Mapping custom values and columns to destination table **Newb question**

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am copying data from one source to destination SQL CE table using the data flow task. I have two extra requirements which I am not sure how to achieve.

1.)  One source column needs to be mapped to two destination columns. In the column mapping dropdown the column name disappears after mapping it to one destination column.

2) some custom values for columns need to be added, which are not present in source. For e.g. a default value for some destination columns which is not present.

Any pointers would be extremely appreciated. Thanks,

Data Flows in SSIS - Mapping Multiple source tables to Destination table **Newb question**

Hi I am new to SSIS and had a basic question. I have around 30+ tables in a db that needs to be migrated to a newer schema in the DB. The data flow task seems to be ideally suited for my requirement. My question is do I need to create 30+ different data flow tasks for this which will get executed one after the other or is there a better way to migrate large number of tables. Also how are referential constraints taken care of during such migration. Thanks and Regards, Ganesh Ranganathan

SSIS Custom Destination Component colum mapping issue

Hi ,

I am facing the below issue.

I am developed a custom destination component.I have custom UI also to set some properties.

Once i save the component and do the mapping in the Show Advance Editor Colum Mapping.This is working fine.

The problem starts Next.If I edit the component and do some changes  and say Ok ,In the output colum mapping all the mappings which i have already been set is getting removed.Then again i have to remap it.Ho to keep the existing mapping if we edit the component?

need help to solve this issue.

display / insert values by comparing 2 columns of a table

i have a table which has the following columns

A_ID, A_Value,A_Date,B_ID,B_Value_B_Date

i have another table as follows

A_ID,B_ID,A_Value,B_Value, Date

this is to be done

* if A_date and B date are equal, one record shoould be entered to the TABLE 02. the values should be A_ID,B_ID,A_Value_B_Value and A_Date (since the date is equal, no problem; even can insert B_Date instead of A_Date)

* if A_Date and B_Date are different, then the following should happen

insert one record to TABLE02 as A_ID,B_ID, A_Value, 0 , A_Date

insert another record to TABLE02 as A_ID,B_ID, 0 , B_Value, B_Date

(As you can see, when the date differs we enter the single record of Table 01 into 2 recoerds in table 02. the Value column and Date column are related in such a way that when A's date is entered, the value for B should be 0 and vise versa..)

i tried having a UDF but in halfway remembered that we cannot include INSERTS in UDFs..

can anyone please explain me how can i solve this problem ??

thanks in advance

Custom Columns - Fill values based on value selected in a lookup column

I am working with Sharepoint 2007. I have a list of 130 buildings located in six different cities and three different provinces. I imported this list from an Excel spreadsheet. I also have a document library that contains various files associated with these buildings. I've added a custom column to the document library that contains a lookup field to the name of each building. I also have two additional custom columns that have the city and province. What I would like to accomplish is to have the city and province columns automatically be set based on the name of the building selected, such that these values are taken from the same row of this list as the building name.

Hopefully my question makes sense.

Thank you, James

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

DataGrid: Tailor Your DataGrid Apps Using Table Style and Custom Column Style Objects

One of the most enduring challenges in writing user interfaces is figuring out how to display large amounts of data efficiently and intuitively without bewildering the user. The problem becomes particularly thorny when the interface must reflect hierarchical relationships within the data that the user needs to modify. The Windows Forms DataGrid control gives developers a powerful and flexible tool to meet this challenge. This article explains its basic operations and shows how to extend the DataGrid to display columns of data in an application-appropriate manner.

How to deal with NULL values in a SQL table

 Hi all

In order to add/update/delete data from a table I build 2 classes: 1 class containing all the table fields and another class with methods to add/insert/update/delete records. I am learning how to avoid errors when your table must use SQL NULL values. One error is when I call my UPDATE method (see below):

  public void UpdateItem(OcItemConstraintDetails item)
  SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
  SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("ItemConstraints_Update", con);
  cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;

  cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@itemConstraintId", SqlDbType.Int, 4));
  cmd.Parameters["@itemConstraintId"].Value = item.ItemConstraintId;

  cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@path", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 150));
  cmd.Parameters["@path"].Value = item.Path;

if you watch the SQL profiler trace you will see that I am passing a value of 'default' ;so that causes me problems.

exec ItemConstraints_Update @itemConstraintId=1,@path=default

With that said, what are the best practices when your SQL table accepts NULL values and when:
- you are passing an empty value to your stored procedure;

Entity Data Model and database view returning the same columns as there are in a table

When adding a stored procedure into the Entity Data Model I can select whether the procedure returns a scalar, a (new) complex type or one of the entity types I already defined.

How do I do something similar for a view?

I mean assuming I have a view like this

CREATE VIEW FilteredFoos as SELECT Foo.* FROM Foo join ... WHERE ...

(that is a view that implements some involved filtering, but returns all columns from one table) how do I add it to the project so that I can use the entity set, but get the Foo objects, not some new FilteredFoo objects.

var foos = myDB.FilteredFoos.Include("Bar").ToList();

foreach (Foo foo in foos) { ...

How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View

I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

So here is a link to my graphic example uploaded to my blog area: http://lindachapman.blogspot.com/  or just the image here: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_aB01ue__NvQ/TGL42MOvrGI/AAAAAAAAAA4/c3xP4uCy4BU/s1600/Scrolling.png

Model Binding the values in an HTML Table back to Controller / Model

Currently, I am working with ASP.NET MVC1 and am still learning about Model Binding and how values from a View are passed back to the Controller / Model. Specifically, I want take an existing Model, create a Table and populate the Rows of the Table, allow the user to edit some fields and pass it back.

In my example, I have a Class called "Ingredient" which has 4 public accessors:  Name, Barcode, Amount, and Unit

<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<IEnumerable<MvcACE.DomainModel.Entities.Ingredient>>" %>

<% using (Html.BeginForm("SubmitOrder","MyController"))
{ %>

<% if (Model != null)
foreach (var item in Model)
{ %>
<td><%= Html.Encode(item.Name)%></td>
<td><%= Html.Encode(item.Barcode)%></

How do you create a custom BDC data field that allows for multiple selected values?

I need help creating a custom data field using the BDC column as a base.  We need to allow for multiple selected values instead of just a single one.  I can't find anything on the net which shows how to do this.

Implementing a custom Membership Provider vs. using aspnet_Profile table - Which should I do?

I wanted to expand the amount of information that is associated with each user(MembershipUser) in the ASPNETDB.MDF database file. Adding columns like FirstName, LastName, etc. So I began implementing my own custom Membership Provider. I created a derived MembershipUser class with the extra private variables that I wanted each MembershipUser record to store. Its basically done. Almost after I did this I stumbled across the columns in the ASPNETDB.MDF->aspnet_Profile table called "PropertyNames" and "PropertyValuesString".  Could I have simply used these two columns to accomplish what I was attempting to do or are these columns for global application configuration settings?

Is the aspnet_Profile table purpose to store expanded/related information about users such as personal information? Or is it for something else? Thanks.

Application to Constantly query Table Values and Refresh with most recent value

Hello, I must apologize in advance because I am not sure if this is the correct place for this question. I am looking for ideas on how to build an application that in the most basic sense contains a field with the most current data from a table in a SQL Server database (this would be based off of a datetime timestamp in the table). I am new to this kind of problem and am unsure where to start looking for solution ideas. The table value updates variably and could possibly update every second to every hour. I would like to design an application that would be lightweight to both the server and the user's machine. This would take the place of an unneeded report on my Reporting Services server. Any and all suggestions would be welcome because I am not sure of options I even have on this. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration, Matt
