module. The size specified for a binding was too small, resulting in one or more column values being truncated."

OK.  I'm stumped.

I already tried refreshing the data source view, I refreshed the cube (both times selecting refresh from the context menu).  BIDS said there were no changes.  There have been no changes.

What am I supposed to be looking for?  There are five fact tables and nine dimensions.  Is SSAS unhappy with a link between the tables?

I'm using build 8.0.50215.44 (Beta2.050215-4400), wizard generated cubes and dimensions.

"Target string size is too small to represent the XML instance"

This is a tough error....

The situation:  we are trying to manage Stored Procedures (ALTER, CREATE, DROP statements) on one of our SQL2005 servers and this error spews out:

"Target string size is too small to represent the XML instance"

Now this script i wrote (simple alter statement adding a column) works on 4 other versions of SQL 2005, but when i try a certain server, i get that error

Searching Google, Yahoo, and MSN, all three point to one single instance of this error, right here on Don Keily's blog

http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/donkiely/archive/2005/10/20.aspx

 and unfortunately... no solution  :(

Maybe in the 3 months since that post, someone might have run across that and knows how to fix?

Binding Nested Listviews in MVC ViewPage

I am a longtime .NET developer but for big applications and services.  This is my first asp.net project and I have chosen MVC.   I have a need for nesting a ListView within a ListView.  In this simple catalog app, I have EF 4 Entities that are Categories, SubCategories, ItemTypes, and Items.

My goal is to display a 5 column layout of SubCategories with their ItemTypes below them in a ViewPage.  I did just fine with it done out in C# as server directives such as:

    var subcats = Model.SubCategory.ToArray();
    var nrSubCats = subcats.Count();
    var rows = (nrSubCats/5) + (((nrSubCats % 5) > 0) ? 1 : 0);
    for (var row = 0; row < rows; row++)
    { %>
        <div style="width: 100%; float: left; clear: right;">
        <%
        var start = row * 5;
        for (var i = start; (i < start + 5) && (i < nrSubCats); i++)
        {
        var subcat = subcats[i];
        %>
            <div style="float: left; clear: right; width: 20%; margin-left: 5;">
                <h2> <%:subcat.Name%></h2>
                <ul>
                    <%
                    foreach (var its in subcat.ItemType)
                    {%>
                        <li>
                            <%:Html.

Reduce Image Size

Detect Browser Screen Size??

Hi Everyone,  I need to detect the size of the user's screen for mobile devices (especially the BlackBerry). I've read a lot of pages that seem to refer me to the Request.Browser object, but I'm finding that this object doesn't have the correct values. For example, I have a BlackBerry and when I use the Request.Browser to get the screen size, it tells me it is 640x480. Well, I know it's not that big since an image of 300px wide just barely fits. Also, when I run on my desktop browser, it also says my screen is 640x480. I can assure you, it is not 640x480! ha!

  How does anyone reliably get the browser's screen size?? Do I have to revert to some kind of JavaScript? If so, where can I read more about it? Will it be any more reliable? Someone must have an idea about this. Thanks in advance!!
